incoming text messages are all showing up sent 5-10 minutes BEFORE the time it was actually sent so it totally ruins convos on my moment.. Ive tried setting the time and using 'automatic' network time.. Someone please tell me how to fix this its driving me insane as I always have to scroll back up and it ruins conversation continuity.

Try downloading "Handcent SMS" from the market. If there is still a delay I would contact Sprint. I haven't had this problem before.

I use handcent SMS and it has to be the service. I work in a fringe area and sometimes my texts come to me from 6 hours in the future. but then I do live in the central time zone which is GMT-6:00hrs. I have even tried manually setting and running the clock on my phone, that didn't help either.

Hopefully it will get fixed.

there is no delay it just shows the wrong time on incoming messages and therefore the phone arranges the messages incorrectly.. its for ANYONE who text messages me no matter what network they are on. I am in a fairly major market. (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

it just randomly started doing this after it was fine the first couple weeks I had the phone.

it would make sense the text is received on the phone already with a time stamp assigned by the carrier? if this is the case, it is the tower/carrier assigning the wrong time stamp to the text?

i haven't had this issue with my moment, but ive been with sprint for a while and i know with previous phones, sometimes when i didn't have a signal, the text would come in with the wrong time stamp. i only knew the time stamp was wrong from checkin with friends when they had sent the text.

Like you, I thought Hand. was great. Then, I tried to attach a picture to a message and got a message that the file was too big. I got curious and tried attaching a # of pics and in every instance, the same message appeared. While the stock messaging program handled my pics just fine! I uninstalled Hand. and haven't looked back. If you don't send pics via messages though, you should be fine.

Ah. thanks for that. i don't do it often, but it's good to know to switch back to stock when I need to do that.

its it all text messages that you receive, or is it random? I have not noticed this at all, and looking back threw my text messages i show no issues with the time stamp....hmm odd

Mine are random and only at work. Like I said I work in a fringe area and I roam about as much as I am on my home network. Out of 5 messages today, only 1 came in with a bad time stamp.

I had the same problem. In fact I think another person and I discussed it in another thread... anyways, handcent was the fix that we came to also:)

I get the same message. However, along with that popup is the question "would you like handcent to automatically resize this picture?" <-or something to that effect
hit yes...
It resizes the pic and sends it just fine.;)

100% of my messages I get... Im trying handcent now.... hope it works..

Its getting worse by the day... Im up to an 11 minute gap in the time stamps... where as it was only 3-5 minutes when I posted this message.. again there is NO "Delay" sorry if I worded that wrong, it just DISPLAYS all my messages out of order with incorrect time stamps for RECEIVED messages..

Hope handcent works its so annoying scrolling up trying to figure out the order of messages now when im having a long conversation.

nm figured that part out. Is there any way for the 'messaging' program to be totally disabled so it stops getting messages?

and the timestamps are still wrong.... but at least messages are displayed in the right order now
you are want the stock messaging app disabled and only use handcent?

ive read people say handcent uses the stock messaging app for some of its features, but if you have root on your phone, you could experiment removing some of the messaging apk files and see if handcent still works. if the problem is very frustrating, it might be worth experimenting. make sure to backup any file before you remove it, in case it makes things worse!

Open the stock messaging app then >menu>settings>auto-retrieve (uncheck) AND Notifications (uncheck).
I'm not sure if unchecking auto-retrieve is necessary, but I did it and there haven't been any ill consequences that I can tell.

I just bought my phone 3 days ago and I noticed the problem right away that my received text messages are time stamped 3-4 min before the time i actually get them. I spent an hour on the phone with Sprint tech support and sprint advanced tech support and none of them had heard of the issue. They told me it must be a device issue. I took it to the store and they exchanged the phone with a brand new one.

I noticed it was still happening on the new phone i got. After being on the phone with tech support again, they referred me to Samsung, Samsung said it has nothing to do with them because they don't make the software on the phone and told me to call Google about their android system. Google doesn't take tech support calls for this and I can't talk to anyone there. Now I'm slightly pissed.

I have made some observations on this problem....

It doesn't do this when the texts are between 2 Sprint phones. Because the store tech tested it and called me crazy until I texted someone with an AT&T phone right infront of them and they saw it first hand. I also tried it at a Verizion store using a Droid floor model and the problem did not appear on the droid phone but it did on mine. So, unless the Verizion phone is using a different version of Android or doesn't have the updates mentioned above, I have to believe this problem lies squarely on Sprint's network. Hope this helps everyone and I will be canceling my plan within my 30 days because I'm not sticking with this network if this crap is already happening. Verizion...here I Come.

Wow, I thought I was the only one with this problem. I have had the Sprint Hero since december and noticed this problem about 2 weeks from purchase. My problem is I travel quite a a bit and my texts are a mess when I pass time zones. I live on the eastern time zone. So when I travel all texts show up with the time stamp of that time zone. Meaning they are hours off out of order. When I am at home, I get texts out of order anywhere from 1 min-30min. This is not carrier specific. This problem is not carrier specific. My buddy has a Samsung Moment and the time stamps from him are wrong about 10-20% of the time. He is not currently having any problems. I have had issues with ATT and Verizon members too. I have talked to sprint support and advance support which were of no help. After several calls they told me to take it to a sprint store. I will say that I am using the stock SMS and I have not rooted my phone.

i have this problem too. and i think handcent sucks. i downloaded something called smstimefix and it seems to work. its on the htc market. there is also a solution on the htc website if you just search "time stamp fix" it comes up. im still trying to figure out how to install it to my phone though... i talked to my provider and the tech support at htc.. its a problem with t-mobile. the system didnt get switched over properly so everyone who doesnt have a t-moble one, pretty much gets screwed with this time stamp...
