Well, it it isn't going to be using your number unless you already use Google Voice, but it is possible to get it working on the Transformer as a VOIP service.

If you have Sprint you can use google voice with your cell # to do txt. I @#$&ing heart it. If not... Might be up a creek.

Why would you wanna use the tf for calls and text? You gunna be like my buddy that SERIOUSLY got an ipad on at &t TO USE AS A PHONE! We make fun of him as he carries the damn thing all over like a phone. Very funny.

Anyway...I was just wondering. I'll always have my phone on me...always. Tablet...not so much.

Just for when I am at home I can just leave my incredible in the charger and take calls and texts from my transformer instead of carrying two android devices around the house with me.

It isn't that important it would just make life a little easier...

Cordless phones, connected via bluetooth to your cellphone. Then you can leave the phones all over the house and receive/make calls. I got this set for $65 on woot.com a while back. Works GREAT.

Also, you could try skype on the tablet to make calls.

Bluetooth cordless phones...that's pretty friggin cool. Never seen that.

I was just going to recommend a bluetooth headset. A decent one will easily be able to reach all over the house unless you live in a mansion...

Thanks but I already have a seimens telephone set that works great... when I was mainly talking about texting and that is one thing that it can't do... I was just trying to find something that allowed people to use my current number to text me on my transformer so i don't have to give everyone another number to text to.

I plan on using the Transformer+Dock as a netbook kind of thing to compliment my my PC rig. The like 5x5 block section of my city is covered in Wi-Fi by the Uni, so it makes it nice, easy, and convenient to do research/write papers no matter where I am. Plus, the 16 hour battery life is a major plus. I could go throughout an entire day almost with it on the entire time and I wouldn't have to worry about battery life. I can't say that about similar priced laptops.

Based on what I've read and everything , I only plan on writing my first drafts on the TF, and then transferring them over to my desktop. Sometimes, I just want to write part of my paper at the comfort of my bed instead of glued to the chair in front of my monitor.

Also, I am seriously considering putting a few textbooks/ required ebooks on the transformer. Reading ebooks on my desktop is weird, and reading them on my ipod touch is too small. With the TF, it actually feels somewhat natural and readable.

I'd like this very much too... When I'm sitting in the sofa, my HTC mostly is on the table or upstairs in the bedroom.

I have such good reception in my house... that I might as well use a stone as a cell phone. So, having the ability to send and recieve txt through google voice is essential. Being able to not have to pick up my phone to reply is great, just open voice on my tf then go back to whatever else I was doing.

NetTalk - calls

Both are free, both work through wifi, both will give you your own numbers. Life savers for people with no coverage and people, like me, who are out of the country.

Textplus app says it does that. Haven't tried it yet though, and it uses a DIFFERENT number than your phone.

OK, for text messages that is super easy. Use DeskSMS, that is an app that can forward your texts to and from your cell. It can do GTalk, Browser, Email, and TabletSMS. If you use a tablet download the tabletsms app on your tablet and desksms on your phone and bam you send/receive texts via your phone so it always shows up exactly as if you sent it from the phone [and yes your replies even show up on phone just like they would]. You can also use GTalk on a computer [or phone] to do the same thing I love that at my job.

All it requires is that both your phone and tablet have a working data connection of any kind [yes even using bluetooth tether in jellybean works fine]. This also applies if you say leave your phone at home cause you forgot it on the charger. As long as both devices have a network connection anywhere that allows internet access you will have access to get and send your texts through your phone.

DeskSMS does charge like a whole $5 - $7 a year and it does give a full 2 week free trial [unhampered]. Also, even has a home screen widget so you can easily toggle how it handles your messages [do you want it to send to GTalk and your email and the browser extension or do you just want one or a combo of those? It gives a toggle for each and you turn on and off each of the 3 types of routing at will.
