Hi there.

Does anyone knows how to remove or change an gmail account on this phone?
I'm receiveing emails and i wanted to stop it...

TIA

Hi,

I use the K9 app for my email (multiple accounts) but I can't stop Gmail app running in the background. I use task killer but it keeps popping up.

I have turned off notifications but it still runs in the background and uses valuable memory until Task Killer gets its.

Is there any way of removing it without going down the 'root' route?

The only thing i can think of is to reset / format the phone and then when your done just do not setup the gmail account - If anyone else knows of a better way then you can probably follow that but i suppose this would be the last resort -

  1. From the Home screen, tap the applications bar.
  2. Tap Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
  3. Scroll down and tap Gmail.
  4. Tap Clear data.
  5. Press the Back key.
  6. Scroll down and tap Google Apps.
  7. Tap Clear data
It works real fast, then set uop a new one if you like

This worked for me. HTC HD Desire.

1. Tap Gmail app - gives list of Gmail accounts on the phone. "Add account" button at the bottom - don't touch this!

2. Tap "Menu" then "Account settings"

3. Tap account to be removed. A "Data and synchronization" page comes up with "Remove account" at the bottom of the page

4. Tap "Remove account" and there it is gone!

Actually, you can erase and register new or another Gmail account, but you have to do a Factory Reset. But if you do this step, you can erase almost anything on your phone, like contacts, photos, messages etc.

I have a simple tutorial how to remove your GMail account on Android Market without doing Factory reset. OK, follow this step :

1. Download Root Explorer from Android Market
2. Explore to /data/system/ and find this file : accounts.db
3. Delete that file (accounts.db)
4. Reboot your Android device.
5. Walla

Help,
I have the galaxy S and it doesn't have Google Apps to clear.
Instead, I have:
Google backup transport, Google calender sync, google contacts sync, google partner set up, google search and google service framework.
I cleared them all and it didn't help.
I can't delete the account even that I have a new one.

There is not an item called 'Google Apps' I think the other user meant to find any Google related apps and clear the data in them.

The other drastic thing you can do is a factory reset or software repair but I don't know what Samsung give you as options for this. It may be worth asking over on the Galaxy S forum for more specific instructions.

I'm late to the party, but this worked for me on my Droid Inc. When I open Gmail now on my phone I only have my new email account that I created. Thx!

Hi,

I've tried this: 1. Settings
2. Accounts and sync
3. Tap on your account
4. Tap Remove account

It says This account can't be removed.

So I wanted to try to reset factory settings. But I can't do that without logging in to my old gmail account, which is the problem in the first place.

I have tried to get a new password from google, but it's been ages since I used the address, so I don't remember anything, password, secret questions, whatsoever.

Grateful for help.

To delete a Google account from your phone:
  1. From the Home screen, tap the applications bar.
  2. Tap Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
  3. Scroll down and tap Gmail.
  4. Tap Clear data.
  5. Press the Back key.
  6. Scroll down and tap Google Apps.
  7. Tap Clear data.
These steps used to remove the gmail account only from the phone right. By following the steps it will not close my gmail account permanently?

To delete a Google account from your phone:
From the Home screen, tap the applications bar.
Tap Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
Scroll down and tap Gmail.
Tap Clear data.
Press the Back key.
Scroll down and tap Google Apps.
