Welcome to the "Why I hate the new Gingerbread OTA" thread (All similar will be merged into here)

Can someone merge all these 'Gingerbread sucks' threads into one so that everyone who doesn't like white backgrounds can have one place to talk about their grief.

Yes, I can so...

Welcome to the "Why I hate the new Gingerbread OTA" thread. Some love change, some hate it, or at least parts of it. Either way to keeps some things simple and clean in the Atrix area, all threads about disliking the new GB update will go in here. It will also act as a way for people who have not updated to see if they really want to.

By the way, you cannot return to Froyo once you flash Gingerbread. If you already did, and hate it, post here to let other know.

Just switched to QuickPic https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&feature=related_apps

Liking it a lot so far. Nice and clean, and you can move pics to different folders from within the app.

I have to say, though, it always disappoints me to have to download a replacement to do what the stock app should do in the first place.

I like QuickPic too but I'm upset that it can't connect to my Picasa galleries.

For that reason, I also tried JustPictures https://market.android.com/details?id=com.justpictures. It's not as fast as QuickPic but you can add your Picasa account.

Downloading Gallery 3D now to try that out.

In the new Gallery, why did they decide to show your oldest photos shuffled as the background. It will never change if they always use the oldest. At least if they used the newest, then it would change every time a new photo was on your device.

That's the beauty of Android though. If you don't like a stock app, you can easily replace it on the market, unlike some other OS where you are stuck with whatever is given to you ;)

Oh, I agree completely. I love that I can change whatever I want. I'm just saying that I shouldn't have to do so just to achieve the most basic functionality. It'd be like going into your contacts list, and just getting a long list of phone numbers without names. Android/Motorola wouldn't dream of doing something like that, so it baffles me that they did this to the gallery.

I couldn't care less about colors, themes, docks, etc. as those are all customizable and I don't mind the small amount of time it takes to "have it my way" (as the King would say)...

The one thing I do hate is that the little magnified text bubble that used to appear when editing an email or text has gone away and I am at a loss on how to get it back. I thought that maybe it would come back when I installed the latest Swype beta but, sadly, no luck.

Hmmm..I hate the blue and white theme. Why no black theme? Seriously, who at Motorola decided to get rid of badass black theme and make it these colors?

I agree about the nice black theme, but from what I hear, it can look however we want it to. I didn't like the music player either, at first. But when I saw the lyrics scrolling as the music was playing, I was sold. I'm pretty new to this android stuff, so that was pretty cool to me.

Anyone notice in change in gps behavior? I used to leave gps checked, and it would activate when something needed it, then turn off when not used. Now it just stays on (gps icon in notifation bar.) Didn't notice this and battery ended up being drained. Now I have to manually turn the gps on/off when I want to use.

For me its the opposite. I leave it on now and it only activates when using GPS or maps. Before the icon would stay on until I turned it off.

Where did you hear that? Without rooting, the best you can get are themes for certain apps. Hardly a reasonable work around. My old LG Dare would let me choose between white or black...why not a high end Android device? It's just pathetic. Also, why are we stuck with the launcher in that position. I'd like three items in the dock with the launcher in the middle...like it should be.

hehe...that's just messed up.

Maybe I'll try a factory reset. Haven't needed to that in a while and hate to lose all my stuff, but It's a bit annoying.

Or, maybe I'll give tasker another go. Originally wanted it for just this purpose but when I found the gps would turn on/off as needed, decided I didn't really need it.

Oh, well...sigh.

Hey now! My gallery whining got merged, but I don't hate the new GB OTA. I love it to pieces except the gallery thing. If it were a physical thing, I would snuggle it and let it sleep on my pillow. Just wanted to clarify that. :D
haha, well it doesn't have to be GB as a whole but you hate something ABOUT GB OTA ;)

*thinks* I can't picture it, lol. Screen shot? :)

o_O I hope Evil is the only one that sees this with the GPS.

But, I find that it does not find new pictures (Say from the camera or a screenshot) until the media card is rescanned. Either by un-mounting, re-mounting it, or rebooting the phone.

Try SDRescan on the market. Free, and it saves you the hassle of rebooting your phone for it to find new images. :)

Does it scan music media as well?

From the market page:

"A small tool that invokes the android media scanner to rescanning the SD card for new media files."

I would assume that, by that, it triggers the built in re-scan and would pick up on everything (Pics, music, vids...). My concern with this is, whenever I've tried something like this, It's re-indexed the media and broken all the links to my MANY custom ringtones.

Well, I can tell you I've used it for...probably 6 months now...with no issues, beyond that it can sometimes take a minute or two to go through the process. And that's not really a problem so much as it's me being impatient.

I should add that I also have many custom ringtones, and this has never had any affect on those. My understanding of the app is that it's updating the index, not changing the locations of files or anything of that nature.

How dare it not re-scan GB's of data on a removable media card in mere Micro-Seconds!!:eek:

We must all rate this app 1 star!!! :D:p:D

Multitasking FTW! ;)

Just download. Hopefully it picks up the 5GB of song I threw on there, lol.

It's in this thread. A few posts up states that there are a number of launcher apps that allow you to customize. I haven't delved too deeply yet but I'm sure I'll fine something. I see what you are saying though, that should be a simple task as going into "settings" and changing what you like.
