Thinking of switching to palm pre

I haven't been happy with my eris.I've had it since it was released. Verizon replaced the battery once and the phone.Still not satisfied with the battery life and its sluggish even with the replacement phone with minimal apps installed. Tried all the battery suggestions and app management suggestions. I think it could be a good phone once they fix the problems because i think its all software related when it comes to battery life.

My problem is I don't feel like waiting for the patches. I was thinking of going with the palm pre plus. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated and does anybody have experience with palm pre and how it would compare to the eris.

I dunno. You'd be paying more for a lesser phone. 3.2 camera, a PalmOS I've never used, and an awkward design.

Have you tried switching VZW stores? Maybe yours sucks and another one may help? I know the one near my house has a bunch of imbeciles working there that don't want to help you at all. So now I call the one 30 mins. away but get a ton of respect and moves made on my problems.

VZW replaced the eris. The store is helpful and never had a problem with them. I tried out the palm pre.Does seem more responsive and it doesn't seem awkward to me. Don't really need a more powerful camera when it comes to cell phones, don't use it for my main camera.

Well bud, hate to break it to you but, if think battery life suffers on the Eris, go ahead and get the pre. You'll think the Eris is super-droid after you use the pre for a few days.

Palm is predicted to go under soon. I won't be surprised if it's right after the Eris gets 2.1. So soon.

Web Os is pretty nice. I have a coworker with a pre and I enjoy playing with it. As nice as Web Os is though it can't fix the shortcomings of the Pre's design. The keyboard is horrendous and almost impossible to type on and I say this as a girl with small hands. The real problem for me was the complete lack of apps in the market. I hope this picks up with Verizon having a Web Os phone, but it will have to be a major pick up.

I don't expect Palm to go under anytime soon,specially if sales are somewhat good at Verizon. I have used Webos in the past for testing and so forth and I can tell you that it has a lot of potential. The OS is snapy and very responsive. The design of the Pre is weird but comfortable enough on the hand and Megapixels on a phone camera don't make much of a difference...is not like you will be printing posters from those shots . The Palm Pre falls short on battery life (which is one of the problems your complaining about), the built materials (Pre only) and the fact that you cannot upgrade your memory like you can on the Eris. Hope this helps on your decision. If I was on your position I would keep the Eris or get the Nexus One when it comes out. Good luck!!!

its weird because a lot of people in the forums bash the sense ui for being slow and laggy...the whole reason i bought the eris was for the sense ui...a few weeks ago i decided to be adventurous and shut it off and see what i could make out of the normal home screen rather than with the sense ui and tried to use different market widgets and clocks and so on and it was just not the same...the weather app got 5 stars and reviews were raving about its widget but when i used it it was a joke compared to the sense ui weather widget imo. i've used the palm pre and webos is definitely unique...you can listen to music and do other things at the same time...well with the sense ui i can multitask too going from weather to music to favorites etc. i definitely admit that at times my phone gets laggy but i mean the updates coming up are just driving me crazy thinking about the other oppertunities this phone might have. and i have to admit the loosely put together plasticky pre just doesn't feel as sturdy as the eris either...i would definitely pick the eris anyday...thats just my opinion though.

WebOS is gorgeous. Its method of using cards to multitask works very well. The OS itself is stable and yes, a bit smoother than Android- especially with SenseUI. For the record- I have a Pre, a BB, a Hero, a Droid, and an iPhone.

The battery life on the Pre is probably the worst of all of these. The build quality is poor compared to all of the others. The plastic screen doesnt feel as nice as the glass of the iPhone or the Androids. The applications are not as vast or varied for the Pre, although that is improving. For me-- android is the winner amongst all of these for OS overall (iPhone is smooth but too rigid, Pre is nice but not enough apps yet). As for battery which seems to be your biggest complaint, only BB will get you better battery life than your Eris.

Great post, and it all bears out with our family's experiences with the Blackberries, iPhone and two androids (one Eris and one Droid).

My place of employment has 160+ cell phones that I am responsible for. The Hero is the one I use, it replaced the Pre- I have a few users still on Blackberries. ATT is trying to get our contract so I have a test iPhone on my desk. The Droid is my wifes

its a proven fact that HTC isnt the best in OS add-on performance.
i use to have windows mobile and it was well known that htc`s add on (touch flo 3d is what it is on windows mobile) effected your phones performance negatively. with winmo it was WAY worst though!

Echo the comments others have made, my GF has a Sprint Pre... WebOS is slick and fun to play with. The keyboard is almost impossible for me to type on. The upper rows of keys especially, since they are so close to the edge of the screen when it's opened. And the hard plastic housing breaks easily, the corner of hers was cracked after a fall in it's protective suede case.

I do like it. Not enough to trade in my Eris though.

Wife just got the VZW Pre - its great (for her) its Ui is great like an iphone very intuitive and the hardkeyboard is good better than moto droid - worse than a BB. Phone is fast and responsive (unlike Eris) but overall the biggest weakness is as I see it - very few apps- no really - very few....

If you just want a phone with good internet then the pre is for you

I didn't really want to, but I ended up at the verizon store for about 45 minutes today to check out the pre plus. webOS was smooth. Liked the cards too. In my short time with the pre, liked pretty much everything about the OS. The keypad was acceptable, however I really didn't care for little lip that surrounds the keys. Touch screen was very responsive. That's about it.

The 2 pre's they had were not plugged in. In the time I spent with the phone, the battery went from 82 down to 43. That is is a major deal breaker. Both phones, the slider wobbled. I really dislike 2 piece phones or sliders in general. I was hoping the pre would change my mind but all it did was reinforce my opinion that sliders in general aren't that good.

Lots of plastic used in this phone. Build quality seems average at best.

The in call volume was barely acceptable to me. I made several calls. While the calls were acceptable, the clarity was just average. The phone seemed to lag ever so slightly in certain areas. It was never consistent either. I was hoping for better.

That side mounted charging port seems rather odd to me. I would have preferred it to be on the bottom. I wonder how long that little flap that covers the port will stay in place if you charge through that port.

Overall, less than impressed.

ive just come back to android from a palm pre.
the battery on the pre was terrible.
multitasking was brilliant, the card system works wonderfully. a very simple os, for non power users

However, the killer for me was the lack of modern applications. The pre is VERY backward in this respect.

If you think you might be a power-user, avoid the pre.

If you are just want to use it as a phone/txt/email this go for it. Just don't expect that battery to be any good at all. That said, you can buy a larger battery for it, but it increases the size of the phone.

Finally a post I can actually talk about....

I got my Palm Pre Plus last friday(so it's been a full week with it)

Pros:
I love the Cards
Internet is utterly amazing
Keyboard(i actually thought i was going to hate it but after 24 hours, i mastered it)
Webos has a kind of "sexy Look" to it
i love the way the messaging is set up and the email is cool

Cons:
Battery life is horrible....i do have to charge it quite a bit
I hate where the charger plug is because it's annoying when you are the phone
Camera(the pictures are real nice for a 3.0 cam however there are NO editing options but i hear this will change this month
Signal(it's weird...Places where my eris doesn't have signal it does and places where my eris did have signal, it doesn't
PITIFUL APP SELECTION...I've been spoiled by android and apple(for my ipod). Palm barely has a 1,000 apps and the selection they have is purely pitiful
Slight Lag when opening apps(3-5 seconds)

In my honest opinion, i love the way palm does things...However the signal quality is annoying me(though this has something to do with my area probably) and the app selection is real bad and the fact that the camera doesn't have editing options that even low end 1.3 megapiexel phones or lower have is disturbing(No black and white, no crop, no sepia...no anything) It's just take a picture and that's it

Android(eris) wins...barely just because it is slightly more advanced, it's app selection, and the build is better.

I haven't noticed any of the issues with my slider that some have complained about though. Seems fine to me

Get the Pre for simplistic and intuitive multi-tasking and if you want to root for the underdog to come out on top(Palm seems to be making some small steps so maybe they'll come out on top sooner or later)

Get the Eris(android) for fun, sleek, and customization. It's the 2nd best OS besides Apple from what I hear(just quoting what i read from online) and with each reinvention of the OS, it brings something new that the last generation didn't have

Tried the pre plus for a week. WebOS is real nice but the poor build quality, weak battery and slow os is making me return the pre today and going back to my Eris.

I like the Pre as well (girlfriend owns one) but the tweaker in me leans towards Android... I guess I just love to customize things
