Iss it just me that the apps show my tablet has 372MB Ram?

Well exactly what the title of the thread asks.. is it just me?

No its not just you. Only explanation (no proof) I've seen is that the rest is used by the display adapter. I do see two chips inside of 256 MB each so I expect there is 512 MB physical RAM inside.

I would like to get a stripped down version of the OEM or Tim's ROM and build it up one app at a time. I use Caffeinemark to benchmark and from first install I get around 1450-1500 score on the oem and about 1875 with Tim's. I have been able to tweak that with Android Assistant and a couple other apps to where I get around 2300 on the OEM and 2500 to my best (a one time only) 2875 on Tim's. Wish I knew what I did that time to make it permanent. Most benchmark programs are kind of subjective but still give you a peek into performance.

Yeap I use android booster that I use on my phone too and I get 243 Free ram. Well I do not mind it for now since I do not see any slow downs but I was just wondering Thnaks guys for the answers.

Faster figures are always better I know... but I am wondering what difference the figures you attained made in the real world? Did you see any appreciable improvement in any of the FT3's functions?

Mainly in streaming. I tested Netflix and Youtube again and Netfilx tho blue was smooth and HD Youtube was perfect. It also seems to help keep down some force close issues, like Android optimizer keeps giving me force close/wait when transitioning options. It is frustrating how the difference of problems apps on different devices, optimizer ran perfect on my much lesser Maylong 7".

Ok...well good to know. I hadn't tried youtube HD. The difference in performance is most likely directly proportional to the inverse of the money spent on firmware development

If this is true then I bet Netfilx is about to put pressure on MS to help perfect the Android app. After losing over 2.5 million customers, at 9.99 a pop and up, they need a new market.

There are tons of different boosters/control apps. Android assistant is pretty straight forward. it's first screen is an instant boost, The next is an app and process killer that remove the ones you want out of memory. The 3rd is a list of options to boost performance like adjusting volume so only media and system are on, battery savers like brightness, wifi on and off, gps or orientation on and off. It has a a startup task manager, an app install/uninstall.

Android optimizer is similar but has more features, except like I mentioned it has issues with the superpad/flytouch. Cachemate is a good one for keeping drive space free. It is simply clikc and go with a widget for the desktop. Appkiller is a good widget to have on the desktop as well. You just click and it clears memory, it's good to run before watching streaming video.

There are a couple of sites I use info from. One is ATZ, it has a tweak page that uses these apps and the best settings.

Battery Booster and Memory Booster are a good pair. I am still playing to find the best combo, hardly a guru, more like a groper, frantic in the dark!

I don't know about HBO GO but with Netfix the best you can hope for right now is smooth stream and blu-chromatic image.

I got curious last night and started to do a bit of research on this performance issue. First I installed a free benchmark program called "Quadrant Standard" which seems to be the one most recommended. I know that benchmarks are usually full of holes, but this one measures performance in comparison to other Android devices. I was dismayed to find that the FT3 came in next to last.

I then installed another free recommended benchmark called "Linpack" which measures only MFLOPS. The FT3 came in at around 9, while other tablets/phones were in the 200-250 range. Benchmark BS aside, these differences must have some significance.

I then read about a performance improvement paid app ($1.99) called "Benchmark Optimizer Diamond" which is highly recommended. Kills apps, defrags, etc. Android Market wouldn't let me download it to the FT3, but I was able to get it on my Android phone. When I have time, I'll copy it over to the FT3 and see what happens. It doesn't make any noticeable difference on my phone, but its performance is pretty good without any tweaking.

If any of you have time to play with this stuff, I'll be curious to know if you get any significantly better results than I did.

Try Adding Taskiller pro and installing the widget on you desktop. Run the widget just before running the HBO Go. Then run quick boost in AA see what that does.

Also Have you updated your market to the newest version? I can see AA in there.

Didn't Tim say something about a .ko missing from the kernel or something, so overclocking apps wouldn't work on these tablets?

Just noticed.. the overclocking in the diamond benchmark app was referring to the GPU not the CPU...

I hadn't read that but it could be, that would explain the tank in performance. Would that be just Tim's firmware or even the OEM then?

My problem is I am constantly reimaging and trying different combos of apps to boost performance the highest. Once I do I probably will decide the pad isn't good enough and spend more money I can't afford.

Seeing how poorly the FT3 stacks up against other tablets/phones performance-wise, I am probably going to get another tablet. I'm partial to the new Toshiba Thrive. I see that the price on a 16GB is $410 (no tax, free ship) on eBay. I'll bet it's $250 after Christmas.

Actually I think for the price it stacks up extremely well. You have to compare to class. If I had paid the $500+ for a Galaxy I would still be tearing it down and tweaking it to death. The Thrive looks nice, but I would wait until it has been out at least 6 or 7 months. Toshiba has always been, IMHE, fast to release then fix it later, like the sleep issue now. Give them time to get the kinks out. They always have solid builds, just takes time to unkink.

I agree about waiting a few months, although, from what I can see, the Thrive is a notebook with a touch screen and no keyboard. I think Toshiba wisely stuck to what it knows how to do. I played with it for an hour at the local Best Buy. Appears to run all the stuff I've had problems with on the FT3, but I didn't try Netflix because I didn't want to imput my account password. The salesman claims it runs Netflix perfectly, but BB sales people aren't always the most reliable.

Speaking of waiting, my sister bought an iPad1 35 days before the iPad2 was released. Apparently, if you bought it within a 30-day window, Apple would replace it with an iPad 2 at no extra cost. Becase she wasn't within the 30-day window, they offered her $100 trade-in discount on an iPad2. I don't think she will ever buy an Apple product again!
