I am trying to find an alternate compact qwerty keyboard option so I downloaded Better Keyboard. The problem with this is when I use it it does not recognize most of the words? If I try to type "this is a test" it says "Thus us a teat" LOL! Is there some sort of a setting that I am missing? Many others seem happy with this application.

I had a big problem with Better Keyboard and word recognition it also doesn't learn from what I've seen..
I tried shape writer and really wasn't for me, cool at first but not for me... I just downloaded anysoftkeyboard for free last night and so far I like it , seems to recognize more words , has a good keyboard my only grip is I really like the look of the blackkeyboard on Better Keyboard... Ohh well

My biggest complaint about using better keyboard on the Eris is that when you're using it for texts in portrait mode, the letter count appears inside the typing window and blocks what you're typing. Bummer.

And I use the word "I'll" a lot in texts but BK chooses the word ill instead.

And when I type "Haha" it selects either "bahamas" or "java". Haha. What do you in this case when it picks a different word? I mean, if you hit the space bar or the comma/period, the wrong word appears. I just experimented with quickly touching the track ball and that seemed to work pretty good but I know there must be a better technique.

Thanks,
ZM

I downloaded Better Keyboard because I wanted to use the compact QWERTY (like BB Pearl), but was utterly disappointed. The app is not intuitive at all when using the compact QWERTY, and 90% of what I type comes out wrong. The developer was nice enough to refund my money though, and Swype has saved me for now.

I hope that someone who was a BB Pearl fiend like I was, comes out with a compact QWERTY that is intuitive like the Pearl's. If that happens, then I mAy jump off the Swype bandwagon...

I just figured out the answer to my last question. I just dl'd the user dictionary app and then proceeded to add "haha" to my list of words via the menu button. Woohoo, no more bahamas or java! Apparently it only works when using better keyboard.
