Official HTC Inspire Gingerbread Update Rumor Thread

This thread today over at xda has an ATT guy saying it is being pushed out 10,000 phones at a time, not been cancelled, but pulled from the htc site for some reason no one knows.

HTC inspire gingerbread update - xda-developers

Isn't it interesting that different answers come from different reps, all from the same company. Today when I talked to the 4 reps, they all had the same info regarding GB being pulled, but they each had different answers regarding pushing me the side loading update.... one said it's not possible, only HTC support can do that, the other said only "data management" can do that, the other said "i haven't a clue what your talking about..." and the last one finally said "I know exactly what your asking for and I can take care of that for you!" and sure enough, 2 mins later I had the update on my phone. Sheesh.

For those of you with GB, how's battery life now?

haha no clue here, nothing to do at work today and kids are away at grandma's I've had the screen on like all day screwing around trying to get launcher pro working like it used to, constantly checking here and xda to see if I have the real prod release or if it really was cancelled and watching some bluths and some bundys on netflix.

My inspire's sweet little hole has been penetrated by a charger no less than 3 times today and battery monitor widget (whose stats I reset today) says my 100%->0% discharge time is estimated at 7 hours based on my past (today's) usage. (estimate used to be 22 hours normally)

I am noticing a couple buggy things. I really wonder if it did get cancelled. Among a bunch of forums I only see one report (on htc support forums, unanswered section) of someone getting this OTA and it's still not showing as a download on htc site. Apparently it only did for less than an hour.

one prob is launcher pro which used to work fine on froyo so I don't know if launcher pro guy did something in the past incompatible with something htc did recently with this rom or if htc did something recently incompatible with launcher pro.

3d app drawer is very laggy. I've turned off 3d, 2d moves fine unless you turn the phone and switch between landscape/portrait while in the app drawer, there's lots of artifacting, icons stacked on top of each other in one spot in the corner and about a 5 second delay before that corrects itself.

Other thing is in the dialer, when you open it up it normally shows you 3 or 4 recent calls above the dialpad, now it's just blank white and the "tap to see smart tips" above dialpad is missing too. If I dial one digit and then press the backspace to erase it, the recent calls show and "..smart tips" does too.

Edit: dialer problem seems to only happen from launcher pro, if I start dialer from sense launcher all is good.

Edit once more: think I fixed the dialer prob by just recreating the LP dock shortcut to it.

That's quite a number of bugs for an apparent final build. I'm just gonna wait for OTA and hope that they fixed the bugs. Even if it is mostly launcher pro.

For those of you with GB, how's battery life now?

i updated through GB last night manually. so i had the entire day at work to test my battery. in about 8 hours i got 1 phone call, maybe 45 texts, and i browsed the internet/twitter/pulse maybe about a good hour during lunch. and i left work with about 67% battery remaining. this is actually pretty typical for my phone i'm usually at 50% at the end of the work day. and i run my phone until it gets to power saver mode at 15% which easily lasts me until 8pm. granted i am not a power user.

so i would say it slightly makes battery efficiency better..

and now I'm seeing some problems in the text messaging app. When typing in landscape and I hit the "done" button it sometimes isnt doing anything until after I hit the back button to get rid of the keyboard.

also sometimes when I send a message it's taking the last word of it and putting it as the first word of a new, not yet sent outgoing message.

My police scanner app wont connect like it used to, had to change some settings to not use android audio. There's chases and drive-bys going on, my city's going to shit with this failure-rewarding free money system and I need to hear, come on!

Once saw some font artifacting when typing in the address/search bar of doplhin.

I guess I'm getting ready to finally root and flash some roms if another wipe wont fix. I'm geeky enough with linux machines and linux virtual machines all over that you'd think I'd have done it long ago but there's only been a few root things I've wanted like mounting smbfs to filesytem, deleteting blockbuster, att nav et. al., running droidwall, configuring with autostarts but all together they didn't seem worth the trouble. I guess if I'm getting bugs even using it as normal; I turn to the community roms to fix like so many users of other phones have to.* Love CM7 on the nook color, maybe it's time. Gingerbeast looks nice too. I only like sense for the clock app really (the app, not the giant widget) and I'm sure I can find something to replace that.

* edit: ok that part sounded martyrish/self pityish or something. I admit, I did, knowing the risks, install a rom that was at the time (fri morning) not known to be for sure as final/production. (although it was a manufacturer one I downloaded from their server, just from a less-than-public link.)

I'm super new to this, so please don't chastise me for being ignorant of all the tech talk. Ok...so I went ahead with the manual update, So far, Ive had a few issues. Same thing another user mentioned about messages coming in with a 1 in front of the number and not matching my contacts. I did not have this issue before. Does Juice Defender really work? I had it as an app with Froyo and my battery was not great, but not horrible either. Once I installed gingerbread, Juice Defender no longer works for some reason and it seems as if my battery life has diminished slightly. I'm hoping this improves after a few charge cycles. Lastly, if the notification bar and the app scrolling are the only changes that I am noticing, I am a little disappointed with GB. Is it possible to get the official update when it comes out (and is hopefully bug free) and install that version overtop, or am I stuck with this version on my phone?

When I checked for update yesterday, it said it was up to date. I just checked this morning and it says "install interrupted - current software is up to date, you may check back in 7 hrs 30 mins"

I am thinking some update got interrupted. Not sure if it's the GB update though.

Wow. I just checked and it also said install interrupted and check back in (time remaining from 24 hours from last check). Hmmm.

As of April 30, 2011 AT&T has issued an update to the HTC Inspire 4G and the Motorola Atrix 4G enabling HSUPA. As of May 2011, AT&T issued an over the air update to the Inspire 4G allowing unknown sources to be installed, which removes the need to sideload applications (some users may need to call tech support to get this update). On July 25, 2011 AT&T announced it would issue Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1 to the phone. [9] The update should be released by August 12, 2011.

Where is this info coming from? Also, 2.1 isn't being released with gingerbread, it already shipped stock with the phone.
