Revolutionary App Idea!!!!

I just had the craziest app idea on my way home from school! I'll start by saying hopefuuly this hasn't been said or isn't already in development so I won't look like an idiot. I'll also include that I'm PISSED i cant develop this program myself because I've taken a year and a half of computer science and I understand the basic idea but I'm a good two years before I would be able to do anything like this...anyway here goes: you know how the shop savvy can scan barcodes to find cheapest price in your area? What if an app could use similar technology to scan food products we eat everyday?!! If it scans the barcode it could identify the food, then knowing that it could identify they nutritional info that comes with almost every product. The app could then track what you eat by you taking a picture of the barcode and putting the amount of servings you eat of the item! to take it a step further the app could find recommended daily values of say proteins fats and carbs and compare what you ate vs what you should have ate!! Or even if you are on some kind of diet it could recommend different levels of carbs or potassium and foods from the internet! The possibilities are endless! Lemme know what you guys think!! I didn't take the time to see if this is already in development because I was so excited I had to write it down.

I'd say thats a very good idea. could run into issues though... like the fact that many foods, like fruits dont have barcodes, just the 4 digit number and also if you make a recipe that has many ingredients, it would be difficult to scan in every ingredient and put in the amount used.

Like I said, a very good idea in my opinion, just might run into a few issues to make it feasible...

I did think of that but I figured maybe there could be an option to input a fruit or vegetable or something else that doesnt have a barcode into the system...say if you bought an item and you already have it scanned you could just put the amount of what you used say a teaspoon and it could calculate the nutrition from there. My original thinking was that you would only have to scan a product once to use it then you could have a library or a history of scanned items like how shop savvy does!

this sounds like a great app that i would definetly use, however it does sound a lot like a computer program called fitday, which you can check out at www.fitday.com

the only difference is you have to type in the food instead of taking a picture of it.

Wow this is actually more involved then I originally had in mind for the app. I had a feeling something like this was already out there. But I was thinking more of just strictly for food.. I don't know maybe the scanning part is a dumb idea but I definitely thought at first it would be convenient to use that existing technology for a nutritional benefit.

Pretty clever idear, however redundant. Any food that has a bar code already has the nutritional information on it. Also trying to keep track of how many portions you eat based on the box values ... my god if I only that kind of time in my life. Best way to tell how many calories you should is a scale in the morning and then adjust for the day.

Rule of thumb in my life ... don't eat anything in a box or can and you won't have to worry about what others put in your food. Restaurants are the exception to the rule

I'm looking forward to being able to walk up behind a girl and scan her neck to see if she's interested in Italian Americans or not. Something useful for riding cramped subways in the morning.
