iphone for sprint

a.) Sprint will get the iPhone 5 and likely end up having to change it's pricing structure.

b.) The last national carrier to offer unlimited data and better pricing will be bought out or go bankrupt because they don't carry a device that is only popular because of the hype that was created 4 years ago when it was actually ahead of it's time.

People don't understand the negative control that the iPhone has over the rest of the wireless market.

but answer me this, (as i am by no means a biz/marketing/pricing expert) but WHY would simply adding the iPhone force a carrier(eg Sprint) into changing their pricing structure?

Sprint has plenty of internet capable phones/smartphones already, so why would one extra smartphone cause the disappearance of the unlimited pricing structure that is in place now?? what is it about the iphone that would make users utilize more bandwidth per day than they already do on there EVO/Galaxy or {insert your favorite smartphone here}

Simple answer: Because Apple wants total control over every device they put on the market including pricing structure. Apple went to Verizon with the original iPhone first, but Verizon turned them down because they didn't like the control Apple wanted to have over their customers, so Apple went to AT&T. This is not good for the consumer and the more people that support the iFail, the more control over the entire market it will have.

If you ask me anyone who buys the iFail is ******ed. Not only are you supporting an over-bearing and controlling company, but the device's hardware and OS is behind in technology compared to other devices anyways....

ok...but...why would apple want to limit the use of their device? or control the pricing structure or the carriers, what do they get out of it (other than control)...

from apple marketing...here is a "great" device, stream movies, be active with social media, share stuff, post on the net, talk on the phone (some at the same time as you surf) but only a little bit...huh?

seems that limiting device use would benefit the carrier, not the manufacutrer of the device...

please clarify...

so a fashion designer creates a one of a kind dress, puts it on a famous actress, every woman wants it, they make 500 repro's, price is sky high..it sells, but it comes with a contract that says you can only wear it for the first hour of your evening out...

my original question was in response to hearing (essentially this statement over and over.. "if sprint gets the iPhone, say good-bye to unlimited access plans..."

Network congestion. They're basing that assumption that Sprint would kill unlimited data based on the hit AT&T's network took when the iPhone launched. That was crazy bad, yo.

but would there be that big of a shift of users to Sprint??
I guess Sprint would woo non iphone users to switch or current iphone users on other carriers only by offering unlimited plans...why else would they leave?

and most Android users already on sprint would a> not likely switch, given what i read on here and b>if they did switch, not sure they'd use an iPhone any more than they do their EVO/Galaxy etc...

It's really Apple's desire to impose limitations on consumers as they have done for the last 30 years. Dan330 pretty much hit the nail right on the head.

I don't think Sprint will limit data usage as this is one of their few competitive advantages along with the monthly plan pricing. I think people use as much data with androids as they would with an iPhone. Apple forces carriers to give up more up front than other carriers when the iPhone is sold, and this is why Sprint waited so long. Sprint is getting hammered on subsidies as noted in their Q2 results. You may see sprint have a higher equipment price, but keep unlimited data the same. I may stay with Android unless the Sprint iPhone is a world phone (I think it will be CDMA only).

I bet if Sprint does get the iPhone, you will see unlimited data (for the iPhone at least) go away because Sprint will figure that people will still buy the iPhone and more expensive plans on Sprint because they will still be cheaper than the other carriers.

Sprint figures people are willing to pay a premium for the iPhone, therefore will pay more for their plan too.

I have used iPhone / iPad 2, am not impressed at all. I was very impressed in 2007 / 2008. It is now 2011 and Apple has basically stood still on their technology in 4 years. The woeful notification system is finally being addressed in iOS 5...woohoo.

Android has leapfrogged over iPhone / iOS in technology / innovation, and delivers so much more for the value.

Maybe in 2009 and even early 2010 you could make the argument iPhone was better, but it's late 2011 now and there is no way anyone can argue the iPhone is better, at least not with a straight face.

There are still people who repeat the same tired arguments about iOS / iPhone from 2008/2009, but that time is quickly passing as more and more people are exposed to the superior technology that Android is.

Posted as an unbiased user of both Android and iOS devices, over many generations of both mobile platforms. I am no fanboy of either Android or iOS, but a fanboy of technology benefitting consumers. Right now Apple is not the consumer's friend.

I hear it's coming in October. I would like to hear from some Verizon users how the battery life is on CDMA. I like the freedom of carrying extra batteries for my Epic that I would not have with an IPhone. I will stick with Android.

I am an ex-Sprint customer, left Sprint when the Verizon iPhone 4 came out. While I really liked the Market Apps, I (my opinion) prefer the Apple APP Store over the ones available in Market. The only down side is that, except in rare instances, Apple's App Store won't refund your money.

The battery life on my 16GB iPhone was much better than the stock battery in my Sprint EVO 4G. The overall system on my iPhone seems more stable, and the iTunes interface provides excellent backup, should my phone die and I have to replace it.

Even though I prefer the iPhone, I have to admit that I sometimes miss using the EVO (or other Android) phone. I recently picked up the Verizon version of the LG Optimus S for less than $100, and now, using Verizon's web site, I can switch which phone is "active" on my account in the matter of a few seconds, no charge, no hassel, no human interface. Now, I have the best of both worlds...

Yep, battery life is certainly a big advantage for the iPhone. I think you will see the android manufacturers focus on battery life. They have made some good improvements in this years lineup from reviews i have seen of the EVO3d and Photon. Being able to carry a spare battery evens the playing field somewhat.

I noticed recently that Sprint also allows you to switch devices through the web, but I'm not sure how that works between platforms with some of the SOCS being different for blackberry etc. I've never tried it.

It is. When it takes time to load from the SD card, when the animation glitches, when the battery dies by 3pm...when the '3D' makes you want to punch yourself in the face, when it lags pulling up an application, when it lags pulling up emails, etc.

I have Android now, and I do enjoy some features, its just not a polished/finished product.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Android has more functionality, but the iPhone performs its feature-set with unparalleled quality.

Then, there is the apps. The QUALITY of apps for iPhone are so much better...facebook, for example.

Honestly, I hope there is a different pricing structure for iPhone users. If sprint kept unlimited data for everybody, it would put the nail in the coffin on their data network in my area, which has been horrendous over the past six months.
