In my house.
Okay, just like the one ring, this is the one thread to rule all info about if/when Rogers will give you an HTC Magic because you have an HTC Dream.

PLEASE stop asking about it in other threads. Check here. as soon as the latest info is known, it will be posted here, probably by Mary her self.

For the record, here is the latest as of March 24, 2010

The Dream to Magic upgrade is OVER, DONE, GONE, FINISHED, however some people in this thread have had some success since the official end getting the upgrade.

If you call and ask a Rogers CSR you will likely get many different answers because they have NO clue, and very little training.

The following is NOT true:

1. It is NOT true that the Dream to Magic upgrade was/is because of the 911 bug.

2. It is NOT true that the upgrade has been canceled because the bug has been fixed.

3. It is NOT true that you have to pay anything.

4. It is NOT true that you have to send in your Dream.

If a CSR or rep from the Office of the President (OotP) tells you any of the above, he/she is either ignorant or lying, but either way, wrong.

The following is TRUE:

1. To qualify for the upgrade, you must have purchased your HTC Dream from Rogers WITH a 3 year data contract prior to Dec 31, 2009.

2. You do NOT have to pay ANYTHING! Zip, Zero, Zilch, Nada, Bupkiss!

3. You do NOT have to send back your Dream. You get to KEEP IT!

These are facts as confirmed by Rogers Mary. The BEST thing you can do when you call is ask them FIRST to look in your account for a note about your HTC Dream phone and the upgrade. RogersMary says everyone who qualifies will have a note on their account. If you just call up and ask about the "Dream Upgrade" or the "Magic Upgrade" you will probably just confuse them. If a Rogers CSR tried to tell you she does not exist or is not a Rogers employee, I can confirm that she is. Her official title is:

Mary Pretotto
Manager, Social Media Monitoring & Engagement
Rogers Communications Inc.

No, I will NOT post her email address or phone number. You can contact her via Twitter at Mary @ Rogers (RogersMary) on Twitter

So the only way to get SenseUI... is by ditching our Dreams in favor of a soft keyboard... We'll see about this. Maybe offer the X10 instead? Or the LG Eve? I bought my dream specifically to be able to write using the qwerty.

Please let's keep this thread on topic so it is not cluttered and remains easy to find the most recent info.

This thread is not to discuss the upgrade, or even Rogers. Please just come here to check for info on the upgrade program.

Thanks!

okay just a quick question to clarify for myself. i bought my dream in oct of 09. with the data plan commited as part of my 3 year contract. so does that mean i am eligible for a free upgrade to a magic and able to keep my dream at the same time?

As per my first post:

1. You must have purchased the Dream any time before Dec 31 2009.
2. You must have signed up for a 3 year data contract.
3. You will get to keep your Dream.

As long as you meet requirements 1 and 2 you should qualify.

Arcaetal claims that his order was canceled. I'll be calling to check in on mine tonight.

Has anyone else reported this?

Yes, many people have reported their orders have been canceled, while others report they are on hold/suspended.

I imagine there is a lot of confusion over this program at Rogers due to a lack of organized communication.

Apparently Rogers also has reported running out of stock of the Magic because of the popularity of the upgrade program. Combined with the program being suspended, I imagine there was internal confusion.

I recommend everyone who had a CONFIRMED order before the 911 Bug happened should call in to find out whether their order is still on file and on hold, or canceled.

If it was canceled they will most likely NOT be able to put another order into the system until the upgrade program is restarted.

Check here for updates. I will change the thread title to whatever the date is when/if we get more info.

Just got off the phone with Rogers. The guy told me that yes my order was canceled, but that once the upgrade program is taken off hold it will contine as normal.

So basically we should still be getting the Magics at the end of this. *knock on wood*.

Hi Everyone.

First off, thanks for your patience and thanks to Michael for starting this thread. As you know, the program is on hold until the devices have been updated with the new software updates. When I have more details, I'll be sure to return here to post them.

As for orders being canceled, I'll have to look into that. But, not to worry. I wouldn't even recommend calling into Care at this point. Once the stock is back you can call at that time.

Hope that helps for now. Let me know if you have any further questions or PM me if you have a concern you don't' want to share on the thread.

Thanks and have a great weekend.
Mary

I just received the following e-mail from my "contact person" at the Office of the President:

I have been informed that all Dream and Magic devices have been pulled from stores as well from our warehouses so that the 911 patch can be applied to them before we send them out to customers. There is currently no estimate as to when the phones will be available again. As I can understand waiting for the device is proving to be a great inconvenience
you may wish to select a different model phone which we can cancel the current order and ship out the device you have selected without further delay. This device swap will be at no charge providing it is the same retail price value as the HTC which is $599, unless you are willing to pay the difference. You may visit www.rogers.com for available models.
So I am now considering the LG Eve. My roommate (who also has a Dream) just called to get some specs not listed on Rogers' site (e.g. What OS does this currently have and will it be Getting Android 2.0 - the Eve was released with 1.5 Cupcake so knowing Rogers, may or may not have gotten an upgrade to 1.6 or be getting 2.0/2.1. Neither of us is willing to spend all this time and effort to end up with yet another handset whose software path has been "terminated". Also, Rogers lists the Eve's internal memory as 150mb, which if true makes it equally useless.) and got yet another CSR who had no idea what we were talking about. Apparently their "system is down," though, so we have to call back in a few hours.

Whether this will actually happen? We shall see.

Yep, just spoke to a Rogers CSR (the first genuinely informative one I've ever had - had a Dream himself so actually knew what I was talking about!) who confirmed that the Rogers version of the Eve had a much lower internal memory, so would probably be dead-ended. He did talk a lot about the Sony Ericsson X10, which he said would probably be released in February, so I'm now going to contact the Office of the President again and see if my upgrade can be held until then. Otherwise I will just wait for the theoretical Magic to appear.

Please start a new thread for this.

This thread is specifically to keep people updated on the status of the Dream > Magic upgrade. Hijacking the thread will make it harder for people to get the info.

Thanks!

This thread is specifically to keep people updated on the status of the Dream > Magic upgrade.

Thanks for getting it back on track. I'll add that I will try to answer questions related to the Dream to Magic upgrade in this thread, as I have details available.

This upgrade is a special promotion. Those interested in a different device will - as with all hardware upgrades - need to discuss their eligibility options with Customer Care.

Mary, is there any ETA when the program will be reinstated? The simple methods for the update have not worked, and SD card option seems to brick some phones - a risk i cannot take as i need a phone everyday. A half-working phone is bad enough, but a bricked one would be a disaster. If upgrading to a magic is the faster and more sure-fire way to get a working phone, then it should be made available asap. Thanks.
