if u upgrade ur software to android version 2.3.4 (flash a newer firmware, KG5 is the newest) the shutter is silent when u turn on Silent Mode. if not, i read a more complicated method in the SGS2 tips and tricks thread, u could check that out
you can appearntly disable the shutter sound (If you are rooted)
rename the shutter sound ogg file in /system/media/audio/ui. Rename it to .ogg.bak and it should stop the noise...
you have the lastest but it doesnt mean its a setting for the shutter.
you will find if it is possible just putting it in silent mode will mute it, turning down volumes wont do anything if the firmware doesnt support it.
i have kf4 and also cannot disable it, as heshanj said, it is an option introduced in 2.3.4 so really unless you root or manually update through odin (there are threads on this and read up in the root section to get more of an understanding), you have to wait for your ISP to do the update via Kies.
p.s. look at the firmware version like the alphabet = kE1 then kF1 then kG1 etc....the last number is just which one it is, starting from 1.
I'm in the UK, Not north America. My mate at work has the same phone, had it a couple of weeks before me with Vodaphone. I am on Orange and we have different firmware it appears. Will try some of the advice above.
