How to procced with the dream>magic hardware upgrade?

Hi there. To get my Wait For the X10 offer, I had to get escalated up the Rogers CSR tree to the Office of the President (took a couple of weeks) and keep on them for a couple of weeks. No idea whether this is something they're definitely doing for all customers or if it's the result of my endlessly badgering them. At present my Office-of-the-President person has said the offer is good until the end of February, but which time the X10 should hopefully have been released and I can use my $599.99 credit on that and pay the difference. *crosses fingers that the X10 will indeed be released by then*

As of right now there is no official release date for the X10, but the rep I spoke to as well as the Office of the President guy told me they "expect it before the end of February," hence my offer being extended until then with the stated aim (on his part) to upgrade to the X10.

Similarly, there's been no official price announcement from Rogers, but various sources are quoting the retail price of the X10 at ~$870. Sony Ericsson are generally quite pricey, so I would expect it to be at least $800 CAD off-contract. For me, that leaves a difference of at least $200 (with the $599.99 credit), but at this point I'm willing.

In terms of getting escalated, you have to talk to Customer Service, explain the whole upgrade-to-Magic deal, explain the indefinitely-on-hold thing, and in my case tell them that "indefinite" just isn't going to work for you. In order to even talk to the Office of the President you have to get escalated from Customer Care to a manager and from there on upwards, else they pretty much just ignore you.

Of course, for any of this to work you have to get lucky enough to get a CSR, first try, who has actually heard of Android. My ratio so far is running at about 5:1.

I'd say much higher now. So many Android users called for support because of that 911 glitch. I'd say the vast majority.

I'm now being told (by my contact in the Office of the President) that they can only promise the release of the X10 "in Quarter 2," which could be any time from now until the end of June. They've extended my offer accordingly to "until the X10 comes out." it seems that all you have to do to get good service from Rogers is lose four days of your life on the telephone. o_O
