Root Japanese HTC EVO Wimax ISW11HT (4G) rooting HELP!?

The Japanese EVO can now be rooted! Download the tool from here: Revolutionary. Follow the instructions here: [ROOT] EVO 4G Gingerbread 2.3 Root Tutorial (Windows) - xda-developers. At the bottom, it says it won't work on Japanese EVOs, but the Revolutionary tool has been updated since to support HBOOT 2.15.0001. I just did it on mine and I have root and S-OFF now :)

Edit: Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. I've had this thread bookmarked so I posted it here.

Thanks very much! Any problems so far?

I just finished flashing Cyanogen Mod 7 to it and it's working great so far. :D

Edit: The lock screen in CM7 must be hard coded to say "Sprint". It's kind of weird seeing that instead of KDDI.

2nd Edit: Can't seem to send C-Mail. I need to figure out how to get the Messaging app off au's ROM so I can send again.

How about Wimax service? GPS? All radios functioning as they should? As far as C-Mail, AU seems to have limited it's functionality on the J-EVO...

WiMax comes up, but my house is just out of range so I don't get a signal (WiMax coverage in Okinawa is a joke). I'll try and test it out tomorrow though. Everything else is working perfectly. It's definitely faster and 3D performance seems to have improved. The Power Control widget now has options to turn on/off the wifi hotspot and WiMax and it also has options to do things like automatically turn off bluetooth when external power is disconnected (perfect for my car!).

The only thing is the C-Mail issue. I know that for at least a brief period, I was able to send C-Mails from the stock messaging app. AU released an update shortly after I got the phone that made that work. I have had a lot of problems sending messages over the last few weeks though (I don't use C-Mail very much so I can't say exactly when I started having a problem), so I'm not sure if it's the messaging app causing me problems or if it's related to the C-Mail sending problems I've been having. Receiving messages should work fine though.

Awesome! I'm attempting the root now. Hope all goes well...

You'll be fine. It's incredibly easy. All I did was download CM7 as well as the Google apps package for it and put it on my SD card. I then went in to the recovery thing that Revolutionary installed, backed up my stock ROM and data, did a factory wipe, then installed the CM7 and Google Apps zip files. I'm getting ready to try out some other ROMs...I'm going to be up all night :D

Oh, with the new Android Market app, you'll see the "Movies" section. It will actually let you rent movies, but you won't be able to play them. I found this out the hard way, but Google refunded me pretty quick after I contacted them.

No good... Says "Your device supersonic with HBOOT 2.15.0001 is not supported at this time". How'd you get through too entering the beta key?

Edit: Nevermind. Tried opening it again (this time with Norton Antivirus disabled) and I got to the beta key entry... Invalid beta key?!?

Edit 2: Sorry sorry! I'm a mess tonight. Misstyped the key. Zerging now!

Edit 3: SUCCESS!!! Rooted!

You downloaded revolutionary-0.4pre4.zip right? I got that same error on the pre3 version which I downloaded a few days ago, but this new pre4 version worked on my first try. It should have prompted you for the beta key you can get from the website.

Saw your edit. Make sure you enter the beta key from the website exactly. I copied and pasted it. Also, make sure all the information you put in that form for the beta key is correct. Device should be Evo 4G, HBOOT should be 2.15.0001, and your serial number (mine starts with SHTB...) need to be exactly correct.

Edit: Saw your 2nd edit :) Congrats and good luck!

This site (along with arcticblue, thanks dude!) really helped me a lot during the rooting process.

Root for HTC Evo 4G Gingerbread is HERE! | HTC Evo 4G Hacks!

That's pretty much exactly the steps I followed except that instead of flashing the SuperUser zip at the end, I flashed Cyanogen Mod 7 (it has Android 2.3.4) and the Google apps package for it. AU is supposed to release Android 2.3 officially in September I think so maybe I'll switch back to stock (but rooted) then to check it out. If you flash another ROM, make sure to do a backup in recovery so you can go back to stock easily.

Rooted and flashed to CyanogenMod 7! Lots of work to be done now... Anyone got a goot email widget? I tried k9 for Pure, but apparently Google has restricted some non-preloaded factory widgets from connecting to Gmail apparently...

congrats on finally getting your evo rooted! finally!:D

my friend has this on his evo Email Widget looks pretty cool. i have not played with it but give it a try. it might not work on newer versions of the gmail app, however.

I am very new to this rooting stuff.... I rooted my Japanese HTC evo but I am very unsure how to get the right firmware updates for my phone, so i dont brick it. Any suggestions?

now that you are rooted you can just flash a rom and you are good to go.

please read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. it has a section on how to flash roms.

also you can get them here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html
