We are having new furniture made at my office so I had to make a new media dock out of Bolivian Rosewood to match. It has all the same features of version 1.0.

I have just finished glueing up my new media dock but could not wait to share it. I know that there are more of you out there with custom Droid docks. Please share photos of your work below.

The pic below is of my dock in pieces, pre-glue up. It is cut from a nicely figured piece of Teak wood that I had in my garage. I have since glued it up and coated it with a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Tomorrow I will apply a coat of finishing wax and post more photos.

It features a recessed magnet for dock activation and a slot cut out for the speaker.

As the creator of the original MIKRADLE, I'd certainly be interested in seeing your finished dock. Though I already can envision the completed piece just looking at the parts, and easily seeing how they will fit together. Kind of like a wooden sofa. Right? ;)

I'm assuming you are going to secure the microUSB connector? Very nice to see others applying innovative ideas! :) cuskit

Those look great! Post up a bigger picture in here.
I'd love to - but it might result in being banned for spamming. I do appreciate your flattering compliment! Thank you! You can see them better on ebay MOTOROLA DROID MULTIMEDIA DOCK MIKRADLE (BLACK) NEW! - eBay (item 140376887476 end time Feb-21-10 20:41:57 PST)
I will have our website up very soon now - there you will be able to see full sized photos as well as video. I'm really excited about it. I'll be posting here when it debuts. cuskit

You all don't really need a dock. Just download the "Dockrunner" app! It gives you everything you would get if you had a dock and saves you money in the process. When I plug my phone up to charge and open dockrunner it turns my phone into the Alarm Clock looking screen with the weather, music and slideshow options on the screen. No dock needed.

Ah HA! OP updated with completed pics.

Some folks may like these things, others may not. But I know there have got to be others out that that have put together a simple droid stand. Post yer pics if ya got em.

It is really nice to have my Droid held up right and sturdy when I reach for that snooze button at 5:30 in the morning.

The cable is built into the dock permanently which would suck if I had only one cable but it allows me to just slide the Droid in or pull it out without touching the cable.

Dock - check
Root - check
New ROM flash - up next

Thanks for looking. Let's see yours

Thanks for the input - but though most here are already aware of Dockrunner, this thread is about custom built docks - not software. Dockrunner is a great software program - but it does nothing to position your Droid for easy viewing, consistent placement as well as an aesthetically pleasing cradle that befits a room's decor. :) cuskit

@cuskit - go to post a reply, and if you use the quick reply at the bottom, as opposed to the Post Reply button to the left, then click on the Go Advanced button.

Now in the Advanced Reply mode, scroll down to the Additional Options section, and click on Manage Attachments button - that will (depending upon your browser setup) either open a new window or else a new tab, where you can upload a pic from your machine.

It allows for multiple uploads, but I think there is a restriction on the size of the images and the types - scroll down in the new window/tab to see them. Click the Browse button / click in the text box to open a file manager in which you can select your image(s) to upload. When done selecting all images, click the upload button. If successful, you'll see a new line under Upload file from URL that says Current attachments.

(Hint - no restrictions on .JPG nor .PSD, but there are on other image types)

One the image(s) have uploaded, close the box by going to the bottom of the windows / tab and clicking the Close this windows button.

Now, back to the main reply window - use the paperclip icon to add your attachment(s) to the post, like so:

06-10-06_1130.jpg

Et voila!

The only thing I don't like about most of these custom docks is that you can't simply slide your phone in. It looks like you have to plug it in yourself and then sit it in the dock.

At least with the MOTO dock you can slide it in and pull it right out (TWSS)
Truthfully, that is exactly the reason I began making my own dock. I bought the MOTO dock and it didn't work with my cover, so back it went. The MOTO dock precludes using a cover - you have to take it off to use the dock. I find it much easier to plug my charger cable into my Droid while using MIKRADLE than constantly taking the cover on and off, which with my Gel Cover is a NIGHTMARE! ;)

I appreciate what you are saying though. But unless all the cover manufacturers were to make their covers the exact thickness, no dock with a dedicated fixed plug would be able to accommodate all covers on the market. So - these innovative docks such as MIKRADLE and the others you are seeing here are filling in the void. :) cuskit

the top version is WAY better. more modern. more hip. more cool.

the bottom version is way to "kitchen" & 70's feeling. Like old colonial. I expect to see a bread box and a paper towel dispenser as part of the combo.

PS - ever get your carbon fiber case :) man, did that turn into a real dog & pony show or what? I finally stopped paying attention at like page 50.

I think carbon fiber is "cool" but I am not creative enough to think of a way to use it with a droid without out being forced and lame.

I was referring to the thread over on Droid Forum about that carbon fiber case fiasco - not about you making a holder. I swore I saw you over there? I thought we were both looking at buying one..

I've been holding out on posting this, but this is a droid dock I built with built-in usb power/data connector, and magnetic dock activation for my 81' Porsche 911. I can post some construction photo's if anybody wants them. The Droid slides down onto the usb jack and the dock is plugged into a usb cable routed behind the dash from the stereo. The stereo does pretty good with hot switching between calls mp3, and navigation w/bluetooth. At least I don't get hands free tickets, but the speeders, well... too bad the droid won't do radar detector yet.
