Scroll down for tutorial on how to change from Haykuro's radio to original

First off, we all know Rogers wants us to get its rom on our phones to keep our data. yycken has CyanogenMod and reports he didn't lose his data. He says he followed these instructions. I haven't made sure yet (phone still charging) but I'll try to confirm as soon as possible. If anyone can try this now I'd appreciate it. You might need to revert your root first though (probably). Be careful however not everything would be compatible.

Just thought I'd save some androids out there before they get updated.

yycken's post
By revert your root I mean get your phone back to stock

I never lost Data on my Dream with cyanogen either. To be fair though, I updated my magic and didn't put my sim card back into my Dream until after everybody started loosing data.

gbd

Which method did you use? Haykuro's or the one on CM's website? As to me I followed Haykuro's, and I lost data along with everyone else.

I used the guide at Full Update Guide - Rogers Dream EBI1 to CyanogenMod - CyanogenMod Wiki.

Just note however that although I have 2 devices I only have 1 Sim card and 1 account. It could be that Rogers picked up the update on my Magic and I was good to go from there on.

Possible but yycken didn't mention using an update phone. He used the same method, so it's probably why you didn't lose your data. I think Rogers kept scanning all Dreams and Magics because even after having a network refresh performed, many reported losing data.

It sounds like the network automatically blocks your internet if your running a certain version of the dream.

Once its blocked you might need a network refresh to unblock it?

I guess "people" do it because if it were automatic, you should be blocked instantly (without having to sleep and see)
BTW done. now I have the radio yycken talked about. I'll tell you guys if it works. Goodnight.

I just rooted my phone. I was having trouble getting my laptop to connect to my phone(windows server 2008 on my laptop) but I got it working just now using another computer. Still without internet. If I don't have internet tomorrow I'm going to try the network refresh thing. If that doesn't work I'll go swap phones for a few hours with a guy I know that has a magic that he updated.

I just got internet back on my phone. Called in and said I had an iphone with connectivity issues intermittently. Text messages weren't coming right away and the internet was working on and off. We tried a few things to fix it including checking the number on the sim card. Once the sim card was out and I had the battery out he said he was doing a network refresh.:D

Interestingly enough he said if you power your phone down and pull the battery for 20 minutes or so it will force the phone to do a network refresh! That would make this a lot easier! Anyone with a newly rooted phone thats locked out want to try this?

Cool. I'll post a tutorial on how to change your radio from Haykuro's to Rogers' and keep your root. And probably keep your data too :D

Apparently it works. I woke up today to see 3G :D Will wait one more day to confirm.

Anyways if you have already rooted your phone by Haykuro's method here's how to do it (This will just get you ready for this tutorial):
As always, backup everything you don't want to lose.
ONLY FOR DREAM. DO NOT ATTEMPT ON MAGIC.

You will need:
1. Fastboot
2. losemyroot.zip
3. rogers_root_unzip_me.zip
4. The latest Amon-Ra's recovery. Get the latest one here. Be sure to get the one with "R" at the end. Else you will brick your phone.

What to do:
You figure out which files to extract and how to organize them. You must be familiar with fastboot if you're already rooted.

1. Place update.zip from rogers_root_unzip_me.zip on your sdcard. You can rename if to spl.zip if you don't want to get confused with other files.

2. Backup with nandroid before starting. (Optional)

3. Get into fastboot

4. From losemyroot.zip, take radio.img and flash it into your phone.

5. Flash Amon-Ra's recovery into your phone. (Using fastboot)

6. Exit fastboot mode to recovery mode.

7. Apply update.zip. (spl.zip if you renamed it)

Well done, now you're set to go. Follow this tutorial. You won't need to replace your spl or recovery.

Some last notes:
- Be careful as to which rom you choose. I recommend sticking to Cyanogen. If you decide not to, choose one for the Rogers' radio. If you don't know the difference, STICK TO CYANOGENMOD.

- You need an sdcard reader to follow my process. If you don't have one read the full tutorial first and place the files you need on the sdcard before you flash anything. I believe Amon-Ra's latest rom has full adb support, but it would waste you time typing commands and double checking the spelling.

- Using a custom rom with the Rogers' radio carries the highest risk of bricking your phone. Be very selective as to which files you choose and be very careful throughout the process.

Remind me if I forgot anything :D Happy Flashing

Forgot to mention: this is for the Dream. I didn't look into the Magic, but you will need a different radio and recovery for sure. DON'T USE THIS IF YOU HAVE A MAGIC

Are you kidding me? No one wants to keep root and get data back? Wow! What a waste of time it was.

Hey, Chip, chill out. You think because no one replied to your post they all hate rooting their phone and are wasting your time? You feel unappreciated?

I have not applied the Rogers update to my phone yet. I'm still deciding. I might just end up rooting myself, and saying "screw you" to Rogers. In which case I will be grateful for the instructions.

Who knows... maybe they're all at church. ;-)

Thanks. It's just about me taking the time then no one making use of what I did. That sucks. Imagine no one read your blog, which btw hasn't had any new posts in some while :)

Nothing really to report yet. I'm waiting on info from RogersMary, and, hopefully, for someone to figure out how to root the Rogers ROM.

Thanks for posting the tutorial.

You're welcome, won't make much use for you though. Why isn't your phone rooted yet? Believe me you're missing a lot. You just need to try CyanogenMod.

huh? like the dude in the cool hat said, chill.
There are many rooters so you're not the only one. Some might not want to broadcast their details to Big Brother. Or already back in the data.

Ohhhh I didn't know anyone had root. What a BIG surprise. Man I'm cool don't imagine me throwing things and punching walls. I really am cool. The details have been shared on these forums. You can look for them. They aren't so technical, but if I could conclude what doesn't cause data to get cut off, I'll bet someone at Rogers can too. I just wanted to give rooters who haven't updated yet the ability to keep their root and data. The only reason this radio keeps data is that it gets detected as an updated version (the combination does this somehow). This thread will not get Rogers any closer from detecting our ROMs. I have no idea why they can't detect us, but I like this, and I hope there isn't another method they could use to find out which ROM we're running.

I can no longer understand what you are saying. Maybe that's why it sounded like you were upset that hordes of people weren't jumping with thanks over your instructions. Well I'm not here to argue so one more on the ignore list. I'm not here to play cat and mouse with rogers either.
rooted and running fine.
