Three desktops so you can clutter it with even more useless smilies.
Also, yes for more widgets and/or shortcuts/app icons.
How 2 use? With your finger of course, "long press"...
Best answer here ...
Another case of not reading the manual , PLEASE read the manual that came with the phone ( or go online to find one if you didn't get one ) , this is where you can get BASIC info and HOW TO's , for using the phone with stock OS ... After doing this , if you have any questions please feel free to READ through the forum or ask for help ...

Really?? Wow! Fyi, I'm not stupid. Didn't know that asking a question to get some opinions and suggestions would be so hard for someone to understand. Didn't think a question would turn up some rude answers. Sooo friendly I see. You are of no help and that's cool..... PEACE OUT.........

Please excuse the other members and their snarky(ugh I wish that word would die) attitudes. Some have come to expect a certain level of decorum in the forums which is interesting as its something that isn't readily available to the new guys.

Anyways Android does not have desktops, that's a pc term. They are called home screens, simply put when you press the home button, you go to the last home screen you were on. They hold shortcuts and widgets.

While it would be intersting to run apps in the manner that Palm has done with their Palm Pre, multitaskin only works so far as how the app has been programmed. Though as long as you dont kill the app with some sort of task killer, when you go back to that app it may still be in the state you left it in. Only some apps will continuously(or periodically) run in the background such as a music player or the facebook/twitter apps. Hold down the home button to bring up a list of the recently run apps.

But yes it is sorta expected by most that you at least leaf though the user guide that comes with the phone. I myself didn't open it till the second day of having the phone, but the point is I did, and so does everyone else. Local reference material should always come first.

As for the update, well have faith. heh though I find mine fading the longer I wait, but thats only when I've got nothing to do but read the forums and not reply to simple posts with too many smilies :p

So now if you decide to root your phone , you will now start a new thread asking *what is root and how to get?* , then I will say *before getting into root please do some research on android and how It works, the Responsibilities you gonna have running a rooted device * . You would then take that as me bashig you ignore my advice , try to root ,brick your phone , then come back here and be pissed at everyone cause you're out $479.00..

Was nothing rude against you, was just against your (first/original)post. Taking an in-kind response is to be expected every now and then.

I am glad you were able to figure things out and that it is working for you. In time you'll notice that android is indeed somewhat intuitive once you learn the basic interface and will be zipping around learning new awesome things every day. :3
