Hi,

I got my new Droid Motorola with Verizon. Still learning how to use it. I'm happy to have registered to this forum. :) I always windows smartphones before. So far I'm liking Droid better.
Anybody using the Craigsnotifica app? It's supposed to notify you when a new posting comes in. I have compared postings on my desktop and my notifications on droid. There is a lag of a few minutes. Anything I can do to make notifications faster? Thanks.

Hi Marciano,

I am the developer of that app.

Unfortunately there's a cache in the listings of craigslists.org website.

I think that they use sticky sessions, so your IP is binded to a server and when you do the same query many times you get the same results. This is the craigsnotifica case, since the requests are done to the same server (same ip) from the same phone. When you access from your computer you get the results from other server, so the results are "fresher" without cache.

I am sorry, but this can only be fixed if craigslists.org change their architecture. Unfortunately they are not famous by supporting external developers and apps. One time they have dropped all the requests from the app, so i had to change the app with a work around this. :(

Thanks for using the app! :D

Hi Rafael,
It is a great honor to have the actual creator of this app respond to my question. I also emailed you directly from the app page. The app is great. I check for updates on craigslist constantly. I believe sometimes your get a notification from craigsnotifica quicker than the actual post on craigslist. Is this possible?
Thanks! GREAT APP!

hey, thank you so much for the feedback!

yes, that's possible. As i tried to explain before: it depends on the machine that you query craigslists. In short words, if you do a query in craigslists with your browser or with craigsnotifica, the next time you do the same query it will be cached for some minutes (max 15 minutes).

It means that if you are browsing with the computer and then decide to put the same query in craigsnotifica, you will have more updated posts in craigsnotifica. The contrary is also true, if you are using craigsnotifica and decide to use the browser, the browser will contain more updated posts.

This probably happens because craigslists has many servers and it associate your ip with a server and each server has a different cache timeout.

I've noticed a 15 minutes delay. This is how craigslists.org is done. I wish i could change it. :/

Hi, first off I want to say I LOVE your application. I was curious if you have this available for an iPhone at all? That's the biggest thing I miss from my android.
