Help Desire low Internal Phone Storage

I have a major issue with my Desire. I've been keeping an eye on the amount of Internal Phone Storage space I have left as it's running very low and I've noticed that if I install an application and then uninstall it not all of the space is freed up. I've tried rebooting and that does not help. I don't want to go down the path of do a factory reset and restoring my apps but I can't think of any other way round it.

Does anyone know which folder on the phone applications are installed to? I've found the system apps in /system/app but I'd like to check to see if there's anything left behind from applications that I've uninstalled as a last resort.

hi i have messed with my phone for a week now and noticed the memory usage i think when you install and uninstall the uninstall leaves crap on your internal memory the best thing to do or what i did was find all the apps i am happy with do a backup with my backuppro which will back up your apps you have installed.and some data settings etc the restore phone to factory reset i got 140mb back i then install the apps i was happy with was left with 100mb memory. only pain is the backup doesnt back up how you have your sceans and widgets so you have to rearange them.

One word - caches, particularly the browser.

In the browser settings select clear cache.

Many other apps use caches that nibble away at your memory. There is an app in the Market called Cachemate but it only works on rooted phones.

Good tip!

Got the low memory warning over the weekend so stripped out some apps. Clearing the cached though got me an extra 14 meg (20 days or so light net use). I know it'll get eaten away and I cant rely on it but shows that with careful management you can reclaim a bit more.

I keep getting a low space message on my phone.. I have cleared the cache's now what.. HELP
Rooting followed by other tweaks will let you solve this, but not everyone is comfortable with that. If you are, then head over to the root forum and you'll find what you need. Remember you are on your own warranty wise if you do.

Otherwise, how many apps have you got & how many on sd? It may be that you have just filled the phone, but there can be other reasons. How much space is contacts storage using (use the applications menu to find out)? There are circumstances in which this can become very large (you get many duplicates of each contact, which is only visible when you edit an affected contact). There are various apps that can show you what is using space (e.g. I just used Quick System Info with apps sorted by data size).

If there are no problems and you've just used the space there are ways of forcing more apps to sd without root. There was a thread about it in this forum somewhere (use search). Edit: looking at SUroot's post in another thread I think it has been moved to the tips and tricks subforum.

As togger has said, the most complete & reliable solutions involve rooting. But only you can say whether that is for you.

Hi, my Contacts storage is the 2nd biggest app, behind flash update.

How do I make it smaller? Any way of editing affected contacts?

thanks

Hi, Please can someone help me, i'm tearing my hair out here!!

I have the HTC desire and for the past wekk i have had the low storage icon at the top of the phone.

I have deleted emails, messages, pictures. Moved apps to SD card, cleared cache done all things i thought i possibly could and the icon is still there.

I did sync my Facebook to contacts but have since cleared this, as after i had sync'd this its when the storage seemed to become low!!

It has started to affect sending messges, sometimes when i want to send a text, it will come up and say that i am unable to due to space but there is nothing else to delete.

Can anyone help at all?

Please :)

I got so fed up of this message that I deleted all the apps that were on the memory and changed them for ones that could go on sd card. This sometimes meant changing downloaded apps to the stock apps unfortunately. like the alarm clock.

-changed sky news for bbc news.

-also made sure that i cleared the cache every week. (acc cleaner free)

-also switched to dolphin browser to manage internet files

-also uninstalled all updates of adobe flash player and unticked auto-update box. this reduced it massively and ahsn't had much affect on the video performances.

Now hovers around 30mb free

I'm a novice too. I wouldn't take everything off. Go to "manage apps" and go through the list of them to see which oens are on your internal memory. sort by size. the biggest ones you have downloade dmight need to be deleted or changed for apps that can be stored on sd card. or at least have their updates uninstalled.

download (acc cleaner free) though. run it every week or so.
