Flan gallery application now available for Android 2.0!:

Sorry if this is a repost...didn't see it anywhere here. Would suck for my 1st post to be a FAIL.

Anyhow, saw this the other day and downloaded and installed the Flan Gallery on my Droid. Seems to be tons better than the stock gallery both in form and function.

The gallery takes a bit to load...I guess because it loads from the SD card initially? It has "crashed" a few times for me, but all it does is go back to the gallery menu page and doesn't FC or anything.

One really cool thing I noticed is that it will sort your photos by the location in which they were taken.

actually I did get it to install however iIhave one question: I don't think the "quasi" 3d effect is functioning properly. Is it supposed to give me an angular while scrolling through my pics? because it only does the angular 3d effect if iItry to scroll further once ive reached the end....if that makes sense...

You're referring to the 'tilt' ?

Just use the accelerometer.

uhh is it really necessary to use the computer like listed in the instructions? couldn't iIjust download it directly to my phone?

Uhh yes, there is a workaround. Download apk taking note where it is downloaded to. Email apak to yourself, and using browser not email app go to your email and open apk. Once downloaded open from notification bar and it will be second gallery in app list. Hope this helps!

A wha...? Sounds like a really convoluted way to install an apk file.

Everyone should have a file manager installed on their Droids.

I recommend Astro. Then all you have to do is navigate to your 'downloads' folder and click on the apk. Provided you have the setting checked that allows you to install non-market apps, it'll install.

ya I installed it successfully using astro. but now I have a new question

Id like to take full advantage of this app, I saw this comment on the youtube video previewing it

"The video misses one of the most interesting features of the flan gallery -- after installing, the phone's "Accounts and sync" settings includes a Picasa line (i.e., Mail, Contacts, PICASA, and Calendar). When enabled, all of your Picasa albums show up in the gallery and you can scrol through them just like they were local pictures"

now i don't currently have a picasa account but I know for sure when I go to accounts and sync on my phone there is no option to add a picasa account....would anyone like to elaborate on what this guy/gal was talking about

Yeah, pretty sure this won't work unless you have a cooked ROM with this preinstalled.

Last I heard, it requires a factory wipe to enable, but seeing as how you installed it with an .apk, it's on your /data partition and not the /system.

You'll just have to wait for 2.1 for that!

for some reason its all blurry, when ever i take a look at the pics full view ALL the pics are super blurry and pixelated.. does anyone have a solution to fix this problem??

Heard of that bug. Did you enter the gallery through the camera app? That's the only time I know when the pics won't fully render.

It should fully render after a second or two if you enter directly from the Gallery app.
