Help Nexus One unable to connect to ATT network

My N1 will not reconnect to a mobile network if it has been sitting for a few hours in a no-coverage area, such as a building.

I cannot get it to reconnect, even after refreshing the network search in settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks. This action only leaves me with no result or a message saying that there was an error in searching or connecting to mobile networks. The only solution is to restart the phone. Every time I try to turn the phone off after this error has occurred, the shutdown sequence hangs until either I become frustrated and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts itself. Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not have carrier service. Now, it does not.

I tried uninstalling all my programs and nothing has worked for me. I'm considering putting on the cyanogen ROM to see if it would fix this error, but I am hesitant to void my warranty. It's a pretty serious problem as I'm very frequently in a building where I don't get service. It's quite frustrating to have to wait to reconnect to a mobile network once I leave the building and hope that the error didn't occur or have to do a battery pull every time I realize that the phone simply won't reconnect.

Has anyone else had this issue, and does anyone know of any possible fixes?

lol im on tmobile but im roaming on att towers and i cant connect to the web on att towers...

The web was working fine, like three days ago then it just stop connecting im not getting no signal whatsoever...

i know this dosent answer ur question, but u can say im kinda going thorugh the samething to a certain extent..

@ laughter, I feel you might have a defective. Have you tried a factory reset? Not sure if uninstalling all programs mean that or you just uninstalled all of your apps. When I go from an area with zero network coverage to an area with coverage, my phone automatically connects to my carrier's network... Try calling HTC and see what they have to say and send it in if it is defective.

Your radio is turning off to conserve battery, but is not properly reactivating. When you are in the building, try switching to Airplane Mode and then turning off Airplane Mode when you leave. This is clearly a software glitch if the problem is resolved on a reboot.

You could also try flipping Airplane Mode on/off just after you have the problem and see if the radio re-engages.

I tried the airplane mode toggling after the glitch happened and it won't reconnect. I'm hoping the 2.2 android will fix the problem.

After almost a year of trouble free running, my Nexus One did this twice in one day. There's nothing that can be done to reconnect to the network and searching for a network under "Wireless & Networks" says that there is an error searching.

This is pissing me off enough to sell the damn thing.

I'm getting the same issue!!! It's been happening for ages. I can tell you that a factory reset doesn't do much, because i am forever changing roms and get the same issue on each one i try. I've even gone back to stock, and am getting the same thing.

I have found something that seems to help, though. Select "Use 2g Networks" in the wireless and network settings. I get stronger 2G signal, so it won't put the radio to sleep (forever!). Another thing i've noticed is that if WiFi is on, it tends to provoke the issue.

I would suggest that this is more a design flaw than a device specific defect. The reason I suggest it's not a defective phone is, I've tested another carrier sim in the phone for a couple of weeks, and have never had an issue. With this carrier I always experienced full signal, no matter where I was, and subsequently, didn't have an issue. Anyway. just my 2 cents.

Hi, has anyone figured this out? my Nexus One will not connect to the AT&T network at all. It just went out. the SIM worked fine in a different phone but the Nexus One for no apparent reason cannot locate the AT&T network. Anyone know why?

Check your APN setting. It might have auto reset itself.
