Review: EXOGEAR ExoMount - Car Mount

A while back I seen a few posts mention the EXOGEAR ExoMount and I wanted to give it a try. The mount holds the phone by using spring clip which makes it universal to any phone. They claim the suction cup can hold onto almost any flat surface. So far I feel that is true (I wouldn't try drywall though, might pull the paint off the wall!).

I wasn't interested in the HTC brand Car Mount due to the hassle of removing the case every time I want to use it and the non universal aspect of it.

The good:

  • Clamp system doesn't interfere with the volume or camera button.
  • Easy to operate the power button and charging port is facing down.
  • Very adjustable with a ball/socket
  • Suction cup holds to anything (very tacky soft rubber)
  • Rear camera functions while mounted
  • Looks great!

The Bad:

  • Small amount of vibration, only noticeable with the screen off.
  • When mounted to the windshield the spring clamp is a little awkward compared to dash mounted.
  • Suction cup holds too well.... I had trouble getting it off the windshield.

*notice the suction cup in the upper right hand of the picture. Mounting on the dash will eliminate this.

Overall I'm very happy with this mount and feel it is a quality product that should last for many smart phones to come.

Where to buy?
EXOGEAR ExoMount - Car Mount for iPhone, Smartphones
Retail price of $29.99 (free shipping)

Another place you can get is
1
eBay
for 20.99

I may have to get one myself, and the main reason is it looks like it can fit almost any phone, love it

I got mine on e-bay as well... about same price but a different seller. Ebay ExoMount

Yes, that is one of my favorite features as well. My wife has an Evo 4G so we can use her phone on trips too (so she doesn't feel left out.)

From my tracking# TUSTIN, CA, 92780

I was trying to find a seller more in the Midwest but noticed almost all of them were out in CA. It came really fast though. Ordered 8/24 and arrived 8/27.

I had some troubles getting my order from them. The email they sent me showed UPS with my tracking number, but it was actually shipped via USPS. I did get my order within a week, so I'm not really complaining.

All in all, I am happy with the mount. As was stated in the original review, it does seem pretty prone to vibration, at least with my Evo3D with an Otterbox Defender case.

In the documentation on their site, and on the box, it talks about how their suction device works even on things like drywall. I have no doubt about this. The thing stayed on my windshield without even using the suction control switch thing. Once I actually engaged the suction, there was no way it was coming off. After releasing the suction, I still had a hard time getting the thing off my windshield. It has more grip than any other kind of mount I have ever used. Really good.

I've only been using the mount for a day so far, but I am pretty happy with it. It is quick and easy to put the phone in and take it out. It holds the phone pretty well. For just over $20, it is hard to complain about it. Being able to use it with pretty much ANY phone/case combo or GPS you might own is also a major plus.

Thanks for your comment, Adar. The suction cup is really impressive.. I like finding new places to mount it.

I commute about 25 miles in the city to work and found the ExoMount to come in handy. I turn on Car Panel, go to Maps, turn on Traffic and hit the locator button in the top right till you get the compass view. So as I'm driving it locks onto my location and I have a good view ahead of traffic. Has saved me a few traffic jams.

Thanks to you Gearhead, and your post I am also awaiting mine, if you hadn't posted I may have not noticed this particular one, this is exactly what I have been looking for as it is for almost any phone, which is nice, as we all change our phones so often and having to change accessories all the time over and over again can get expensive, especially with the times. ;)

first of all, this thing is the tots! It held to my dash for about 45 mins lastnight when i was playing around and again on my way to work without any signs of failing. I have a tacoma and my dash is not smooth and it sticks just fine. We will see where it goes from here. I go tit from amazon with free shipping and got it in 2 days. So far i am loving this. It holds mu evo in my convert case which is bulky with no problems. Will report back in a few days with updates
