ok guys for those of you who want voice to text on gingerbread. this is the latest rooted ota that is supposed to fix it. so here it is and this is not mine:

    [ROM][STOCK][Rooted] 4.53.651.1 - Odexed & De-Odexed - xda-developers

    HTC EVO 4G Software Update - 4.53.651.1

    Enhancements/Fixes:

    - Integrated voice recognition accuracy with voice search and voice-to-text

    - Image size issue with contact transfer over bluetooth

    - Images cut off in Picasa

    - Group contacts not in alphabetical order

    - Out of memory, Unable to send SMS

My noob iness is showing I know but...

Is this the new, rooted version 'stock rom'?

How does one go about using this, exactly? I am thinking that maybe I could flash this rom, the deodexed version, then make a backup of the voice search apk, then revert to the nandroid of M3D b, and uninstall the current voice search and then install my newly fixed backup version.

Is that the proper course of action to get the fix onto a different rom?

I am not sure that that would work though you can try it and report back. Just make a nandroid backup first of your working setup. This is the stock rooted rom based on the current release. It is exactly the same as the OTA except they added Busybox and Superuser to allow root only apps to run.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was wondering if that were the case or it was just like a mod you could flash to ur rom.

I think I'll give it a shot, might be a while before someone incorporates it into a specific rom otherwise, I guess. I'll let you know.

I am going to at least install the rom and see if the fix actually works, but as i think about it, I think it is fairly doubtful the fix is in the voice search app itself, more likely it is hidden away somewhere else in the code. Any thoughts on this?

it is possible that it could be somewhere else but not entirely sure. if it was just the app then i'm sure the devs would have found it and fixed it. i would just wait until the devs cook the fix into their roms. it should be soon that we will see it incorporated in. but i know some people here really use this feature a lot. so maybe this rom can tie them over until they start to come out.

Well, got to get my flash on anyway, huh? :p

I forgot what the heck the stock rom looks like anyway.

Well, the voice search while driving test went fairly well. Got sidetracked, stopped to see if I could find a faster sd card...

I need to try it with someone else doing the driving, seems to work about 75% of the time, which is a good 60% better than it was before. could be some problem with my earbud and mic, works better without it.

I am pretty pleased. Had to use titanium to copy the ap, don't know what results restoring it to custom rom will have. I'll let you know when I do.

Well, it looks like the rooted didn't get this before the masses. But it was a 'lesser' update. And we were all too busy flashing Evo3D ports. ;)
I would like to add that I unrooted my evo and then install the update 4.53.651.1. Today I was able to try it. I was going about 60 mph radio turn on A/C on and I was able to voice to text:eek:.
I am so happy. Now waiting for MIKG 2.5 to update built software. I regret removing MIKG 2.5 but I needed the voice to text pretty bad.

I heard that! :D It really comes in handy!

Why did you have to unroot though? couldn't you just flash the rooted stock ota rom?
