A few guys over at XDA have put up rooted version of the update. They're not based on the RUU, but rather, someone who did the OTA, did a factory wipe, then did a Nandroid. This doesn't give you the cleanest boot/system img files, but it's better than nothing. So, if you want to try it out, had over to XDA's Incredible Development section.

I won't be updating my ROM until the RUU is out.

What features or advantages will the RUU have over the XDA rooted version of the update?

The way the made the ROM was as follows:

-one user downloaded the update and ran it on his S-OFF phone, giving him the official update, but also a way to re-root
-same user re-flashed a recovery, did a factory rest, then did a nandroid backup of the ROM
-Custom ROM was made from that nandroid backup

Realistically, I can't see any differences in the ROM between this and an RUU, but we've had people do this before with weird results (IE, RMK using the October leak and swearing up and down that it was the same as the November OTA, but it ended up having issues).

So, for the pure update, I'm waiting for the RUU so that I can work off of that. For everyone else, the current ROMs are fine.

So let me see if I have this correct...i should be able to use the XDA version and not lose root. Then when the RUU comes out, I can flash that. Is this correct?

I just uploaded my OTA file to multiupload.com for the guys at XDA. This is the pure file, I haven't run the update yet.

4.06.605.3 update is hitting phones as we type! - Page 7 - xda-developers

They are comparing it to what they already had, so we should know soon if there are any differences.

Todd

Thanks!! I got impatient and decided to just flash it over the stock unrooted 2.2 rom just to see what would happen. I kept s-off, flashed CWM, factory reset, did a nandroid, ran thru the UOT kitchen, and then flashed that back to my phone.

Well 2 actually... Hard telling how many people got it that dont belong to forums.....

I understand that. Just seems odd to me that out of all the people on here only 2 got it. Knowing how bad everyone has been wanting and waiting if I had gotten it I'd be posting it on here right away. I dunno.....still just seems odd to me only 2 on here.

I can verify that it has landed. We used an OTA update to do a clean nandroid. Our current ROMs are based off that Nandroid. Trust me, I am 100% certain that the update has rolled out to some.

Is there any way to take the update file linked on XDA, rename it to update.zip move it to your phone, then boot with volume down pressed (the HBOOT route) like the Froyo update?

Are you rooted? Edit: Name it update not update.zip and boot through hboot. If when it comes up with the sd checking stuff, if it says update gift it did find it and should install. Report back good or bad. I tried using it with something else and it did that for me so try it and report back.

Worst case, run the RUU. Found in the un-root thread.

Well ive ran the PB31IMG RUU before. Version older, update fail.
Ive tried the computer version RUU and always says USB Connection Error. USB Debugging enabled. I really don't get it. Is the RUU in the unroot thread different from the ones above from Doug Piston?

Edit: Just tried both, nothing new. Help!! :/

Only a tiny fraction of users are members here. And most of them are not very active here, and most of the very active ones are rooted/romed. Since verizon probably upstaged a small percentage of incredibles so far, very few members will have gotten updates and posted about it.
