I've had my Incredible since it first launched and still love it. I remember being on this forum when Froyo came out and all the problems that came along with it, draining battery, google maps draining your battery and charger not giving enough charge, soo many diff problems came with it. For me, I had to end up doing a full factory reset and then all was great with Froyo.

I too find it odd that only 2 people have got the Gingerbread update, there are still ALOT of people on this forum that lurk (like me) that don't post alot but just read and STILL have their incredibles. I don't feel Verizon has pushed this out to very many people. I'm still stock my phone works perfectly. I'll report when I have it.

The last OTA I believe Verizon only sent it out to 1000 people as a test on the first day so its very probable only a couple people here got it. The next group to get it is usually a couple days later and is a larger batch. They took like over 2 weeks to get it sent out to everyone the last time.

I don't think either the .2 or .3 versions floating around are flashable. They have to be baked into a ROM.

This is the vzw ota .3 build, now heres something else i tried:
Moved update.zip (not update.zip.zip) to F: (SD Card).
Battery Pull (mine dont ever boot into hboot with a single power down)
Boot into recovery
It shows a green arrow icon (like after a system update) then moves to the phone and exclamation.
Volume UP and power button hold
Cant open /cache/ (whatever the folders were afterwards)
Hold it again
Reboot system
Apply update - selected
Wipe data
Wipe emmc
Invalid whatever, then reboots.

So, looks like im stuck on the .2 build? Actually, with the .3 ota build I have, how do I get it to where I can do Settings>About phone>System updates and have it detected?

Thanks for the anniv...didn't notice till you said it. :)

I remember getting Froyo and it was about 2 days after seeing numerous posters here saying they got it. I got it in the middle of the night because when I woke up at 6:00 am on a weekday, I was eating my cereal and I saw the update and did it while eating. I remember it taking about 10-15 mins for the complete update, but I don't remember how big the file was.

So Gingerbread is about 80 MB file? Is that larger than the Froyo OTA? I don't remember Froyo being that large. I just wonder if Gingerbread will require wifi for an update this large to load properly.

I got mine at 4am (Froyo) I work 3rd shift. I seem to remember Froyo being larger, like 95 mb.

Okay so I created an account to post on here. Thought I would join the fun! :) I haven't gotten an update and I didn't want to wait any longer so I downloaded from the link and installed on my stock phone. But of course it couldn't go painlessly. I hit the wipe phone instead of recovery so I had to re-install everything first then apply the update. Everything worked with the update and all I can say is it's pretty fast. The only annoyance so far is the optical trackball isn't quick like before. We shall see what the battery life is tomorrow.

gtswimmer, I did the same thing, and it turned out to be an incomplete OS. The UI is all wrong and the battery life is GARBAGE! I cant wait for the official release.

Are you rooted? Edit: Name it update not update.zip and boot through hboot. If when it comes up with the sd checking stuff, if it says update gift it did find it and should install. Report back good or bad. I tried using it with something else and it did that for me so try it and report back.

No, I am not rooted and this method did in fact work. I'm running some gingerbread! I did have to reinstall a few apps after update though.

App brain market
GPS Status
Daily Roads Voyager
Flight View Free
Dolphin Browser

There could be others, but those are the ones I had links to on one of my home screens and they came up as broken icons after the update.

However, the ONE thing I was hoping Gingerbread would fix is "application data space low" issue. Although it now says "Low on Space: Phone Storage Space is getting low". It came up within 5 minutes of the update. After clearing out some stuff (namely contacts storage), it came back again within a few minutes. I'm thinking this issue might be WORSE with gingerbread.

Please forgive me if this has been asked before.

I now run rooted Froyo stock ROM. All I did was remove some bloatware and installed a couple apps requiring root (Droidwall and Adblock)

What will happen if Verizon pushes new ROM to my device? Will I get notification? I know I shouldn't install it (if it is even possible on rooted device) because I will loose root.
