Software update

I see that the Nexus is getting an update date this week. Did they just shove the Eris under the bed with the rest of the dirt?

Those were to fix some major issues the phone was having. Not a OS update per say. And not to sound like an ass or anything, but hope you dont expect an update every time the Droid or the N1 gets one. Wont happen. Esp since Eris is on Big Red, they take longer to get their updates out as they test more than any other company I have seen. Its a good thing and a bad thing at the same time.

 I really appreciate all the smart ass comments. I merely was asking if HTC was giving up on our phone for newer phones that have better headlines in the media. The Nexus was supposed to get a bug fix but, they are getting more:

  • Google Googles will now be baked into the ROM.
  • Google Maps is being updated to sync starred items and search suggestions with the desktop version, and it automatically switches to night mode in Navigation to make it easier to read.
  • The aforementioned 3G fix.
  • And pinch-to-zoom. (Squee!) Yes, multitouch in the browser, gallery and maps.

Just refer to my second post. That'll explain why we're kinda left out in the dark for a little bit. We have a great phone, but it was overshadowed by the Droid when it was released. Too bad, though, it seems we got the better end of the deal. Granted, we can say that with certainty once our phones are rooted and we can mess around with the settings, but right now, we've got a solid foundation to work with. We wait for the root, and then we wait for 2.1. Not sure which one will come first, though it seems the root might.

If you don't know, the N1 is supposed to come to VZW, as well as Sprint, and AT&T. If you just bought this Eris and can return it, you may want to see if waiting for the N1 to come to VZW suits you, or if even a whole other carrier might be the remedy.

Until then, you're stuck with the features you've got. Google Goggles isn't just an N1 thing; it's 1.6 and above. They just have it integrated...or something...whatever that means. It really doesn't sound important.

Our updates will come soon enough. The Eris, admittedly, has the "red-headed brother of the Droid" moniker, suggesting it's neglected or "less-of-a-phone." It isn't. The N1 and the Droid just make more money for HTC, so they pamper them a bit more. It's strictly business. I'm sure HTC loves Gingers too.

Wait....they are only giving us a quarter of the update 1st? Or are they going to give us a quarter and tell us to put it in our asses because we played ourselves 1st? Orrrr they are going to give us a quarter 1st then.....?

I assume he is kidding.. :)

Nobody on here should say anything until after March 31st.. Then it is ok to complain about not getting the update..

The Droid is Motorola, so HTC shouldn't be getting anything from that.

The Nexus One just got some bug fix updates, about a month after the phone was released, just as the Eris did. They added Goggles and some features to the default install, yes, but perhaps they were meant to be included from the start but were not able to in order to meet the initial sale deadline.

Also, I'd think that it will be easier for HTC to provide updates to the Nexus One going forward, as they do not need to worry about including Sense and all of the apps with Sense in the update.

I'm glad you appreciate the comments! We are happy to deliver them. All kidding aside, you are completely overreacting to the Nexus update. The Eris has already received not one, but two updates. Those are minor updates, and the Eris already has pinch-to-zoom. Nobody has forgotten about the Eris.

This thread is PROOF that the Androids From Beyond (guys who issue updates, upgrades and OTAs) are trying to set us all off against one another; they are subverting from within.. and stuff.

Once we're all fighting each other, they'll come and take our children, cars and beer.

Be patient. Be strong. WE CAN BEAT THEM!
There's no question there's a conspiracy. We are Android Truthers, we seek the truth about updates that weren't promised when we bought the phone and we are simply unwilling to wait until March 31st! Action now! Yes we can! Yes we can!
