Samsung Epic 4G Touch Review - Watch CNET's Video Review

Looks like it anyway, or at least some way scaled back version of TouchWiz. Either way, not nearly as skinned as in the other videos floating around. Is this probably because she's got a pre-production version of the phone? Or someone snuck on an alt home screen app during the launch event??

There's no way to dislodge TouchWiz w/out root or a replacement launcher app, right??

Interesting :)

It was just a Sprint ID or Launcher running. Don't get to excited. There were still TouchWiz 4 widgets on the other home screens lol. If you notice the native Gingerbread launcher cannot replace the two dock icons. The one in the video had a Sprint ID icon on the left hand side where the browser icon used to be. Sprint ID is a skin but mocks stock layout. All in all, nothing to see. This phone comes with Sprint ID and a lot of other Sprint apps. I wonder if we will get to remove them like the HTC Evo 3D.

Gotcha, I didn't know that's what Sprint ID was. Oh well, I'd probably put Launcher Pro or some such on anyway.

I'm gonna try Touchwiz 4.0 for a week or so and see how I like it. I have already bought LP+ so I can easily install and change it... but TW4 looks interesting enough to try it for a bit. It'll probably take the developers a week or so to gain root and get some ROM's in the mix anyway :)

+1 I feel the same, from all the vids I've seen of it in action, I like the UI better than Sense 3.0 (besides the lock screen)

I also want to try it out. I actually like the look and functionality it comes with. I played with a friend of mines SGSII. I really liked the way the UI functioned. Very sweet looking. I love the native Email app as well. It has a tablet feel to it. You can look at the list of emails while focused on one email on the right hand side of the screen in landscape mode. I will probably use that one native email app for several accounts. I also like the photo widget they have and it changes every so often. I'm sure it's a setting with time intervals. The re-sizing of widgets are pretty cool to. It just looks sharp and clean.

Regardless of past issues and the Apple hating gang, Samsung is the most innovative Manufacturer in my opinion and I really hope they make the Nexus line from here on out. I lost my love with HTC. Sense is becoming bloaty. It's one thing to have a lot of functionality that matters and are pretty neat, but Sense is just rehashing what was there but in a different way and making more options of what was there before, so duplicates? The leak of Sense 3.5 looked less attractive from what it already was. Their widgets take up the entire screen now. The HTC Hero days was when Sense was new and something to go against IOS. Now Sammy, they bring sexy with power in several categories. This phone should last a customer their entire Contract. If anything, I can understand wanting the Nexus 3 since it's first on everything as far as updates and probably better specs in some areas. Also, rumored to be made by Samsung :). I'm sure we can get a port to other phones including the UK and US versions of the SGSII.

I can't say no to this phone. I was going to skip this and see how Google will play out the launching system for the next Nexus phone. I guess I'll have this and play with IC on my Nexus S 4G (current phone) and debate to trade it in for a Nexus 3 or whatever they call it.

Weird thing is, I upgraded to a NS4G earlier this year, not even 6 months ago. I say April or May is when I picked me up a NS4G. For whatever reason I am still eligible for an upgrade as if I had this phone for a year or two (depending on your status. I am a Gold member, so a year for me). Still, I shouldn't be able to upgrade in the same year I already did. Just makes it easier to get the Epic Touch 4G :). I doubt it will cross over when the Nexus 3 comes out, so I will dish out the money for that one, hoping Google will push it out to several carriers in a timely manner. I can dig it if it's all in the same month but not the same day. In a perfect world it would happen on the same day on every carrier for 199 lol.

Agreed, TouchWiz does look pretty slick on this phone. I'm sure I'll give it a fair shake before replacing it :)

I too think Sense is going the wrong way. Its starting to get a bit too "cute" If i were to be heading to another HTC phone, Sense would definately be coming off.
Wow I totally agree with the both of you. I use to love sense. Now I really dont like the direction they're going. It's a bummer because I love HTC. Touchwiz 4.0 on the other hand.....I'm really growing to like it. The Epic Touch will easily be Sprint's best phone. Now do I get this or wait for the Prime?

Really hard choice. I'm going to be greedy and get both, only becauase I have an upgrade.

Cool, i like that wallpaper. What are the better ones called?

I actually don't know because I'm using my Moment because my Epic is a goner (RIP) and not a lot of live wallpapers come up in my market. But if you have a phone with live wallpapers you could search up "Nexus Live Wallpaper" and the one I used had an icon with an ugly looking duck in an egg shell (I didn't understand why). You could change how many lines go across the screen, how long the trail was, what different colors appear, etc.

Okay, I looked it up on my mother's Epic and the 2 I used was "NexusKang Live Wallpaper" & "Nexus Revamped Live Wallpaper". Hope this helps when you finally arrive in the Wonderful World of Android :D (And I am so sorry for your suffering :( )

Even though this screen resolution is lower then the hd ones, is their a big difference since its super amoled plus?

The colors on the GS2 will be much more vibrant, but images on another phone such as the Photon will be sharper. You should go into the sprint store and compare the screens. The screen of the Nexus S 4G will be similar in color to the GS2.

If you are like me you will prefer the vivid color over higher resolution.

I've seen them all. Nothing in depth like you said. I even look at the at&t version now just because it's similar for my craving fix. Not to long.

Haha the funny thing is I JUST got done watching the same old hands on videos from the conference that I've seen a thousand times for my ET4G fix and looking to see if there's something I missed (there wasn't :()
