Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

So how is the 31 compared to the 25? I'm only interested in changing due to the headset fix but seems like upgrading always causes a lot of issues...
Head set fix does work, you now can carry on a conversation with it plugged in. As far as update problems are you using asopCWMod Recovery? It seems to have resolved the problems that I was having with updating. I also wait to download the theme until I have a couple of reboots on the update.

It should, but I have received reports indicating you may have to run the setup scripts after each new flash.

First off let me say thanks for all the hard work and this ROM looks great. I flashed it yesterday and spent a long time reloading my apps and linking them with link2sd. I decided I did not want the Green Machine Theme so today I wiped the cache and Dalvik cache and reflashed the ROM and gapps and noticed all my apps (linked) were missing. I then saw this post.

My questions are where are the setup scripts mentioned and how do you run them so I can see my apps again? I will keep searching and looking through this thread but so far I haven't found the answer. Thanks again for your help and all the work.

EDIT: Never mind - brain fart on my part. I opened Link2SD and it ran the script, I rebooted and my apps are back. Thanks.

EDIT 2: Not all my apps came back. About 80 apps did not appear after running the script in Link2SD but about that same amount did reappear. The missing apps showed as uninstalled in Titanium Backup but when I tried to restore from a backup it would go into an endless loop and I would have to go to Manage Applications and Force Close TB. I reflashed the ROM and gapps after doing the wipes and same results with the same apps. I then restored a ClockworkMod backup from last night - same thing. I went ahead and reflashed the ROM (without the Green Machine Theme) using the wipes and the formats and I will reinstall all the apps from TB again. Has anyone else seen this? It looked like a bunch of the apps were in the list under Manage Applications but listed as com.XXX.XXX and so on without the icons.

yea i figured that they were just temporarily down, thanks for confirming that they are back up and running though.

annnd the update.zip that can be created with TB, does nothing as far as i know. cant install it.

since mediafire is back up, im going to install 8/31 build, and flash the asop recovery (cant get blarfs recovery to install for some reason).

Is there a way to uninstall the green machine theme without having to go through the hassle of reflashing the rom and restoring all apps?

You don't have to restore apps, just wipe cache and reflash the ROM. ;)

Though I have tried links2sd and data2ext, I don't use anything but the built in CM7 apps2sd function. You will have to ask in the links2sd forum thread at xda. Sorry I can't help more.

I have a workaround for needing more space for apps, you may or may not think it's worth the trouble, it seems to me like less trouble than implementing any of the 2sd scripts. I go through my apps and determine the ones I use once a week or less often. Those apps I backup with TitaniumBackup and then uninstall till needed. I used to have close to 200 apps actively installed on my phone, now I have just over 100, and I could probably get by with less than 80 of those. By making good use of TB's backup/restore abilities, you can have virtually unlimited app space, once you think about how often you use certain apps.

Edit: Though I use TitaniumBackup, there are other backup apps available that people swear by, check them out in the market. ;)

I've been using link for quite a while now it was the original reason I rooted, I have never been able to get it to work without doing a full format and restore the apps through titanium. The issue your explaining always happens no matter the rom. So every update or rom change you need to format and restore you're apps with titanium. Just restore link first then run link mount the partition and reboot then restore the rest of your apps.

so I had a question about overclocking. Is it better to have it at 120 as min or 480? Does it actually go down to 120 when you aren't using it to save battery life? I think someone said the optimus v isn't able to downclock that low so 480 is best?

480 because it runs better the further apart the longer it takes to get up to speed and can kind of stall out. Like a car is easier to go from 45 to 60 than from 0 to 60. As for battery no one has been able to show a notable effect on the battery life from the clocking.

So what's yours at? 480 to what? I've tried 787 and the phone crashes on me at times =[

I have mine at 480low and 806high, on performance, I used to use smartass instead, but I read somewhere that overclocking does not affect battery life. (Still doubt that, but that's just me)
not sure what the best would be, I seem to get fairly good battery life with what I have mine set to, usually about 7-9 if not more, hours, then again, I have 2 extra spare batteries that I purchased on Amazon for 15$ (for both). So if my phone dies, I just pop another battery in, and I have another 7plus hours.

And that's with moderate to heavy phone use, rarely my phone is just sitting in my pocket.

I did some benchmark testing and 768MHz,787MHz max-480MHz min was where This ROM got the best all around performance. It also gets the best battery off charge time and the battery seems to run cooler. The min. is also where the phone idles and anything over 480MHz min. might make the battery run hot and drain faster.

These phones are so strange no one CPU is the same so you just have to test it I personally 748 and 480. If your getting allot of crashes try turning it down. I also use interactive.
When you installed the update did you install the theme with the ROM and Gapps? Are you using asopCWMod recovery? I've gotten better installations of the updates using asop recovery and waiting to install the theme after a couple of reboots of the update. When I used to have minor performance problems,I now have none. You should then be able to overclock in this ROM's sweet spot.

Thanks, though the speed from my optimus is much slower than the VM broadband2go device I used to own from the same location and presumably using the same 3G towers. And I haven't used enough to get throttled.
I know this is old, but I find it funny... in the same location, side-by-side, same pc, I got much better speed from my tethered optimus than the usb dongle.
And, my normal speed is under 100K/sec, all-time max around 600K, best average speed between 100-200K. Depends on time of day, weather, and probably everyone else's bandwidth usage in town, since I always get the same tower here.

@JerryScript
Thanks for the link, but how does one know if the screen is of the new variety before trying the ROM? If it's old stock, not sure what I would get with the modified ROM referred to in the xda link.
you can
Code:
adb shell dmesg | grep "novatek"
adb shell dmesg | grep "hitachi"
and see which it is.
Mine's a novatek, old phone screen. Hitachi is apparently the newer.

I don't use the theme and I use blarfs recovery.

@Jerry today I was trying to use vidtrim but I couldn't get it to work right because the vids are not saving as 3gp but as m4v. Is there a way to make it save as 3gp. I'm not site why the other extension causes problems but it will play no problem.

Blarfs recovery works on some "V"s,but not on others(did not wipe very well on mine), if you still have issues with the ROM then you might think about installing the recomended recovery for the new IHO-CM7 ROM's(asopCWMod recovery).

i was wondering if it was to mutch if you could make the following update compatible with the newer optimus v (2.2.2) .. im running on the VMU670-CM7.1-RC1-IHO-PURE-XIONIA .. but it has some bugs to it .. and i really miss the back side rom with out bugs ..

As soon as kernel.org is back up and running, we will put out a new build with the fixes for the newer screens.

Unfortunately, I borked my build environment the day after kernel.org was hacked, so I can't build from source till they are back online.

Does the Governor setting actually make a difference? Also, I set "Allow purging of assets", "Use JIT", and "Enable surface dithering" on. Does anyone else notice a difference with this setting on as well?

Governor does make a difference, but you have to be paying close attention to notice it. Interactive jumps straight to highest freq when coming out of idle, it's a bit more modern than ondemand, which basically does the same, but at a slower pace. Smartass is even newer, but may have some bugs still. Performance keeps it at max freq.

Also on the OV, 480 Mhz and below it runs at a lower voltage, and above it it runs at a higher voltage, so it's a good idea to not go above this for min freq, as for max freq, it's up to user's preference and their chip stability.

Use JIT & allow purging of assets should be on, I uncheck enable surface dithering since I don't notice a difference and I prefer performance/battery saving over eye candy.

I'm trying out smartass now and I'm at 806 max at the moment. No crashes so far! -knocks on wood- It's pretty surprising since I would crash multiple times on 787 or even 768 at times. perhaps I should try 825? Do you know if there's a max that would actually be harmful for the CPU? o_O Don't want to risk frying it.. xD

i just tried out running at 825max today, used it as i normally would (heavy usage) and set on performance, no crashes, running smoothly, now im going to try running at 844 for a day, if it crashes, im going back to 825.
-EDIT- (after 10-15 seconds of posting lol)
going back to 825, running at 844 crashed when i tried using the camera, ran at 844 for less than a minute before i made my decision to safely assume that 825 is the highest that my phone will go. didnt take long to decide that lol

well highest would ultimately be 865, but i would only be able to use sms.. which is not o.k. with me, 825 is the highest that doesnt crash, no matter what im doing.
but then again thats my phone, and this rom, im sure that with another rom i could probably go higher than 825, but im not to worried about going higher, im satisfied at 825, hell thats 225MHz faster than stock, which is pretty good.
and again, the max speeds vary with each phone(and sometimes the rom) so some people may be able to go higher, some slower.

Are you on smartass governor regularly or always on performance? Oh and I tried 825 max on performance then ran Quadrant Advanced.. crashed in the middle of testing >_< 806 max performance ran through testing at least.. So I'm assuming that's my phone's limit =[ Have you tried running quadrant while on your 825 max performance setting? TRY IT TRY IT xD and share your score! It shall be spectacular I would imagine haha :D
