Hey Everyone,
i am new to the forums as well as android. I got my HTC from sprint not even a week ago, and when its working properly i absolutely love it. This is a multiple part question/problems.
My HTC worked flawlessly for a couple days and i think around 3-4 days ago when receiving a picture message it wouldnt automatically show up and would display the download button, when hitting the download button it would say "unsuccesful download." every once in a while one would get through. I was on the sprint forum and others are experiencing it. I downloaded both ChompSMS and Handcent and it happens with those as well. I have tried battery pulls, soft restarts, deleteing all messages, task killers.... I brought it to sprint and they were going to do a hard reset, than the guy said he was talking to someone and sprint and they said this effects 1/4 phones, so now they are sending me a new (refurb) phone on friday, cant say i am happy about this but i guess i have no choice. The guy at sprint also told me i had a lot of crap on my phone (apps) and shouldnt download so much, isnt that the point of these phones? My internal space is 75mb.
the stock text program was sorting the messages out of order, for example i would respond to someone and they would respond to me a minute later and it would show up above my previous response. I downloaded Chomp but found it to be to slow to open, and switch conversations. Handcent seams better but then was sending double messages and all of a sudden i was getting an error message
"9230: Message sent using invalid number of digits. Please resend using 10 digit number or valid shortcut code. Msg 2114"
the weird thing is i texted these people before with no problem, i confirmed that they did not receive the message. i then edited the contact to include the zip and went into my previous conversation and it said it again, but they said they are now receiving them. Anyone else experiencing this?
I was also getting texting lag, i took the sticky post advice and disabled vibration and sounds from keyboard and so far so good.
I have a lot of space left, i did have a bunch of apps but cleaned up the ones i wouldnt use. I also had task killers and since removed them because i read from some people using them they could be the cause of the initial problems by killing functions that i shouldnt have. Is there any truth to this? I just dont like how sprint Navigation and other apps i never opened were being run in the background.
I have read somethings on rooting the phone, it is my understanding that it will give you more access and allow you to remove preloaded sprint apps, and allow you more control. Are there any risks in doing this? will it void warranties?
as i said, i absolutely love this phone, but i am a HUGE texter and its just embarassing saying please email me that picture, or "did you get this message." I talk on the phone maybe 30 minutes a month but send thousands of messages. Also, is there a way to say, only keep 50 messages per person or an easy way to clear texts? i deleted a conversation i had with my buddy, several hundred messages and it took a couple minutes.
Did i just get a bum phone?
Please any help/advice will be appreciated.
