I have a Samsung prevail ...as most of u know it comes with a 2gb SD card. Now it recently has been telling me that phone storage is low. I have about 400 pictures and a handful of background downloaded (8 in total). Only about 12 Alps downloaded, not including the ones that came with phone. I figured I'd delete some Alps and upgrade my SD card to an 8gb. Did that and still am having issues with phone memory. Need HELP ASAP. Any suggestions on what to do? The apps I've downloaded I do utilize and would love to be able to get back..any suggestions or advice I would greatly appreciate

without any modifications or rooting your phone you can go to
settings>applications>manage applications
there you can choose from your list of installed apps and select 'move to sd card' for some. not all apps can be moved by this method.
a portion of your app will then be moved to a folder on your sd card and that will give you some more space
this is the safest, easiest way and it keeps your warranty intact

rooted phones have more options like link2sd or a2sd
if you decide you need more room than the standard method gives you, i suggest you read up on these two and decide if one of them is for you.

unless you're using one of these three methods, your sd card has nothing to do with internal phone storage

if you can get enough free space with the built in method, you don't need root

if you want to use linking methods like link2sd or a2sd you need root
if you need more internal storage but don't want to uninstall any apps, you need root
if you want to move apps to system with root explorer or any other app you need root

that's an indicator for the settings>applications>manage section. just gives the heads up on froyo-movable apps.

Uhhh? yep your right. I never noticed that section. So this thing just lets you know when a downloaded app is able to be put on your SD. I'm winging this thing as I recently got it and to be perfectly honest I'm always so busy I never even opened the instruction book for it, the book is still brand new in the sealed package. I just explore when I have time and log on the web and search for info and learn this phone as I go.

...the Samsung Prevail?
My issue is I have an 8 GB microsd card, but hardly any apps can be saved to it. My internal memory is all but gone. I deleted programs so I could run updates on my favorite apps, but I keep getting the message that there is insufficient internal memory. Now, i have programs that can't be used.

What are my options? Root the phone? I've never done that before. :afraid:
Other options?
Thanks for any help with this.

Search button strikes again! This thread was from september 2011, everything here is old. Rooting isn't that hard, check my sig or go look around:
