I recently bought an Evo off Craig's list and it was rooted. I took it to sprint to get it activated and the technician who i know personally couldn't get it to activate, because i guess my Evo was rooted with a Nexus cyanogen mod and the codes wouldn't work. He told me to Google it and find a tutorial on how to unroot the phone. I found a few tutorials and tried one on youtube. This unrooted my phone and then it was stuck at the HTC EVO 4G screen for over 5 minutes. I just walked away and probably after about 15 minuted it booted up normally. Then the battery died shortly after. For some reason which i think is unrelated my battery shit the bed and wont charge. I went to Sprint and got a new battery and now its charging and he couldn't get the phone to boot up either. I have tried recovery mode which just sends me back to the HTC EVO 4G screen. I'm very new to this whole android thing. I just want my phone to function normally. I'm extremely computer savy and with some explaining i will pick up on it fast. And help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ok so power off or pull the battery. press and hold power+vol down. this will get you to the hboot (bootloader screen). what is your hboot? also try and select recovery from the hboot screen. what happens when you do?

ok download this file:
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radi..zip

rename the file by deleting everything but PC36IMG in the name. also do not add any extra .zip to the name as windows hides extnesions.

move the file to the card. do not put it in any folder.

go into hboot. if it is named correctly and if it is in the right place, hboot should see it and it will ask you to update select yes. and you should be good to go.

well the white screen(splash screen) is normal. how long does it stay on it?
well I got my phone working but it takes around 6 minutes to boot up... and I downloaded the latest update but when I install it powers off, powers on starts booting up, then boots up again. It finally loads then asks ne if i want to install the system.update like I had never clicked it in the first place.

so are you saying, that it updates and reboots and then asks you to update again? you might have to delete the file that is on your card.

just so you know for the future if you get another phone and you want to root it. never accept an ota update, especially if you are rooted. now i now that you are unrooted. but, even if you plan to root, do not accept the ota. what happens is that the manufacturer usually will update the hboot which will close the previous exploit so that rooting is not possible and you will have to wait until the devs can find a way to root your phone again.

fortunately for you the latest update does not close the exploit so that revolutionary will still work for your phone.

I never wanted my phone rooted. I dont need the functionality of a rooted phone it just so happens that i bought it that way. When i try to install the update it powers down to install the update and then starts to reboot and after about 5 minutes, the phone vibrates and the screen comes back up for another 5 minutes then boots normally and asks me to do the same step i just did. (do you want to install the system update?) And i currently don't even have the SD card in the phone. Im hoping that this update will make my phone boot up faster than 5 minutes...

What is the current version i should be at? and will it go to like 2.23 and stuff like that? so keep doing that and see if the version changes slightly?

i believe that froyo 2.2 is software 3.70 and the ginegerbread 2.3.3 software numbers are 4.22.651.2, 4.24.651.1 and 4.53.651.1. so depending on what your software number is it might need to update a few times to get it to that number.

This phone is a piece of shit... everything was going fine it was working i activated it today and had it on the charger and then it just died. No orange charge light or anything. Im guessing another battery shit the bed. Im about to just cut my losses at this point. I got the insurance today when i activated it. So i think im gonna not use my other phone and go to sprint and see if they can do anything because of the insurance. The root is off so you never know. I also have a in with one of the technicians there.
