I just received my Seidio dock in the mail and it's so freakin rock solid I'm in love :)

BUT now I want the bluetooth to automatically turn on when it's docked.

I did a search here and the only thing I found was to buy Locale - and as of late the reviews are less than stellar for a $10 app.

Anything new out there I should know about?

Developers help me out :)

Setting Profiles can do that. The full app is $2.95 but you can test it with the lite version. Just create a rule for "battery" "connected to charger".

Your welcome. I use the Seidio dock at work and a ProClip dock in my Jeep and it works great on both, I just wish it (and the android OS) would allow me to turn on GPS too.

note on the Seido.... after about a month my first on stopped charging the phone. I e-mailed support and they shipped out a new one pronto

Toggle settings! Greatest app. Set it up pretty advanced on day one and it basically does automatic profile and I never worry about it. works great. Let me know what you think.
Just to elaborate a bit, there are rules in Toggle Settings and you can set a rule to go off when it is docked in car dock or desk dock. You can also have rules for time of day, charging, battery percentage, turning on GPS, and a bunch more.

It also is capable of giving you access to toggle just about everything from the notification bar. When i say everything: screen orientation, time-out, ringer mode/type, bluetooth, wifi, screen brightness, screen lock, and a LOT more :)

looks cool but some of the latest reviews weren't great.

I installed Toggle Settings but I don't see an option to enable Bluetooth when in car dock mode. Anyone?

its in Rules, new rule.. and then you select docked.. you can pick between desk dock and car dock.. at least for droid.. I assume it works for others as well.

@ MtnbikerChk.. and as for complaints I've had none really.. it works great for me.. I don't know what the recent reviews say about toggle setting.. try it for yourself :)

I may have to install it again but when I had it installed I found that it was causing my built in power widget to not enable/disable Bluetooth from the power bar. I'm sure there's probably a setting somewhere so I will install it again now that I know how to enable auto Bluetooth when in the car dock. Thanks.

...Rules are greyed out so does this mean I need to a paid version to set a rule to activate a dock/bluetooth rule?
in CUSTOm you have to check profiles. then RULES are enabled.. You set a rule.. like when GPS is turned on, headset is plugged in or in dock.. and the RULE will activate a profile.. so in the profile just add the buetooth setting.

I personally have a travel profile (when GPS is on) a music profile (when headphones in) home profile for defualt and a low baterry profile AND a work profile (activated at certain times)

I have a Sprint Hero there is no difference between plugged in and Docked in car.

Is there really a difference anyway? when my phone is "docked" at my desk or my car it's plugged in so the same profile applies

some phones, such as droid has DOCKS that are activaterd by magnet or something else. Usually a specific dock will auromatically open a specific program for these phones such as "car home" or "multimedia dock" So in that sense yes there is a difference if that program can uses the "dock" intent listener

Got it. Thanks!

So there is no difference between car dock and home dock then? Bummer. I want my BT to come on when it's in the car dock but not the home dock. Not the end of the world I guess but it would be nice.

My only question is if it will still recognize that it's docked when I root the phone & 86 the car mode screen. Guess there's only one way to figure it out since I doubt anyone in this thread knows the answer.

Scratch that. I see now when you create a new rule there's a second step to specify car dock or home dock. Now where is the option to enable BT or do I create a new profile w/BT enabled to link this to?

Toggle Settings to me is a bit bloated and does more than I would want a profiles app to do. Auto killing tasks, and not being able to disable such behavior, to me is outside the scope of a settings application.

That said, to the OP, another app to try is "Setting Profiles." It can also toggle GPS and AutoSync, along with BT, WiFi, etc like the others, and it can do it automatically based on rules you define or manually by selecting a profile. It is the most similar to Locale than any other app I've tried.

Ok, I'm starting to figure this app out now. You adjust the profiles and remove things you don't want adjusted and then link a rule to a profile. Perfect. As long as this does what I told it to do this app is exactly what I was looking for.

Huh? As long as you don't add any tasks to autokill it won't kill anything. Set it to once a day since there is no 'off' and it will only poll once a day so it shouldn't drain any battery while checking the list which is empty anyway.

For those with Setting Profiles - how does it tax on the battery with GPS location, and how accurate is it?
Example - I go to college, and it should pick up within 2 miles when I am near center of campus, cool. If I lose GPS signal whille IN "School" profile, will it still stay in this profile and silent or will it go back to another profile, possibly ringing in class then.
THANKS!!

So now I think I've got it all set up and have tested some and so far so good. Long term testing will still be needed but I like this so far. Only issues I've seen are sometimes when removing from a dock the Toggle Settings screen will pop up and not go away. Not a huge deal and only happened a couple of times.

Can anyone tell me why I can add Bluetooth as an option to my profiles but the GPS option is greyed out? When I dock the phone in my car I would like both BT and GPS to both enable.

It doesn't use GPS for location determination. Only wifi and cell towers.

Yes that is a work around, good point. But it still remains that I can't disable the feature all together if I wanted to.

the way google set up the system just about NOTHING other than what is stock can TOGGLE gps on or off. if you look up widgets and other things in the market place the best they can really do is take you to the menu where you turn GPS on or off.

My solution was to create GPS as my rule (I don't have car dock) so basically i turn GPS on and I have that as my rule to trigger a profile.

Hmm untrue. Setting Profiles can check/uncheck GPS. It's the first app I've found that can do it.

It also has a widget for changing profiles quickly, so a workaround for not having a widget on the homescreen to toggle GPS could be create a profile that only turns GPS on (and I guess one to turn it off), then you can 2 tap turn on GPS, and even have it turn on only for certain amount of time.
