Anybody leave Verizon for Sprint?

Ok I was wondering for those of you out there that have Sprint and had had Verizon, have you had any issues? After numerous problems and discussions with Verizon Cust Serv after being a customer for 8 years I'm going to call it quits with Big Red...

What experiences have you guys had with Sprint's service I was looking at their coverage map and it kicks butt for Chicago where I'm at currently and Nashville where I reside...but does that represent as a whole Sprint??? Most of the areas I travel to are STL, Florida, Memphis, Chicago, and Texas...so anybody out there shout out about your service please..

Bottom line is it worth the switch for me? I was looking at the 450 min unlimited data unlimited text plan, the exact same I had with Verizon except 40$ a month cheaper!!

well, I didnt technically leave Verizon for Sprint... however a couple years ago I got a line on Verizon to see what all the "buzz" was about. I soon realized that Verizon was not "better enough" to justify the significant price hike of switching to Verizon. Therefore, I canceled my VZW line, and have kept my 3 lines on Sprint. Definitely been happy with Sprints service over the last decade I've been with them.

And yes, that Everything 450 plan you mention is definitely a good deal.


EDIT: PS. if you decide to do it, Sprint will give you $125 for each phone line you port in from another carrier. www.sprint.com/switchtosprint The catch is you've gotta buy your phone directly from Sprint and fill out the info on the link within 72 hours. Thanks that does it for me if they'll GIVE me $125?!?!?! That's enough for me to basically get the phone I want for only 75$!!! Plus it's 40$ cheaper yeah that's money, talking to people at work they have no problems with sprint, I'm going to talk to a rep tom...

My main concern was service, but if you guys have no problem with it I doubt I will either...

well, they dont hand you 125 in cash... after you have had Sprint service for 61 days they will credit your account 125 dollars. (Remember, you've gotta buy the phone directly from Sprint, too; either from sprint.com or a Sprint store.) Will work out to about a month and a half of free service in your case. Just make sure you go to the website and fill out the info within 72 hours of porting your Verizon number. And yea, if you've already talked to people in your area/at your work who use Sprint.. I'd say you're good to go... that is the most important part, IMO. So, that being said, I'd say go for it.

Ya I know but 3/4 free months is as good as cash plus the amount I'm saving month by month yeah that'll add up to some nice toys over the year...maybe I'll even take the gf on a cruise, maybe ;-)

I didn't technically leave Verizon for Sprint. I did consider going to Verizon because I have a friend who works for them and she kept bugging me about changing over to "the best network." I let her work out the numbers for my five lines and she didn't even come close to the rates offered by Sprint for the services we receive. We are on the 1500 minute unlimited data and text family share plan. I do not have to constantly monitor usage to keep from going over. Verizon and Sprint service here in Nashville is the same so I saw no advantage in switching so I stayed with Sprint. If you can receive the same then I say save that $40 a month and get that port credit.

I switched directly from Verizon to Sprint. After getting fed up with their horrible customer service, I had enough and switched to Sprint. And honestly, I don't regret it at all. Verizon customer service absolutely refused to help resolve problems without somehow squeezing more money out of me, and Sprint, on the other hand, had a history of giving away a couple free phones to people on my plan just for having to go through the hassle of whatever issue we had with the phones. With Verizon, the only nice people I ever talked to was 1) sales rep. who sold me the phone (of course), and 2) when I called up to cancel my plan they were all buddy buddy wanting to help me fix my issues. Granted this was over a year ago, but in reality, Sprint > Verizon.

My family has been on Sprint for five years and never had any troubles until lately. So it appears Sprint is having some troubles in our area. But this sucks for me, I left Verizon because of how expensive they were. I have been considering AT&T as I will be only paying about 10 bucks more than I am now and that is still a lot cheaper than Verizon.

I am waiting hoping to have my issues with Sprint resolved. Currently though I am unhappy.

But it appears most are happy with the switch, so good luck to you, and hopefully I will be to.

I live basically smack dab in the middle of Omaha.

I had Sprint several years ago, and they screwed me over more than once. They sucked bigtime.

I was with Big Red for around 4 years. The bill just seemed to get higher and higher and I felt like I was in a rut. I opted to switch to U.S. Cellular, because they had a phone I sort of liked and a cheaper plan... HORRIBLE IDEA. At my owj house, where everyone I know on any carrier but USC got GREAT coverage... I could make and receive NO calls. It was a dead zone in my neighborhood... hell, my whole town. Dropped calls left and right... it was a mess. So, after only about a week and a half, I went over to Sprint. It was either Sprint, or the devil (AT&T). We don't have T-Mo here and I didn't want to go prepaid.

So far, *knock on wood*, I have had no problems. Great coverage, no dropped calls, and most of the employees have been personable.

The bill isn't awful. It's not great, but, if I want unlimited internet, I'll pay it.

Ok i left Big Red for Sprint...so far so good with the service I'm not disappointed, at the normal places where I'm at i don't roam so only time will tell but far as i can tell based on how it is for me currently i'll be happy with the service....

Same boat here- I left Verizon for Sprint to get the Evo. Yes, the plans are cheaper and Sprint has mobile to any mobile for free (letting you have a lower anytime minute plan), but Sprint's service where I live is horrible. If I want to use my phone, I have to get in my car and drive down the road, or it won't work. Its absolutely ridiculous. I've also been getting a ton of "network is busy" messages over the past couple of months when trying to make a call out- basically telling me there is too much traffic on Sprint's horrible network to place my call.

I'm switching back to Verizon as soon as I possibly can. I'm not at all happy with Sprint. Their tech support and customer service tells me something different each and every time I call them to complain about the lack of service I have. I had decent coverage when I started service in June of 2010. In December of 2010, something happened in the area that I live and everyone's towers shut down for a 5 second period of time and booted back up- since that point, I have had ZERO service at home. Complaining to Sprint does nothing.

Once the HTC Vigor lands, I'm done with Sprint. I'll pay $50 more a month to have service that I can actually use without having to drive somewhere to use my phone.

Hi! Go to the EVO section of this forum and check out the rooting section. There are a lot of detailed instructions on how to root and make tweaks for better performance and customization. As long as you do a lot of research on the front end and install any required software in advance you should be OK. There are a lot of cool, intelligent people who will be glad to introduce you to that world. You can modify as much or as little as you'd like. You can even just be rooted on stock if you want. Take your time and you will get more comfortable.

I may be leaving Sprint for Verizon. Been with Sprint all my life but the service in Philly has degraded a bit and I roam alot more. Sitting on an upgrade but waiting for the network vision update on Oct 7th and the Nexus Prime announcement on Oct 11th. The problem is that my two lines are on a family plan with my sister, in which I'll pay ~$55-60 when my two lines upgrade. With verizon it would be ~$80 or more per line. Hoping Sprint's conference is good to make me stay and save some money

I like Sprint. If you can get good coverage in your area, and if you are someone who is as active on the internet as me, Sprint is something you would seriously want to consider.

Previously I have had Helio, Cricket, AT&T, and briefly used a family member's T-Mobile phone. I will never again consider those companies and Verizon would have to make major plan option changes before I thought about them.

From personal experience, Sprint has had the best customer service and is not intimidating to deal with. I have a few dropped calls here and there but nothing like AT&T. And they work with you on things like on setting up a payment arrangement if you have a bad month financially.

The biggest win with Sprint, and the thing that makes Sprint the ONLY real choice for me is their data. The 4G in my area is good and so that's never a real issue, and they are the only carrier with truly unlimited data. A 2GB cap on "unlimited" data is a JOKE. I literally have used that much in a day. I have an EVO and I do a lot on it. I download apps. I download pictures. I stream YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and other TV apps I have. I download torrents like music, TV, eBooks, comics, etc. And I have never been capped.

Sprint has good phones, good perks, good service and with their plans you're getting a lot more for a lot less money than you'll find with any other carrier.

I left Verizon for Sprint and never looked back. Not only are the plans way cheaper, no lame data cap and the reception is on par. I should know as I drove cross country and back and used my Evo as a hotspot for my iPad and Macbook. Only place reception went out completely was the middle of nowhere in the New Mexico desert. Even at that, it only went out for about 10 minutes and came back on as we got closer to civilization.

In the Delmarva area I find coverage is about the same. Can't attest to data speeds between networks because I've only used Sprint data. However I find Sprint data is decent here. Only exception is when you go into the more rural areas away from highways and cities. In my home, my speeds are down to 1-200kbps. But I'm in farmland country. If I go 2 miles closer to the city, I get 1 mbps on 3G and 4G access (up to 7mbps).

I've been debating a plan on each carrier for about 6 months. I'm going to share a family plan with my brother and sister. Both brothers have Verizon and lobbied hard for me to go there, but the plans are really expensive. ($180 for 3 smartphones on Sprint vs. $220 on Verizon.) And the data caps are ridiculously low. I've used Virgin Mobile for years and they use the Sprint network (no roaming). I find speeds are comparable to Sprint service and coverage is good as long as you are within 15-20 miles of a highway.
