So i dropped my hero two days ago and i completely shattered the screen. I got a replacement today and i was thinking that i SHOULD buy a hard case for it because i obviously dont want this to happen again. Can anyone post a link to a website that has nice cases??

thanks

I picked up the bodyglove case and it works fine although it does add some bulk. I had one on my instinct for 2 years, wife has one on her crackberry and 12 y/o son has one on his instinct as well... lol we are hard on our phones so we need the extra protection.... I will get an otterbox as soon as its available though...

What do you all think is better the hard or a rubber/silicon case? To me it would be the rubber silicon case cause when you drop the phone the silicon can absorb the shock while a hard case absorbs nothng

It's all trade offs. I have a small collection of cases for my Hero and find each has pros and cons. For everyday use I use an Seidio Innocase II with their holster. It is really great. The Innocase is slim enough yet offers some degree of protection. The holster is well made and securely holds the Hero. The face-in design protects the screen and the Hero is easy to un-holster and re-holster.

I sometimes use a Sprint silicone case but it does not do well going into and out of the pockets of most garments. The silicone sticks and grabs the cloth. The big plus to me is that the silicone does seem to be a better shock absorber, as you suggest. I can tell you from experience after dropping my silicone cased Hero from chest height onto parking lot pavement with no damage twice, one time actually launching it pretty good, the silicone case save my phone. (I was getting out of the car in a hurry with the Hero in my hand and just sort of flung it. )

The Otterbox Commuter looks good and I'd be tempted to get one but what about a holster?

well to clear things up... the otterbox is both a hard and soft case... there is a silicon shell that wraps around the phone and then there is also a hard plastic shell that goes over it... I saw a few folks that had it and it honestly offers the best protection I have ever seen. it also plugs the open parts of your phone too... check out the spec sheet (pdf) of them and you will see what I mean.

I have the Sprint Silicone (2 pack, black and blue), and use a case designed for the Moment. When the Otterbox comes out, I hope it will fit.

I swore I would never put one of those rubber covers on my Hero. But honestly, I have and I like it alot. My wife has the rubber HTC OEM case and I think the 2 pack you are speaking about are nicer.

I am quite impressed with the Sprint 2-pack. They are about the same price as the eBay examples and you can have them in hand immediately. They aren't thin and floppy like some of those cheapo eBay/mall kiosk silicone sleeves. The Sprint ones are solid, fit perfectly, and don't slide off. Too bad they only have black/blue combos.

I'm still undecided. Did some research on the size differences between the cases I'm considering and thought I'd post the results. All the measurements other than the Otterbox were taken by forum member PGR (I 'borrowed' them from one of his threads) so kudos to him for perhaps making our decision a bit easier!

Bare phone: 4.465 x 2.225 x 0.556 inches
Body Glove: 4.643 x 2.405 x 0.804 inches
Innocase: 4.56 x 2.328 x 0.640 inches
Otterbox: 4.62 x 2.41 x .76 in. inches

Looks like the Innocase has the least bulk but what about protection?

The Body Glove looks to be the bulkiest overall.

Otterbox falls somewhere in between the two others in general. It's barely a bit wider that the Body Glove but that's probably including the cool rubberized volume controls cover. Plus I like that there are covers for the ports/jacks so crap doesn't get into them when not in use.

Edit: Should also mention that the Otterbox offers additional protection around the earpiece and covers the HTC and Sprint logos if that matters to anyone.
Could be interesting how the sound quality might be affected as a result. It's creating a nice little chamber of sorts for the earpiece that may cause the sound to be a bit more directional and also keeping it a bit further from the ear. I'm being entirely too anal about this...

You are being too anal, but I'm the same way so it's ok. :D I have the Innocase and like it alot. The only thing is that if you drop it the right way it will come apart and come off of the phone. I dropped mine by accident on a rug in my living room and this happened. Luckily the phone didn't have any damage on it. When the Otterbox comes out I'll probably be one of the first to order it. I had one on a blackberry years ago and they are indestructible and will not come apart if you drop them. I used to carry my phone in the holster but since I found Lock 2.0 I have no problem with carrying my phone in my pocket.
