Live streaming TV apps out there?

I think once Flash is available for Android phones...this will be a moot point, but..

Are there any sites out there that you may know of that streams live TV (news etc) without needing Flash? I've come across quite a few apps in the Marketplace that streams "pre-recorded" shows, and some are ok, but I'm looking for something that you can actually watch that isn't 2-3 days old.

I know Orb allows you to stream live TV, but that requires you to setup a "server" with a TV Tuner card in your PC..provided that you have a spare.

Any help, links etc is appreciated.

Sling and HAVA solutions are among the better solutions for streaming "TV" as they allow access to a DVR, along with DVD players.

TV.Com is in the App Market. I watched a full episode of Survivor on my Droid last night...Oops you meant LIVE TV...I am not sure of anything unless you had slingbox or something like that. There is an app we have in the market that you can watch live Basketball games...something like NBA ticket or something like that.

No, I understood your question, and I posted the most viable answer. I have Flash now, and there aren't many options available. You may want to search for WorldTV99, as some peope have that working...different platform however.

Maybe Orb? I have a computer with a TV card which with Orb streams the TV channels from my computer to the phone. I don't know if it uses flash playback or not, but it works for me. As far as Orb, I think the OP is trying to avoid having a TV card and keeping a PC on all the time. Sing/HAVA boxes are smaller, plug-n-play, use less power, and let you rewind/schedule recordings/view recorded content, all on the phone. It also eliminates the need for having Flash. Problem is, once you get Flash, there are some sites that require installation of additional plugins, or simply do not support "mobile OS".

I could be wrong, but I believe that both Sling and HAVA do not have a direct app for viewing live streaming TV (at least not yet) on the Android platform. In order to use either to view content on your phone, you will need to use a third party app such as ORB to access the feeds. I am not too sure how the streaming tv would look, quality-wise, using ORB though. With one of the HAVA products, you can do away with the need for the TV card, since it transmits the data wirelessly (again not sure how and/or if the quality suffers).

There are some apps which either have limited channels and/or data (which from my exploration is content I would not be interested in), or else charge an access fee (Jetflicks! TV looks promising, for $50/year). Again, not too sure how the content will look. The plus side on this is you would be able to access premium channel content which you may not have on your regular cable or dish subscription.

While it looks interesting (Monsoon Volcano), I guess I am slightly turned off by there being a monthly access fee associated with it. Yet, if the quality of the stream is that much better, than it is well worth it.

I would imagine the Sling App will be released when Flash is. They have stated Android will be the first to use a "Flash" version of the Sling App. Going forward, all Sling apps will be flash based (with exception to devices that already have the non-flash clients. They will continue to support those non flash clients)...

Again, I'm not clear on the "monthly fee" portion...I'm thinking it may be for the more advanced DVR features, given the "hard drive" and "Tivo-like features", on the "Pro" model. It seems out of line with the current "fee-less" options currently out for Sling and HAVA.
