I'm curious: who else is still using the Eris as their phone?

I haven't taken my Incredible 2 into the woods to check reception yet but I have noticed that the way I hold the phone can drop two bars. If you hold it normally it does worse. I'll have to check it away from a tower to see if that is a problem.

You should check Amazon to see if they think you are eligible for an upgrade. They will let you upgrade before Verizon will. Odd but true.

I'm more curious about signal strength than bars (settings->about phone, somewhere in there is signal strength in dBM.) It'd be useful compared with the Eris in the same place. I'm already used to holding the Eris only by the sides when I call anyway, so not holding it normally is ok by me, if that's what I need to do.

Oh, I'm eligible since August. Just waiting a bit until I'm sure of the phone I want. Sad that they all have one issue or another.

Was using my Eris up until a week ago when I upgraded to an Inc2 for $50. Overall I love the Inc2 but I do haveto agree that reception can be an issue at times when surfing. No dropped calls yet. Just mad that I took the 2.3.4 update before rooting. Now gotta wait until a new exploit is found.

I sold my wifes Eris for $100 (only thing extra was a hard case she got for free and a new screen protector that only costed me $1), 2 months back. With all the accessories I have for mine figured I might get $130 for it, maybe more.

I'm out in the woods at a place where my Eris had poor reception. I think the Incredible 2 is slightly better.

Right now I'm leaning toward the Bionic or the iPhone 5. I figure if I am paying that much, I want a phone that's as up to date as possible, but also has good reception and battery life. Maybe I'll wait for that Prime thing.

Weren't you interested in a world phone? The prime might be, but I don't think the bionic is.

I was; The Droid 3 is a world phone as well, but I think that it also has a poor radio (weird for a Motorola phone.) I've decided that I'm home a lot more than I'm away and I'd rather have a phone that works well at home than one that drops calls, etc.

If the Eris isn't driving you nuts you might as well wait. I don't use a full sized computer anymore so I really wanted a newer phone. And for a penny on an individual plan the Incredible 2 was worth using my upgrade on.

I've loved my Eris for almost 2 years but am getting ready to move on. I really like it's size (pocketability) and am dismayed at how large the new and upcoming phones are. I'm considering the Rhyme (such a great size and color) but am worried about two things:

1) I won't have tons of smart and helpful people on it's Android Forum since I'm assuming most smart techy people will be on the forums of more powerful "masculine" phones. I'll just have to decide if I can live with that. I did get a kick out of rooting etc.

2) Also, I'm wondering if I'll be sorry that I didn't go with dual core and 4G. Here's where I can use some of your famous assistance. Since I don't watch movies, play games or do much downloading, is that stuff very necessary. I talk, text, email, browse, listen to Pandora, NPR. I played with the Rhyme in the store and it seemed plenty zippy enough for me.

Any advice, (sans ridicule!), especially about 4G and dual core will be welcome.

Again, I've learned so very much and been entertained here for the last few years so thank you all.

It depends both on where you live and how heavy your data usage is ... but if you're at least a moderate data user I'd say that at this point getting a 4G phone is probably a good idea. Remember that you'll have the thing for the next couple of years, and during that time Verizon's 4G network will probably envelop most of the country. When it gets to you, you'll really appreciate the higher speeds. :)

I still use my Eris for my only phone. Why would I switch? It runs great, and I love the size. The only thing it doesn't do is some internet video (Flash). Otherwise, it's still a fantastic device. I'm eligible for an upgrade, but don't see any good smart phones that really are worth the outlay, when the Eris is working so good.

BTW, I'm rooted on xtrSense 5.01 - a real gem of a ROM, rock solid and reliable.

This depends on you, really. I think one thing that the Rhyme may miss is a lot of future Android upgrades; you can imagine that dual-core phones may have a longer shelf life. That said, I know that I can live without 4G - I have WiFi at home, and I really have no interest in playing games, watching a lot of vide on a small display, etc. - and I can live with 3G. (In fact, I'd love for Verizon to put a tower closer to my house - that would be handier for me than 4G.)

You can upgrade in 20 months; I assume that you've come this far with the Eris, so you can stand running a lower-end phone for a while. The Eris was using low-end hardware components when it was released, and, while there is no 4G and dual-core in this phone, it does have a 1 GHz processor, 768 MB of RAM, and a fairly big battery. The display at 480x800 is ok; not great, but better than the Eris. This essentially looks a lot like the Incredible 2 specs (with a better battery), and people seem to like that phone. I think that the Rhyme has more legs than the Eris did at its release.

I like the size myself, but I think it's a little too feminine for me...

I've been eligible for an upgrade for months. I'm just waiting for my contract to run out in December so I can divorce Verizon to go to a carrier with decent reception in southern Ohio.

It's a good thing that the eris is tough as I've been throwing it alot. It's getting slower and slower and freezing up a lot lately no matter the ROM.

I just got a Motorola Bionic.

Yes, I now know that the Eris is slow, rooted or stock. ;)

LOL, nice, doogald!

That's a beast of a phone!

If the Prime (whatever incarnation) doesn't come to VZW, I might head there myself...

I'm guessing you were underwhelmed by Apple's announcements (or lack of iPhone 5 announcement) yesterday? (I didn't read too much about it, but I know you were biding your time).

Cheers!
