Whatttttttttttttttt? Are Google and Samsung kidding me right now.

Reports are coming in that they are delaying the announcement next week, and are stating that its the wrong time to make such an Announcement.

I think Steve Jobs passing was a terrible, unfortunate lose to the world. However if they are passing on a release because of his Death and Announcing they are passing because of his death, well that looks more like asking for the light to shine on them a little brighter because of his actual passing...Bad Business if you ask me!

That's so annoying.

I was looking forward to dumping my 3GS and going for the new flagship Android phone. I hope they don't delay the launch for too long as I really need to upgrade.

Samsung/Google, please don't make me have to go to the iPhone 4S.

Also, I don't see how this could be a mark of respect, as it would have been launching six days after Steve Jobs died. Maybe Google can doo one of their homepage doodles instead.

Frustrating.

It's possible the event was set up to skewer Apple in some way.. which now would be probably seen in bad taste.

Well iphone sales went live at 3am this morning...

I dont see anything stopping Apple from doing what they have to do, so to me it wouldn't make sense for Google or Samsung to postpone anything at all and say it was because of Steve and the timing was wrong.

The void Steve leaves is immeasurable, so postponing anything after his passing makes no sense to me.

If job's funeral/ wake is around that time I can see why it would be postponed. The big people like Eric Schmidt and Larry Paige will probably be at the funeral since they seemed like friends. And a Nexus/ics announcement can't happen without them.

If that's the case, no problem! That I agree on 100%! However come out and say it. Don't give us some lame its not the time crap. In my eyes Steve was so big, they may as well postpone the whole entire show until the following day if his Funeral falls on that day. Yea I said it, Steve Jobs was that Big. However, if its because the device is not ready and they're playing the its not the right time cards...well then for that I'd say i'll never buy a Samsung or Google product again because that would be plain outright wrong.

Plus you gotta remember that the media loves Apple and generally couldn't give a rip about Android, so Samsung/Google have to play this one very delicately. If this announcement was meant to skewer the iPhone and take jabs at Apple, the media would eviscerate Samsung/Google and most of the blogosphere would immediately begin to menstruate.
If this is out of respect for Jobs' (which I think it is...his funeral is probably within a day or so of the 11th), then this is the right move. They can re-tweak their unveiling as appropriate and unveil a little bit later. Until I get a notification that the release has been pushed back (which they haven't stated so), then I won't be too irritated.

Update: From Lee Johnston who has provided some kickass updates in the sticky to this thread...

well that would make a little sense. If the funeral is the same day that would be kind of weird but if that was the case they would/should be able to give an exact date of when it will moved to. Like

due to the funeral of Jobs we're moving the event to Oct 13th ...something to that effect.

A lot goes into planning this big of events. They'll probably want to finalize everything before they give a date.

if you're following the speculation thread, username vz_wired (who claims to work at VZW) says that ice cream sandwich is still being updated and that may have something to do with the delay .

yeah i heard it was getting updated everyday , so was the bionic before release. Which is pretty normal. Most phones get updates on the reg right up until release. That even applies to video games. Every time i buy a brand new xbox game as soon as i stick it in there is already an update for it.

I respect your opinion. Personally, I'd rather they delay to polish up a buggy build rather than ship a product which is so screwed up it requires tons of updates just to function properly. I've experienced that with software and it's always so frustrating. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth for the product and company.

I'll be very annoyed if this turns into the Bionic Syndrome.

bad1550...dude, they just delayed the unveiling. No mention of delaying the release.
Beginning to think that people are panicking for nothing. Yes, it's annoying because I wanted to see it on Tuesday, but I'll wait a few days or a week, as long as the release isn't pushed back (eggregiously).

I need a smartphone to hold me over - hopefully the announcement will be within my 14 days return policy

hmm...I really dont know if thats the case! I pretty much thought both ICS and the Prime were ready to roll! In any event, it doesnt matter at this point because were not going to see anything come next Tuesday. And if it does turn out that Tuesday is Steve Job's Funeral, then I will 100% agree with pushing the date a few days, or week or 2 back. However, if this turns into a month, or 2 months (which I doubt) I'd be really pissed.

moving along, I have the Bionic....It's a pretty good device, the one gigantic bad spot to me is the serious delay on the Auto Focus...Terrible if you ask me on how they still havent rolled out an update yet.
