Root Rooted and Gingerbread Updates won't install

I rooted my new Evo 4g with Gingerbread and had no problems. However now I have received an update for Gingerbread and I can't get it to update. i go through the download process, and then it unpacks the update but wont install. Please help.

what exactly are you trying to update?? if your trying to get the OTA htc software update, DO NOT do it....

go into your settings/aboutphone and post the information on here....

Ok, be thankful it didn't mess up your phone. I understand rooted phones don't play well with the updates. There is a rooted version that has the update in here, let me find it for you, in the meantime, stop trying to get it to install... :p

you do not wan the ota. DO NOT ACCEPT THE OTA. now that you are rooted you can just flash an updated rom and you are good to go. here is the rooted ota 5.53.651.1:

[ROM][STOCK][Rooted] 4.53.651.1 - Odexed & De-Odexe

see i am a noob and i didn't know this stuff it was an ota update and now i will use the rom. and ocnbrze thanks for the root guide. also what is odexed vs. de-odexed?

we were all one once. so no worries.

odexed basically is smaller by design and is packaged differently. because it is packaged in such a way that it can't be themed. de-odexed is a little bigger and tends to be slower by a tad. however, you can theme these roms better. if you just want stock then i would flash the odexed version.

You really still don't want to accept any ota updates while you are rooted.

Do you still have your phone set to check for updates?

I am not on a sense rom right now but I think it is in Menu / settings/ system updates /htc updates or something like that, you want to make sure it is UN checked.

As far as i know, the updates they are talking about are built in to that rom Ocn gave you the link to.

If you want to try a non stock rom, Mikg2.55 has all the latest updates built in and apparently has some added security features by having removed some sort of data tracking capabilities, if I understand it correctly. Maybe they are offering some sort of updates to deal with privacy issues. If so, looks like Mik has it covered.

If you try 2.55, you might also want to consider flashing a new kernel, which you could find listed under Sense in the roms and kernels sticky.

yep NEVER accept an ota while you are rooted. it could create more of a mess then you want. it could unroot you and with most updates it could close the exploit and you will not be able to root until the devs find another exploit. that could take awhile and you will have to wait in the meantime. it could also brick your phone. really all you have to do is wait until the devs cookup a rom with the new ota built in.

The link in post #5 i believe is the latest:) OCN is the best and has always helped me out.

Maybe that is the update that Sprint is trying to push OTA now?
It would make sense that they do that if it's been leaked that there are security issues.
