So not to start this war (hoping), a 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon and Adreno 220 rumored in the upcoming Vigor is likely more comparable to the SGS II @ 1.2 Ghz than if it was compared to a potential 1.5 Ghz Nexus Prime w/ either OMAP or Exynos...Is that correct? It would be the A8 vs A9 issue?

That is correct.

The Snapdragon S3 is Scorpion cpu (uses the ARMv7 instruction set with extensions but is not an A8 or A7) and its embedded GPU is the Adreno 220. The SGS2 has an Exynos processor.

My Evo 3D with an S3 at 1.5 GHz benchmarks very comparably to the stock SGS2 at 1.2 GHz (with reasonably small pluses and minuses evening the trade).

A 1.5 GHz Exynos or OMAP(*) would exceed either.


(* footnote - this would depend on the OMAP generation, but for purposes of our expectations and your question, the answer is yes.)

as we know the I9250 went through FCC, without any word of LTE, it might be true that the rest of the world gets no LTE-compability, which reminds me of the first exynos-soc (4210, used in the Galaxy S2), and again maybe the exynos 4212 does not support LTE either (in the official announcement they only said some things like: 25% faster, 50% better 3d rendering, 30% less power consumption), but instead just way better performance [like i already mentioned]... and so i think the GSM-Model comes with the new exynos 4212-soc, while the verizon-variant comes with the Omap 4460 for having LTE-compability...

Take a look at which of these phones comes in as LTE+GSM+CDMA...and the processor.

The 4212 announcement from Samsung makes it look like it is more than just a die shrink, as their performance numbers scale faster than the jump from 1.2 or 1.4 to 1.5 and we see the addition of new features such as HDMI 1.4 and probably a newer GPU. It wouldn't be hard for them to add support for an MDM9600/9615 at that point, or even their own within the SoC...

it was selling for a penny a little while ago. 3rd party retailers always are cheaper so you can't really go by what wirefly and that go by. Best buy usually keeps the price for longer than others so if it changes usually it means something is up. usually.

I think the proper phrase is "you complete me" since you and I need to correct the very minor errors we each make.

Snapdragon uses the Scorpion CPU, as you stated, which uses the ARMv7 instruction set. Cortex A8 also uses ARMv7 instruction set. So does Cortex A9. While the instruction sets are the same (FYI, ARM11 used ARMv6), the MPCore is different.

I'll go into more detail in a separate thread later this week. Car is packed and I'm about to roll out to Little Rock for the next 5 weeks.

Disagrees with the news blurb on the top of the page about the Nexus Prime.

The rest of the specs there say 800x480 and Android 2.3.3 - so I wouldn't sweat it, srsly.

That site appears to be just "placeholding". There are no cases and every available accessory is standard micro usb, micro sd cards, etc. (that is pretty standard and easy to claim it is for the prime). I'd say they don't know squat

Isn't everything a rumor right now? Unless I'm mistaken, the leaks that claim it has the OMAP aren't any more credible than the ones that claim it has the Exynos. If I've missed something credible, then I'm wrong, but I don't think we've seen anything solid and credible, other than rumor, backing either processor.

If I've missed something credible, then I'm wrong, but I don't think we've seen anything solid and credible, other than rumor, backing either processor.

i'd say the difference being, the omap rumor has been reported on since june over and over again. the exynos nonsense is only something recently

Agreed. Now if he said "i'm holding one in my hand right now and it's OMAP", it might change the game a little b/c he is a source many respect. But that's not what happened and i think the reason for that is the usual info sources aren't sure themselves this time. They poured a big old can of stop leak on this one.

Oh, no worries. I've no plans to jump ship, and considering this will be my first dual core, Im sure I will be pleasantly impressed. I was really just hoping for something big for android. Don't get me wrong, ics is looking so, so sexy, but for once I would like something to live up to its hype. Maybe that's just not possible in the age of the hypebeast, though.

Nothing personal - that's just a bold statement, referencing a phone not out yet vs. a processor that isn't in anyone's hands on a phone yet.

Think that Apple's policy of increasing OS size (features) while keeping clock rates low to increase battery life might have some bearing on that?

Or the frame update difference between about a megapixel per frame (1280x720=921,600) vs about 2/3 of that (960x640=614,400)?

I think it's way too soon for anyone who knows what they're talking about to make that claim.

That said, maybe I'm wrong, I often am.

So this the first thread I have ever been addicted to. As you can tell from my whopping 2 posts I'm not an avid forum guy but I needed to say the chip stuff is cracking me up. I'm using an OG Droid running CM7 that has to be reset 4 times a day so it thinks it has a battery charge, the battery cover falls off every other time I take it out of my pocket, and when I get a call "60 percent of the time it works every time".

I would probably be happy with a miniature hamster on a wheel powering this thing. But I appreciate the big brains and passion for android.
