Just a heads up (not sure if I these posts are welcome) but I just got the latest heads up email from Radio shack that the HTC hero will be 99 for a 2 year renewal starting next week. I bought mine at Best Buy on Jan 8th for 179. Guess who's going back to best buy for an 80 dollar refund tomorrow.

Ok from what I have found Best Buy Cellphones fall under the 30 day return policy.

Return period

Return your item anytime from the date you received your item(s) within the timeframe below:
14 days for computers, monitors, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, and radar detectors
30 days for all other products
45 days for all products for Reward Zone Program Premier Silver members

and Price match policy :

If you find a lower advertised price on the same available brand and model prior to your purchase or during the exchange and return period, we will match that price. Simply bring in the ad of the local retail competitor or Best Buy, while the lower price is in effect and receive your price match.

So Even if I have to walk the 1.5m to the store I'll try to get this sorted out tomorrow

Is this going to be in the sunday adds ?

Best buy's website also lists the 99 upgrade pricing.. However it also says something about it being for the primary line only. I've already upgraded the 'primary line' phone on the account and my husband's phone is also listed as eligible for upgrade on the sprint site for $179. He wants to upgrade - will this count for best buy's purposes?

I usually prefer to upgrade through Sprint as I'm 'somewhat' sure they won't mess up my corporate discount (most of the time anyways), but a little leery of what adding an extra layer would do :p.. For $80 I am willing to give it a shot!

The radio shack ad was updated and shows that it's 99 for a new line (didn't they do that last week and switched out the moment for the hero)

regardless... Best Buy had the 99 for upgrade or new line and I got my 85 back.

With regards to sprint... so as long as you're in the 30 day window, can't you return your phone to Sprint no questions asked? And then do the upgrade through Best Buy? Just a thought.

I've never had corporate discount issues (which is good because I left that employer 7 years ago)

Dang, found that out firsthand about 20 minutes ago. Now I need to decide whether to wait & hope for them to drop their price to $99 soon, or put myself through the pain or returning & then buying @ Best Buy (which, I'm afraid, might put my Sprint upgrade in jeopardy).

Yet another reason not to shop at Radio Shack... no clue how they stay in business. The only things I ever find myself buying there is stuff that's on clearance. It's like a train wreck.. I can't help but go in there when I'm trying to find something, but I always end up leaving empty handed wondering how they stay in business with their high prices.

I would have thought they would have matched the price knowing you can take your business elsewhere while still in the period where you could return the phone. Call sprint about it. I thought they would have pursuaded me from buying my phones from Best Buy... but no, they were actually the ones who told me to buy them there in the first place so I wouldn't have to deal with rebates.

I still got a better deal. I went to BB and got mine for 69.99 at the beginning of December last year. That was too sweet of a deal to pass up. It was the Hero for 69.99 or the Pre for 99.99. So I chose the Hero.

So I got my Dad the Pre for 99.99 and also got a Palm Pixi for 24.99 for my Step Mom as Christmas gifts. From now on I'm buying from BB. They price match with anyone and you dont have to deal with stupid mail in rebates like with Sprint.

My Moms account wasnt eligible for an upgrade but another line on there account was so we used that line to get the Pixi for 24.99 and then just turned around after initial setup and switched it right over to her line. BB did it all for us. Kinda working the system you could say.

Needless to say they got early Chrostmas gifts because I had to have them there to access their account and transfer the info from the old phones to the new ones.

I'd have paid more for it at Best buy just to avoid the damn mail in rebates! Luckily instead saved 80 bucks and no mail ins. If you buy a lot of tech stuff or get the rewards mastercard it is pretty useful and you get a bunch of special deals as a silver member. Like I could have gotten all their after thankgiving sale stuff on the monday before in a special after hours event instead of standing in horrendous lines.
I've always had fantastic customer service there even if they are a bit expensive on some items.
