Samsung Galaxy S2 - Case causing overheat?

Hello all, new Android user here :)

I've recently converted over from the iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy S2, in fact as recent as last Thursday. My phone was great over the weekend until Sunday night it started misbehaving. I returned to the unit to find it stuck on the boot screen. The only way I could get it to come back to life was a five minutes battery pull.

Steadily throughout Monday it got worse to the stage it wouldn't switch on at all. I've taken it back and got a replacement (under a 14 day satisfaction period from OK in the UK). Today I found my replacement had switched itself off. It has turned on ok and is still behaving.

All I have done (to both phones) is fit a 16GB MicroSD card, connect to my WiFi and download a few basic apps. I have however bought a CaseMate case that simply clips on and covers the back to protect from scratches.

I've taken it off my new one but found myself wondering if I am indeed the Jinx of mobile smart phones or the case is perhaps causing overheating issues.

Has anyone experience anything similar?

I know some have experience some over heating and I think the new update addresses that. I have not had my phone over heat at all. I have felt it get warm but not hot. I have the Otter box defender on my phone so I cant see it being your case. I found that when my battery gets low the phone will get warm. Hope it all works out for you.

Thanks for the reply :)

All is going well thus far now I've taken the case off... perhaps the first phone I got was just plain faulty.

Fingers crossed!

It does rather sound more like a faulty handset or battery to me.

I'm on firmware 2.3.5 and "overheating" is not an issue for me.

Plus I have the CaseMate, Tough Case, which is basically a silicon inner case with a hard outer case and this is not causing a problem:-

Prior to this I had the official Samsung Mesh case which has holes in it:-
