when i go to "Manage Applications" and go to "All" it shows "Dialer Storage" taking up 56.21MB. That seems WAY too high for any app. If I clear the cache for that does it just wipe the history of my phone dialer, or what exactly is that, and what will clearing the cache do?

HTC Incredible

This is by far the most annoying bug with this phone. I have 602mb internal and 12gb SD card storage and the warning still comes on. I just cleared my dialer storage myself but the fact that the warning comes on when there is so much space left is ridiculous.

Chances are you've got all your MMS and SMS you've ever sent/received gobbling space.

Here's a blog post I wrote on the subject.

It must be triggered when a percentage of space is available. My Droid has a total capacity of around 200MB, and the warning only comes on around 25MB

DON'T DO IT!! Unless you want all your text messages to be erased, even locked messages. I did it today in desperation to end this GD Low on Space crap. My Dialer Storage was over 43MGs and did not realize it erased the text messages. I thought, being it is titled "Dialer Storage", not Text Message Storage, that it would not erase them. I lost some important texts about money and work hours. FAAARG!
My suggestion is to go into your messages, lock all the ones you want and erase all unimportant threads or message. I know it takes a poop load of time, but if you want to save certain messages, Do Not Erase the Dialer Storage Data.
Best of luck.

FYI-I had been receiving the low on memory for the passed 8 months, then final had it. There was SOOOO much available memory on my phone, yet the 44MGs in the messages was causing this??? B to the MFn S, HTC. But the warning is gone now, along with valuable messages. Grrrrrr.

Check out the huge sticky thread at the top of the forum, basically you have 150mb of storage for that type of data.

I had the same problem with the shrinking phone space. I went from 800Mgs to 200mgs. Everyday when I turned on the phone it had less space. I use superbox to mange the phone apps, cache etc. So I synced all my apps with App Brain and cleared my phone and reinstall App brain and all my apps and I am back at 800+ mgs of phone space....so where does it go? What is using the free space? This is crazy!!

well I went to the message settings and was able to find that you can move your storage for messages and multimedia to your SD card. I did so, rebooted the phone and my error went away. I also turned on old message deletion so older message will be purged.

just open your messages, click on the menu >settings path. Then move your storage locations from the phone to SD
