Viber is here for Android (update at post 65)!!!

Hi my wife has a desire z on android 2.3.3 when she installed it on her phone she found that when exiting other apps on her phone it would reboot then if she went into another app upon exiting her phone would reboot again so she uninstalled viber and it has been fine just wondered if anyone else has had this issue.
This is not a Viber issue. I have a Desire Z as well on 2.3.3 and this happens on mine as well before I had Viber installed. Please make sure of the bugs as you may confuse the Viver team and make them look for bugs that dont exist with their software :) Thanks!

@riahc3 -
Thank you for your comment and your care. Our responses:
- Multilanguage: Planned, and coming soon.
- The whole point of Viber is to automatically show you who you *can* call. Nobody says you have to call those people. The side that receives the "Joined" notifications can choose to cancel this feature and stop receiving these messages.
- Landscape mode for more pages: under development.
- Video & other media through Viber: under development.

* yes, there are still bugs around, but we're working hard to resolve the critical ones first, and then the rest. I will keep you posted and hopefully your recommendation to your friends will soon be 100% accurate, and not only 90% ;)

Thank you very much for your reply. Listening to your clients is something very important that has been forgotten in this modern day.

- I imagine that Multilanguage is something without a doubt on the top of your list and indeed is coming soon. I can provide my services to Spanish but I do suppose you have multiple personal working on this section.
- What I was referring to (I might have mistyped it) was that part of "The side that receives the "Joined" notifications can choose to cancel this feature and stop receiving these messages.". I believe not only should this be set to default as No, I dont want to recieve them but the person who has JOINED Viber should send it out. In reverse. A suggestion and personal opinion, nonetheless.
- Besides that most applications are in landscape mode, it is also a personal preference as my mobile device has a QWERTY keyboard and to me it is unnatrual to type with the screen in portrait. It was like commented a personal preference.
- Good to hear that features throughout the thread, are "under develelopment". The future for Viber looks great, as its size is problably already large in the iPhone area.

Bugs, as a software developer myself, are inevitable. Was simply pointing out some.

Thanks again for your replies and Im looking forward to hear some more updates :)

I’d like to reiterate the five commitments we made when we launched the company:

1. The Viber software will always be free.
2. Viber for iPhone, Android, or any other device will never display any ads.
3. Viber to Viber calls will always be free.
4. Viber to Viber text messages will always be free.
5. We will never sell, rent or in any other way abuse your personal information.

You will have to get the .APK from somewhere external. It isnt avaliable for the iPad either so this is a phone only app.

I've been using Viber for about two months now and have a few questions that came up during this time.

1. I have to change my SIM card every now and then, when I travel to another country. So far I always had to create a new account and all my messages with other people were deleted and lost and they had to add me again. So far I have not used the same SIM card twice, but I soon will and therefore would like to know if in this case my previously created account with this SIM card will be restored? Or will it go through the same process of registering from scratch?
In general, having to do this is one of the main disadvantages of Viber in my opinion. I wish this would work more like a messenger with a username as base information without being connected to your phone number directly.

2. The second huge issue I have is that sometimes I will not receive calls and messages until I explicitly start Viber itself and check manually. This happens even though I might have used Viber just an hour before, so I can't imagine that it was completely closed. Also, sometimes it works perfectly for days without any trouble of receiving calls and messages and I don't have to check Viber manually.
Is this a known problem and is there a way to fix this?

@bu995 - did you manage to get the code eventually?

@riahc3 and @maxchooi - Viber does not officially support Tablets and iPads, but Viber should work to *some* extent on both (especially iPads). iPads should find Viber in AppStore just fine. Tablet users - if you don't see it in Market, you can find the .APK in our website: Is your Android compatible with Viber (system requirements)? | Viber Support

@Qoo -
1. Viber needs a SIM card only one time - when you need to receive the SMS with the code (actually, you can also do it with a different SIM card, and use that code on your phone). My point is that after registering Viber in one country, with one specific SIM card, Viber is installed on your device and doesn't have to correspond with a one specific SIM card anymore. When you travel, simply keep Viber installed even while you switch SIM cards, and then your Viber number will remain the number with which you originally registered.

Please note that we are planning to develop a option to import/export message history, and this could also aide you in the future.

2. Viber relies on the C2DM mechanism on your Android to pop-up Viber when it's not on the foreground (and even when it's completely shut off), in order to keep you available at all times. However, the C2DM service itself could be unstable (the service is run by Google), there is not much we can do to help - this is something that needs to be looked into.

At any rate - we are continuously working to improve our integration with C2DM, and we hope that in future verions these problems will be solved completely.

Thank you for your quick reply.
So far, every time I switched my SIM card I had to create a new account in order to keep using Viber and my friends had to add me again as well. Was that maybe just recently fixed/changed?
An import/export function for the message history would definitely be a nice addition.

About the C2DM mechanism: Normally I would say it's just my phone, but I have heard about the same problems from friends too, some of them using an iPhone, that's why I asked here in the first place. It seems that the issue can't be easily reproduced, because sometimes it doesn't happen for days and then all of a sudden messages can't be received anymore unless one manually starts the Viber app.

You actually never had to do it ;)
After changing SIM, if you simply kept using Viber as is, you would see that if you called someone, they would see your "old" (original) phone number on their screen. This was never changed nor fixed, it's always been this way :)

People with iPhone experience the same thing because on Apple phones, there's a similar mechanism (the original one, actually) called Push Notifications, which behaves exactly the same way, and can occasionally cause the same problem. That's why it's also very hard to define or reproduce precisely - it's rare and inconsistent (if it ever happens).

To all,
We (Viber) are about to release multilangual support for Viber at last!

We would appreciate your help with translation to your personal language. If you are fluent at any other language than English, this means adding missing translated lines, and confirming the existing translations previously added by users: Translate Viber - Streamlined Translation Platform for Sites & Apps - Viber

Remember - we let the community of our users shape Viber and decide what it looks like :)

If you have any questions please let me know. We thank you in advance,
the Viber Team.

I have been very happily using Viber with no problem for about a month. When Viber did the updates on December 20th, 2011, I picked up my phone and Viber was open and said it was deactivated! I have tried to reactivate it several times, but I do not receive a SMS with the access code, and I do receive the call, but when I answer it I don't hear any code. I am desperate for my viber back!

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. I have waited the 24 hours before trying again. I regularly receive international SMS and calls, so that is not the problem. I have tried it on 3G and Wifi both.

Is here ANY way to get the code?? I no longer have the code I successfully used last month and I have tried all the things recommended on the viber support page. I had no problem getting the code a month ago!

HELP!

Carrier - Virgin MObile
Phone - Optimus VM670
Android version - 2.2.1

Please contact our support team at Viber Support and Knowledge Base . There, you can find the "Ask Viber Support" button, where you can open a ticket.

All these google searches I've done, say to create a help ticket at the Viber Support page, but I haven't been able to find anywhere in the Viber website a place to create a help ticket.

I've gone to the Ask Viber Support page probably 20 times in the past 3 days. I go through the wizard:
Trouble with Android
Trouble with access code
Don't receive via sms or call back
and get to this page,
http://androidforums.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=3704671
which basically says:
NOTE: Unfortunately, we're aware that in certain cases the access code delivery is unavailable to certain users. Please contact your phone carrier regarding the ability to receive international SMS/calls.

At the bottom there is a Back button, but no button for creating a help ticket. I have tried doing the wizard through Chrome and through Explorer and don't see a help ticket option anywhere. Where can I create a ticket? Help! I miss viber!

Ok, I found a way to leave a ticket. The way I was proceeding throuh the wizard left me at a dead end, but if you say: Android issue, General Information, Bug report, it takes you to a form for leaving a ticket. FINALLY. I was saying Android, Trouble with code, Didn't receive via SMS or Calback.... and that does NOT take you to a ticket!
Hope this helps others who are trying to leave a help ticket!

When I scroll through my list of Viber contacts, I have noticed that the only contacts with photos are those who are contacts on LinkedIn. So many others are Facebook contacts with photos but they just show as contacts without photos in Viber.

Any plans to use Facebook photos in contacts ?

Hi,
This is a known issue to us that some users are experiencing, and we're working right now to find its source and hopefully fix it soon.

We apologize for the temporary inconvenience :(
