Gorilla Glass

Is the screen made out of Gorilla Glass for the Gnex? I haven't seen this confirmed or is it just assumed that it will ship with GG? I drop my phone.... A lot....

I dont think so...I've thrown it out there in a few threads. No answers! I watched the event last night, not a peep out of Google or Samsung about Gorilla Glass. However, It was one of the first things mentioned at the Razr event.

Since I am a new user I cannot post links yet. When I did a "Galaxy Nexus gorilla glass" search on Google, I came across an article that stated it did have gorilla glass. But whether the article is accurate or not, I could not say.

Google / Samsung would have said something yesterday if it was on board. Plus...If history serves me right, it wasn't on the Nexus S either...

Just like the skimp on not placing the SG2 camera on board, looks like this was another penny pinching move by Samsung.

you mean penny pinching move by google. Everyone describes the Nexus building process as Google picking the OEM to work with and choosing every component that is put into it. This is why it has no sd card slot. Think about it, why would samsung choose an OMAP over their own processor, or a 5MP camera when they could use the 8MP they are already producing for the SGSII to save costs, or why they would leave out sd card slot when every single one of their other devices has that feature?

Very interesting points! The Nexus line has always been Google's creation from what I understand.

Good points indeed ...

However, in the Big Picture of things...I think the SD card slot may be a missing feature on alot of devices moving toward.

Think about it...Microsoft pretty much didnt want it on they're new devices.

And now Android is pushing the cloud feature as well...

As for the Glass...I don't think I'd buy a phone these days without Gorilla Glass..

But why would Google want lower specs? It doesn't make sense to me.

Google chooses the specs, which mean google is probably footing the bill. Lower specs = lower cost. Think of it like this. If you built a house and you contracted it out, the contracter (Samsung) will build the house however you want, but if you (Google) want some uber rare limited stone tiles from italy through the house with solar panels lining the roof and an elevator, you are going to pay for it. lol

Steveeeeeee....lol!

Seriously...that would be good news indeed!

On a serious note...theres a disclaimer on the Corning Gorilla Glass website that says your device may or may not have it on board...

Rob was right there talking to the Samsung guy while Early and I were chatting to Rob via skype. He asked the guy twice! The guy said yes.

I'm somewhat immersed in deciding what phone to get so all over the net reading various sites and someone who actually tested the phone's screen tweeted:

"I can confirm that it DOES NOT have Gorilla Glass".

I'll try to find the source for an updated response.

And yeah it puts me off a bit because that screen is huge and I am clumsy.

Can't find it now but the article IMPLIED they had tested it, or at least I inferred it from their wording. Since I can't find it, forget about it for now I'd rather go with Samsung's claims than a Tweet!

Simple as this....No Gorilla Glass, no buy!

No SD I've comes to term with in the last few days, and would just adapt to using the cloud!

But no Gorilla glass on such a high end phone with that big a screen is just a no go for me. I don't use screen protectors, and im not about to start.

That right there would send me right over to the Razr....case closed!

Just to add...
I just checked the Gorilla Glass web site! No dice on listing it on there with the rest of Samsungs devices that offer it!

FYI...Razr listed on there already!

Jeeeeez...Google really penny pinched

I couldn't have said it better. I refuse to put screen protector films on the screen.

Gorilla Glass is kinda like SAMOLED to me. Once you've had it, you feel like you NEED it.
