Do we have "Locate"?

My wife got a Droid Eris over the weekend and we noticed a symbol in the Notification bar that looks like crosshairs. Turns out it's a feature that allows emergency services to locate her in case of an accident, even if her GPS isn't turned on.

Do we have something like that on the Moto Droid built in?

His quote from the linked PDF probably means that the Droid can do it, but he does not provide information about whether there is an app available that can use it, or whether it can be used from the other end (the emergency service) without an additional app. Just guessing . . .

e911 is a built in service. Whenever your phone dials 911, it lights up your GPS and sends that data to the e911 (e means enhanced) service. The emergency assistance operator will receive your GPS coordinates automatically without you having to do anything at all.

This can not be disabled. Everytime you dial 911 and hit send it happens.

I should note ... Good luck with that helping you! Even though the e911 operator receives your information, that same information is not always coordinated against a map or relayed to the actual emergency services who will be saving your life! The e911 service has been around for several years but is just beginning to take hold in all Emergency Response areas.

Its now mandatory in all phones being sold. Verizon told me that they can no longer activate a phone without some sort of GPS or aGPS onboard.

Homeland security. This started after 9/11. All phone made after that had to be made with some type of gps locator.
