Hello,

I have got a pre-launch trial Samsung Galaxy note. It is really amazing. However, some of my friend criticize for being big. Personally, I like it very much, especially the 2500mAh battery. I can spend the whole day with full connectivity and heavy usage. The stylus pen is great and Snote application that comes wit is very useful.

Unfortunately, I the arabic text is disconnected and I could not find a way to fix it neither to root the device. Any one has a clue?

Regards,

Hey Hussein- Wow! Lucky you! Could you please answer a couple of questions?

Do you find it too big to make a telephone call?i.e do you think it looks silly holding it up to your ear?

How do you find the screen? Do you find it sharper than the galaxy s? I am interested to know whether it will look better than the s2 as well as this is amoled+
Is the screen as bright and vivid as the galaxy s?

Is there alot of lag when using the pen? From some of the videos it appeared that there was buut i am assuming this is early software

Anymore impressions from you would be really appreciated! Thanks for now- look forward to hearing your response!

Hello,

- It looks a little big; but most people won't notice when I put in my ear (I have small ears).
-So far, a week of usage and I pretty sure that I will continue with it until a better phone comes up.

- the screen is great as usual. diffidently better than galaxy s from all aspects including colors and brightness. I did quick comparison with S2 and it is far better. Dont forget that the resolution is 1280 x 800 super AMOLED.

- the lag is barely noticeable. there was no lag before installing GO launcher. It scored in quadrant 3900.

-Th Snote application is great. you can capture the screen using the stylus pen from any application; then select any part of the picture; edit and share it.

- So far, I did not face any problem with it except arabic font and being unable to root it.

Thanks Hussein so much for answering my questions! I really appreciate it. I was a little worried about a couple of these things and you have really cleared it up for me!
I was particurlarly worried about the screen as it is pentile like the nexus prime even although it is HD. The Galaxy Nexus' Super AMOLED display is a minus, not a Plus -- Engadget

I am glad though you think it looks alot better in reality though than the s and s2- very impressive. I like painting and drawing too so really fancy having a stylus too. Really cant wait to buy it!
Thanks!

testing inside home:
GPS without SIM was not stable, the blue dot on google maps kept circulating within 40m circle. With SIM it was quite accurate.

Information from Android_system_info application:

it also has a pressure sensor but I don't what is it for! is it a barometer?

the Official site mentioned that it has barometer:
Samsung GALAXY Note - Samsung Mobile

Yes, it's a Bosch BMP182. Interesting that this is a different model than the one in the Galaxy Nexus - that uses a BMP180.

The basic idea is that Barometers give a good indication of altitude, and when you know your altitude already, it makes it much easier to get a GPS lock because that's one more factor that doesn't need to be calculated. :)

Thanks for answering the questions here too. I'm not sure how you'd go about changing the languages - if it's not a hard-baked arabic phone, you should be able to change the language through the settings menu. I'm not too clear on the exact problem you have though.

I was hoping rooting the Note would be the same procedure as the S II - after all it's basically just a jumbo version. :D

Thanks for that. Is there a way to see which satellites you are connected to? Is there a way to see that you are using Glonass satellites?
The only other way of getting GPS is by running, this app. If you don't mind running it and showing the screenshot. I would appreciate it.

I have a question....if you have a video clip or photo taken with the note, and you edit it useing the built in software, and save it, does it overwrite the original video/photo or will it save the original and the edited version...do you see what I mean?..
How quick does it get a GPS lock ? My desire HD takes ages, if your lucky to get it at all...
How easy is it to see the screen outdoors in direct sunlight?
How would you rate the phone overall, compared to gs2.? Better? Worth the money? Would you be happy with.it for the next 2 years?thanks.

Hello All,

Sorry for late response as I was very busy at work.

Ziplomatic,
AVI files are totally perfect even running from network storage. MKV 720 was OK but with some flickering.

tarsierspectra,
Find attached the output of GPS status as requested (test was inside my house). I am not an expert in GPS; but it seems to me decent as it is AGPS and get me the location quickly. If u need any further assistance please let me know.

Edbanger,
I have tried the photo editor and I found that it it saves the output in different location without overwriting original image. It also let write the new file name before saving.

sjael,
Could you please guide on the best way to root S2 without changing kernel as I used to have S1 which different hardware.

Thanks all,

Hi husseinb,

Thanks so much for all of this. This is really helpful. I do have additional questions. What I am trying to figure out is whether the A-GPS on the Note also has a native GPS. So if you have no wireless signal can it also find your location. It will take much longer to locate, up to 2min, I realize that. Do you mind doing the same test without the SIM card in and running that GPS app and see if you eventually get a location lock? You might have to wait 2-3min but that's normal. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
