now that its officially coming, i am very excited about getting my first LTE device. I live in nashville, tn and from what i have seen from friends phones, we have a very good lte coverage area here so with all of the cloud options such as picasa and music, i likely could get away with a 16gb easily

Exactly. If they took this bad, it's for WORSE reasons in my opinion as it's just a sign of animosity and disrespect toward those that give them their revenue.

Not a problem dude. It looked really official so figgered it was real and was in their standard press release section by the time I was looking for it.

I'm going with $250 and $350. Don't think they'll go full $400 on a phone. That's just too much. And like what was said earlier, wouldn't be much of a subsidized price.

Makes sense (in my mind) for three reasons:

1. The premium pricing of new 4G devices (16gb are $300)
2. Extra 16gb will probably be rolled up to capture the margin to $400
3. VZW would sell it, but not in stores, due to the price and perception of customers.

This probably isn't a bad idea for those thinking of going quad core within a year or so.

That's way too high considering current LTE phones pricing. Bionic is 299 with 32Gb (16+16). Charge was 299 with 34Gb (2+32) though it's cheaper now. I guess 32Gb Nexus will be 299.

Another source (not "the" source) is saying google/vzw/samsung are kicking 11/17 as the release date, now.

So? We can fill this thread up to 40K!

Well, if the rumors about Google/Samsung and VZW not seeing eye to eye on the Nexus as recently as this week are true, then a delayed launch makes sense. Sammy would have had no reason to build any VZW compatible Nexxi until VZW signed on officially.

Start cranking them out, man!

Any guesses on the version number of ICS on the released phones? 4.0.1 was on the press units in HK.

Also, does anyone else remember when the phone dimensions were given during the launch webcast? I recall the thickness was given with an "HSPA versions" qualifier which leads me to believe that the LTE phone will be slightly thicker.

Okay, Random Question Time...

I really didn't see much "sense" in starting a whole new thread about this since it's just one quick question - but this one goes out to everyone coming from an HTC phone to the Samsung Nexus. I have a love / hate relationship with HTC Sense. I love how slick of a UI it is, but I loathe how much it chews up my battery! At any given time, Sense is using about 8% of the CPU, whereas the next highest app is only consuming around 1.5%! Big difference! In going to the Nexus, what type of UI will I be getting - and - how much better at battery management will it be?

Or... did Samsung simply throw in a beefier battery (than the 1350mAh that came with the Incredible) to offest their UI draining the battery?

Fair point, though offset and then some by:

Nexus buzz & first ICS device
4460 chipset
4.65" hi def display
The emphasis is cloud storage for the device (sans sd)

This device screams premium price.

What the chances that Verizon will put the Mobile Hotspot Bloat from keeping us from wifi tethering like they put on the D3 Gingerbread?

I thought that there was already a way around that? I am not condoning it, just saying I think I read somewhere that one of the devs found the fix. I could also be so giddy from the announcement I'm making things up.

Yeah i don't know if Verizon would go that low. Maybe google eats some of the price to have more units out there. Its obvious they want the nexus line to succeed. Hard to believe it would go below $300 for either model. I'd hate to "cheap" out and go with the 16GB, but i definitely would if the 32 is over $300.

I expect only one version for $300, but no clue which it will be. What you put up above does help the RAZR though from a price per memory amount perspective. Helps iPhone also.

Only reason I figure they do this is to limit sales, so could happen.

It will be many months. Companies that add their own launchers and UI to Android like Motorola and HTC will have to add their UI software to ICS before they can release it to those phones.

Thank goodness there's no third-party UI software on the Nexus.

Not in the least. I see it as a major win FOR CONSUMERS that we were able to have this much influence on a company that has historically been not very consumer friendly.

Verizon Wireless provides a SERVICE. We purchase that service (and pay a ton of money for the privilege). Why exactly are we not allowed to tell them what we want?

Typically the prices remain constant as the hardware progresses. 4G gave them a reason to up the price. I just don't see it going that far.

Excellent question. Here's my opinion, not something absolutely expert:

• I see a lot of people dropping Sense and going with CM7 and getting big battery improvements. So, maybe that's one part of the puzzle.

• We have no idea how ICS really is. Honestly, to me, it looks pretty intense compared to GB.
  • maybe a -1?
• On the other hand, as dual core Sense-running guy, I can say that Sense 3 with a dual core lasts longer by far than Sense 2 with a single core.

• ICS is said to be a much more efficient and optimized approach to dual core processing - those words always translate into battery life

• Lots more pixels on HD screen

• Verizon made the Thunderbolt worse than an old Evo with their config and radio mismanagement - what happens here?

Tough call without solid data. If the wild card works out, I'd say it adds up in your favor.

PS - If Sense is part of heavy social networking that you're doing - all bets off for me. That stuff always chews batteries.

Seems to make sense. VZW probably wants the Nexus to be "modified" with VZW stuff and probably not as open as currently designed. Seems the 16gb is what will ship (if two year is $300), but considering "later this year", plenty of time to debate and speculate more.

BTW, so much for those "VZW staff have already had training" and Nov 3rd or 10th speculation. They were probably confusing the training for the keyboard phone recently released.

Or they really are training in anticipation that things get finalized and the phone drops on the 10th. They haven't announced an exact date for the razr either, just November.
