***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I've come to the determination that I don't necessarily need to have the latest and greatest in terms of specs.

I remember back when the N1 was hitting the streets, thinking how awesome it was going to be compared to my lowly Eris and.. coming to Verizon?! Yes!

Well we all know how that worked out. I ended up getting a DInc, and have been loving it ever since.

Now, after having that for over a year, I realize the shortcomings of the phone for me on a personal basis.

I still love it, but I could definitely use a bigger screen for texting and internet.

My original Amoled DInc was stolen and replaced with a LCD version; I miss the contrast ratio.

The 1ghz Snapdragon processor, while still fast and capable, struggles from time to time when dealing with complex web content and high end games.

Also, from an aesthetic standpoint, its pretty uninspiring.

That said, with root and CM7, it really isn't much different than the GF's Nexus S from a performance standpoint.

This tells me that the GNex will likely surpass every expectation that I could have for it. It literally appears as if it will fit my every need. Add in some ICS sweetness and I honestly think I could own this phone for at least two years, if not more.

Verizon, BRING IT! :-D

heres why i dont care about latest and greatest

HTC thunderbolt. im sure you have heard of this phone, either from its release or its many, many bugs. there are thunderbolts out there that randomly reboot multiple times a day, and they have not fixed them yet. but for some reason the thunderbolt has awesome dev support. my thunderbolt is running a rom from "team bamf".. and my phone is incredible. fast as hell, no issues, no reboot, no lag. htc thunderbolt is STILL running on froyo (they ota'd gingerbread about a month ago.. and that ota was broken.. it made you not get voicemails. so they suspended the ota. we still aren't officially on GB), but from team bamf, ive been on GB since the summer

dev support is a big thing with the gnex. if my TB devs turned chicken **** into chicken salad.. im happy. and i know that my tb devs, team bamf is going to be developing for it :)

I could use some opinions, fellas. I'm currently on AT&T with a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I really want the GNex but I'm not to pleased about jumping from paying $25 for unlimited data, to paying $30 for 2GB. It seems that the GNex will be exclusive to Verizon for the time being. I'm trying to figure out whether I should switch to Verizon or hold out for AT&T to release the GNex. It took them forever to get the SGSII and really wouldn't want to wait longer than December to pick up the GNex.

Anyone know how long "exclusivity" usually lasts? AT&T's with the iPhone lasted a long time..

well sir, as someone who owns a pair of their $300 studio line headphones, i have to disagree with you. they are some of the best headphones i have ever owned, and have better mid-range and certainly more low end response than any others i have heard in that price range.

Sorry. I dont mean to lash out but what you are saying supports what im getting at. What did you compare them to bose? AKG? Audiotechnica? Beyer? Denon?

If you lived near me i would lend you my AudioTechnica ES7's. I paid $120 for them. They sound better than my friend's Dre's. They are all hype. No doub they are decent headphones but for 300 bucks you're getting ripped off.

Idk why they choose to do daily backups like 6 time a day and at the times when most people are on the site. Why not do it late at night or early morning?:thinking::thinking:

Buddy, its because the database is crashing, that's "generic" oops there was a problem page...

Same thing happened leading up to the Dinc release :p We severely overloaded the site for a few weeks :)

Probably a month or two like all the other nexus were when they first launched. I would wait most likely at&t will get the nexus and I would not jump ship to lose unlimited data to have a phone a month or two before the rest. Not to mention lte goes through data faster.

They don't. That's a general error-trap fall thru when the SQL servers glitch and run home to mama.

We're already preparing the necessary upgrades to keep this from happening. Won't be soon enough as far we're all concerned.

I am torn between thinking this is too off topic and answering you so that people are informed consumers. My compromise is to answer you and to pre-apologize to Steven58 or any other mod if it needs to be moved.

Beats are NOT good headphones at anything near MSRP. Given your statement, I am going to respectfully ask if you have owned any good headphones before. The beats (even the alleged studio ones) are great improvements over the normal mainstream junk, but are in my opinion (and many others) $100 headphone level at best. I personally put that at $60 to 80, but that is because my preference is not towards the low end frequencies.

Beats have bloated bass, recessed mids and shrill treble. Although the (alleged)software optimization applied with the Vigor may make Beats sound better than a regular phone, it is not a brand to aspire to own if you are searching for good sound.

I say this as I listen to Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto with a separate DAC and headphone amp and a pair of AKG K501's. I am by no means an expert, but I do know what I am talking about.

PS This studio moniker that Beats has is BS. Not real recording studio uses Beats. Good balanced headphones (much like the Sony MDR-V6) are used. At $80 or so, the Sony's blow any of the beats line out of the water.

PPS TO make this relevant to the GNexus thread, I am going to ask if we know if we have a sound cancelling mic? I heard rumor of one (or two), but forgot if it was actually confirmed.

Completely agree. However, if the "beats by dre technology" means SQ more comparable to dedicated MP3 players, I'm all for it.

Yeah.

Ok - here's the thing.

No arguing about headphones - it always turns into who is smarter, who hears better and who gets better deals.

If someone asks for advice, fine give it. If you don't like someone else's advice, thank them for the effort and then just give something positive in return or move to a more positive topic.

Great subject for a Lounge debate, or via PM between two buddies or if someone wants advice.

Lousy subject otherwise because then everyone get all, like someone is wrong, and then people get all, kinda hurt, and then mods get all, really moddy.

Cheers, thanks a lot. ;)

If i recall with the nexus s the exclusivity was closer to six months , the sprint version was five months and the att version was seven months after it was initially released announced on tmobile. depends on how patient you are if you want to wait or not. on Att you really dont have any other options for ics devices till next spring anyways imo

Srsly, tho, I wouldn't mind seeing a rousing Lounge thread on this whole sound topic. From the speaker-phone abilities to the amp/eq abilities of the headphone ports to the headphones and other accessories.

I see a lot of interest confirming that people are interested in storage to take advantage of that HD happening here for the screen with movies.

What about the sound?

Any cats here with some answers or questions, absolutely, please make a parallel thread or a Lounge thread.

(Again - not sending anyone to Siberia - suggesting that's too cool a topic to just be constrained to a speculations pre-release thread. :))

This is one of the big questions. And with Sprint maybe going to LTE (I say maybe despite reports because: Sprint, ok) how long to hop to Sprint if the radios don't change?

AT&T - I've been on that one, too. Who doesn't want their AT&T compadres to get a chance at this tech?

Don't do it! No matter what, don't jump to a carrier offering tiered data! No matter how much you want the phone! With the data usage that 4G LTE would make convenient, your bill would increase by 100 easily. Less if you don't do any streaming of videos or music or files from the cloud, but then what would be the point of getting a new phone?

If we speak with our dollars, maybe they'll listen. AT&T, when frustrated that it's difficult to increase their user base, may conclude that raising the price of unlimited by $10 to $20 would garner more new customers than the inexcusably lousy tiered price model does. This would hopefully force others to follow suit. We need to make them know that the tiered model does not work for us, even if it means we don't use data or have these nifty and expensive smart phones.
