Root pc wont recognize evo

I think a couple of things may be to turn on USB debugging and also make sure fastboot is unchecked.

I would just go down through the Rooting for Dummies thread again and make sure everything is followed. I'm assuming you know the Hboot and are using the correct Root method.
ie: Hboot 2.16 use Revolutionary, Hboot 2.10 or lower use Unrevoked.

Are you using the original USB cable or an aftermarket replacement? I have purchased an AM replacement and all it will do is charge. I have no access to the sdcard or phone through it. You might also try another USB port.

Nope nope and nope lol try disk, htc cable all the above thanks I really think something is broke I'm not new to rooting and such I have rooted about 15 EVO's since I was helped with my own but this thing you can't even look at the sd contents on the pc nothing I really think its a problem with the usb port thanks tho

Definitely sounds like the usb port in the phone is on its way out. If he has insurance, I would get it replaced then root the new one.

I also heard of some people having issue with the usb. seems like there is a pin issue. Did you try plugging your phone in and make sure its not a windows issue?

X I find that interesting that you bought an am cable and it will only charge. I have used both my old blackberry cable and my new htc cable and have had no issues with either one.

Something you may both want to try is to go to device manager and click on the htc and remove it then click action>scan for hardware changes. Sometimes windows has a brain fart and forgets how to do things even with the instructions. This will reboot your computer after plug the phone back in choose disk and see if it works.

If memory serves me correctly when rooting you want it to be in charge only mode anyways correct?

yeah this sucks but my evo has a loose usb port. i cant take it in as sprint wants to go through assurion to get my evo replaced. they will not fix it and i do not want to spend another$100 to get it replaced. i'm just trying to buy time until the galaxy nexus maybe or if there is word of a new evo for next year. hopefully my phone's usb port will not crap out on me until then.

I hear ya ocn i got the evo for 100 so i definitely dont want to pay full price for the replacement. If i got a replacement i would definitely get something with more RAM and ROM and is ROOTABLE :D

I have 2 original HTC cables that work flawlessly. I purchased a kit through amazon that had a wall charger, car charger, and data cable. The data cables do not work for anything except charging. I get USB errors on my pc when using them as well. My PC recognizes any phone I plug in when I use my HTC cable. The OEM cables that come with our phones are definitely better quality.

Yes, you want it in charge only.

I have everything needed to root on my laptop, recovery, superuser, ROM and so on. So when I got this phone and couldn't move the files because on the usb issue I saw it was charging so i just downloaded what I needed from this site thinking it might work but nope so that's when I posted this thread. O and btw after I tried hooking his phone up the first time and it didn't work nothing would download it kept saying connect usb storage or something like that I took his battery out pulled the sd card put it back and then it would work. Thanks everyone
