***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I get your reasoning, but what is it that this phone offers that beats current/upcoming phones besides Vanilla android and an unlocked bootloader? I think it would take more than a VZW campaign to sell the public on that...

By the way, my Blackberry has already rebooted 5 times this morning. C'mon Nexus.

720p HD screen by far will be the #1 selling point of this phone for the general public.

edit: Zero Shutter Lag would be a good seller too, if the VZW salespeople could explain it well.

I do want this phone to be as successful as possible, because it will let the phone manufacturers know what WE want. Sure the techies will be lining up to buy the GNex, but there are unfortunately not enough of us to drive demand to the point of opening the carrier's and manufacturer's eyes. We need the rest of the world to see what we see, because that is when the manufacturers REALLY take notice, and we will start getting the phones we really want.

This is very true. But I also think since the appearance of the first android phone to now even the general consumer is getting to be a little smarter about phone purchases and what they are buying. I do know though a lot of people will see the 8mp camera on the Razr and the 5 on the GNex and think the Razr is the best phone.

Sadly this is true. The biggest selling point for me is the zero shutter lag on the camera (3 young children). And yet because it is 5MP, people will scoff. Nothing can be done about this I am afraid, the damage had been done.

I love foibles. When I tried to sign up on the Verizon site using my VERIZON Droid X, the site wouldn't display right. After several attempts with different browsers, I finally found a place to enter my email. After hitting the Submit button, I was given a popup which seemed to want more information but had no text entry. I abandoned my attempt there but got a confirmation email soon after.

What's humorous to me is how this process didn't work on a mobile phone which Verizon sold me. Did nobody there consider people might be using their network with their equipment to sign up for GNex information?

This happened to me too - on a verizon iphone 4. I thought it was an iPhone thing, and thusly one more reason to dump this phone on my wife and get the GNex.

I agree with you, but by Q1 next year there should be a bunch of phones that meet or beat the Nexus on specs and have ICS, which just leaves vanilla, ICS now, and bootloader. Oh, and updates from Google...that's a good one. Even if this sells like hotcakes, makers and carriers are not going to conclude it's because of the points I mentioned.

What I'm trying to say is that manufacturers are going to give us the specs we crave, but there is not going to be a revelation to them that everyone wants a Nexus experience, regardless how well it sells. IMO.

Consider this: An overweight guy sitting in a single-wide trailer in a run down trailer park using a Gateway Laptop. He can't afford wireless so he moved his trailer in back of the Starbucks and is using theirs. He has beer bottles strewn everywhere and lots of ads from those give away escort services. He calls himself Hans Olo and pretends to be someone else. He probably had to use Google to look up how to spell depositions. If you look up the Illinois State Bar Association, they have no record of Hans Olo. I rest my case.

Thank you for making me almost snort coffee OUT my nose. It caught me off guard and I found this highly amusing.

The Exynos processor news makes me want to wait, but then again I don't at the same time. I might just end up selling this phone next year to make room for something new, but I guess only time will tell. If I keep waiting for something better I will be waiting forever to upgrade from this OG Droid.

Time to just splurge and satisfy my needs with the SGN.

It offers updates before anyone else. And beam.
But for the non techies and people who just want a phone with a data plan this one may not be what they are looking for. I know a lot of people who don't realize that their phones can come without all the bloat and even when I tell them it's possible they look nervous.

This is definitely a "niche market" phone, but I think manufacturers are finally starting to realize that this niche market exists, and is growing.

I agree. I have the advantage of having 5 lines on a family share, and three of those people don't want or need upgrades when they have them... so I fully intend to Galaxy Nexus it up, and if/when a Exynos, quad core, 5G, or whatever inevitibly appears in 2012, I'll be on that thread impatiently waiting too.

Ditto, except we only have three lines, but they are spaced apart perfectly. By that time, my husband's upgrade will be available (July) and I'll get that, and give him my Nexus.

But what if something crazy happens and you can't check this site the day it comes out?

Individually, each one of those packets looks EXACTLY like a correctly-spelled word in English.

But when you string them all together like that - it just doesn't make any sense to me. Is that like a foreign language? Romanian or something maybe??

Goooooooooooooood morning, Nexolians! :D

Put in red to quote for truth.

We live in exciting times and the makers are really stepping up their game on getting good improvements out. I think it helps to remember that the best phone is the one that's best for you at the time you need it.

Plus, it should have 3D, but hey - you know - next year's model. ;) :)

Just curious, do you really care if VZ markets this phone or not? They can dress RAZR up in a pink tutu and throw it a Quinceañera party if that makes them happy. All I want is the opportunity to buy it on this carrier. Looks like that is happening. I'm happy!

I hear ya'. For me it's not a "competition" of X device vs. Galaxy Nexus. The number of GNex's VZW sells isn't too important to me. I plan on running stock so dev support most likely won't be a concern of mine. The only real care I have about VZW's love for GNex is that they offer up quality accessories. You know RAZR will have some cool stuff.

Getting excited!

Please god no, I couldn't take the forum discussion, just imagine.

Samsung have released an HD SAMOLED 3D screen. However, you'll find that because it's pentile and is parallax the number of sub pixels gives an effective dpi of 94 which I think you'll find is less that the Nokia XYZ from 2002 ........

And honestly I might pay a bit more for a 1-year contract. Carriers need to adopt this practice.

Yeah, I 100% agree. Anything over a year on anything is like getting married.

Hey, carriers! Who do you think you are? I'm already married to a human being! How about a 1-year contract?

Plus that early termination fee is like alimony or something!

This thing is exclusive on Verizon. That's HUGE! Verizon will push this phone. You don't get exclusivity for the hell of it. Exclusivity is a really big selling point. So much so that I think this is their flagship not the razr.

All exclusivity means to me is the longer length of time it goes before a price drop. I hope Costco gets it pretty quick, maybe they will have a little better deal going.
